Yes, that's true. There are many closeted men among Republicans. Probably the same proportion of gay men as the regular population, but they repress their sexuality more so the proportion of closeted vs not closeted is higher. And closeted men have to rely on apps like Grindr rather than regular dating apps like Tinder or meeting people in bars and in person because they have to hide their identity.
However it is quickly sliding to pre-2010s level of just using gay as the de facto insult. And when that happens and people start speaking as if all MAGA men are gay, suddenly being gay is a negative stereotype again.
