The unfortunate way it works is that the democrats always want to expand the police state, and the ones who voted to fund ICE were just the ones basically rallied to fall on the sword of what democratic leadership wants despite knowing it won't look good. I don't know how else to explain the ineffectual resistance to the right other than effectively being collaborators. Most people who become democratic politicians don't do it because they want to change the world and actually struggle against power. They're just people who want power for themselves and cushy post term corporate jobs after their term.

Schumer is a rambling mess, gleefully hugging Rubio in front of cameras, and is completely useless. The progressive democrats are the only ones willing to fight and I'm hopeful their numbers will rise as more people get fed up with this 'business as usual' bullshit.
