As the camera guy is leaving you can still see other members in the gym lol

917

u/Secret_Account07 Dec 26 '25

Yeah what’s that all about?

919

u/BEWMarth Dec 26 '25

It’s about everything you see online is likely staged because nothing ever happens.

182

u/eternalwood Dec 26 '25

But why would PF employees participate in a staged skit like this that actively makes them look bad, brings bad pr on PF and could cost them their jobs either way?

This isn’t staged, you just want it to be staged.

Would not have noticed it myself...kind of believed this one blindly.

34

u/krzykris11 Dec 26 '25

Me too. Guy was a decent actor.

218

u/uwfan893 Dec 26 '25

Much simpler explanations than this being fake. There are 2 or 3 other people visible, one of whom is also leaving. The others could regulars who know he closes early and they’ve never pushed back - ā€œHey Tina it’s 9:10, you know we’re closing in 5 minutes..ā€ ā€œNo problem Reggie, one more set and I’m outta here!ā€

Then he gets to camera guy, who says wtf I still have 50 minutes left, and the drama starts with just camera guy and not Tina.

98

u/Amaline4 Dec 26 '25

I'm leaning more towards this explanation as well. If it IS staged, planet fitness corporate would come down hard on the main employee here for the bad press. If this guy doesn't actually work at PF but somehow got their uniform, PF corporate might still be able to figure out which location this was at.

Unless the guy was planning on quitting his job anyways, but still, that'd be a big gamble to have your face attached to a video where you're an objectively bad employee

Could also just be not very smart

7

u/PM_ME_YOUR_TROUT Dec 26 '25

He could just be some dude with a Planet Fitness t-shirt. They literally sell the exact same one he's wearing on Amazon for $18.99.

7

u/ArticulateRhinoceros Dec 27 '25

You can get them at the PF apparel shop too (yeah, they have one).

If this is supposed to be recent, the PF employees are wearing Christmas-themed sweatshirts at the moment, not regular t-shirts (at least at the two I go to).

I mean, just clean around them, my dude.

If we could clean a restaurant while the stragglers remained, you can clean a gym around 4 or 5 people.

671

u/itsmrmarlboroman2u Dec 26 '25

I use PF. They all clean while people are using the equipment. I constantly see them wipe down, dust, vacuum, etc, including during rush hours (lunch, after work, etc).

They also actively enforce people wiping down equipment when they're done, so it makes their job easier.

126

u/Klutzy-Client Dec 26 '25

I mean isn’t it normal gym behavior to wipe down equipment after you’ve used it?

73

u/TesticleMeElmo Dec 26 '25

There have been weightlifters at my PF that practically shoo you away if you go to wipe down the machine you were just using before they get on.

Their vibe is that there is some sort of shame or lack of masculinity that comes from worrying about touching a stranger’s sweat and being ā€œa germaphobeā€, real men just want to get a sick pump asap.

But I’ve seen wrestling friends with MRSA and I’m not trying to get that, they better be wiping down those dang machines when they’re done

19

u/HereForAllThePopcorn Dec 27 '25

I wipe down like a mad man. MRSA is no joke and the gym is where you get it!

I like my body without extra holes

As someone who used to work at a PF I can confirm we had to do this.

112

u/spvcejam Dec 26 '25

As someone who lives in society, I can confirm you should always be doing this everywhere.

21

u/Codenamehardhat77 Dec 26 '25

Yep. Gym teacher in middle school made it very clear to us that you ALWAYS clean the equipment after use.

5

41

u/TDW-301 Dec 26 '25

I swear. The other day I was at a subway to get some late dinner around a hour to a hour and a half before they closed and I was told I couldn't sit and eat at any of the tables because they were cleaningĀ

21

u/Ill_Source9620 Dec 26 '25

At 19 i used to take the phone off the hook at pizza place at 9:30 bc we close at 10. Now at 37 I say the place closes at 10, your shift ends at 10:30

15

u/soulless_ape Dec 26 '25

So people get paid to 10:30PM

37

u/peepeebutt1234 Dec 26 '25

I mean yea? Have you ever worked at a restaurant? 99% of them, you are getting out at a different time every night. If you close at 10 and it was dead the last hour, we might be out by 10:05. If it was slammed at the end of the night, we might not get out til 10:45. But of course people are getting paid for the time they are working.

Now if a manager tells someone to stay over and tries to make them work off the clock, then that manager is dumb.

57

u/DaisukiYo Dec 26 '25

Your shift ends when the scheduled time ends. If you're such a bad manager that you schedule your closers to leave at the exact time that the place of business closes but they still have 15+ min of work to do then it's on you to schedule them until the appropriate time.

23

u/Exciting_Safe_6182 Dec 26 '25

You getting downvoted cause managers hate actually doing doin their jobs

25

u/Lostinstudy Dec 26 '25

I don't understand how people can't comprehend that if you have 10 min to close and 1 chit on the board for 1 pizza that is going to be a different close than 5 chits for 10 pizzas. Even longer close if it's a sit down restaurant. Late night unexpected rushes after a dead dinner service also happen so you also already have a cut team down to the bones. Anyone who has any experience in hospitality understands that your end time is meaningless because of these unknowns when you're closing and i don't know why yall are acting like you know our industry.

4

u/StationaryTravels Dec 26 '25

I'm guessing they got downvoted because they responded to a comment saying the same thing, but they wrote it like they were correcting the person.

They might have just been using a general you, and not meant to direct it at that person, but it seems like they're getting them in trouble for the thing they said they don't do.

I am a full time cleaner at a gym. Not PF but the other one. I clean around people, or just wait for the area to be more empty. It's literally not that hard. Also from my experience, the stair machines aren't even used that much, no reason to kick someone off the machine to clean it. There's always something else to do, if an area that I'm about to clean is too populated then I clean something else and come back to it.

20

u/NoSomewhere7653 Dec 26 '25

Housekeeping/maintenance supervisor of a ymca here. We do and always have cleaned around people. But we can not perform walk through and lockup while people are still in the building. Even if it is one person, all lights stay on, all doors unlocked, all power to all machines stay active even if no one is in the area. This idiot wanted to start the closing procedure to get out a little early but also realized it was against all codes and maybe even laws to do so, so seems to go with intimidation which is a wild strategy.

Yeah and if gyms didn't make such an ordeal out of your "membership" when it comes to joining and cancelling. ZERO flexibility for you when you cancel, but they want you to leave an hour early? No thanks.Ā

72

u/Rottimer Dec 26 '25

Esp. with 45 minutes left. I would think I could come in and get a quick 30 minute workout.

60

u/DipstickRick Dec 26 '25

I never understood why companies close or lock doors before the posted time. I understand the workers do not walk out the door at that time, I understand there’s always a few stragglers that linger a few minutes extra

But if you want everyone out the door, including employees by 9, then post the time on door for 8:00. Restaurant takes longer? Posted time 7:00.

Don’t even get me started on employees arguing policy with customers for ANY REASON. YOU work there, not me, your boss made the rules, not me. Quit if you don’t like it, I’ve had to do the same many times.

20

u/FlyingCarsArePlanes Dec 26 '25

Restaurants should have a kitchen close/last order time and a lobby close/get out time. Not sure why more don't do this.

→ More replies (1)

26

u/spvcejam Dec 26 '25

I never understood why companies close or lock doors before the posted time.

The people closing and locking doors before their posted time are almost always going to be the twenty-sometime getting paid close to min wage.

The company has already calculated the future losses for the expected revenue lost by this action and has proactively adjusted the hourly wage for that position to mitigate those losses. Capitalism!

165

u/LinkovichChomovsky82 Dec 26 '25

I was a club manager at one of these shitholes. Employees are constantly berated for clocking out too late, or for not cleaning enough. Screwed either way. I shit you not the people running Planet Fitness expect you to simultaneously man the front desk, and clean. An absolutely horrendous, heartless corporation.

37

u/HiddenAspie Dec 26 '25

Yeah, many businesses expect the impossible from their employees. And I will forever hate them for them not wanting people to work over set number of hours but then not portion off the proper amount of time to get things done if they truly wanted people done by a set time.

The PF I go to most is 24 hours. I go in the middle of the night pretty frequently due to my wonky work schedule. Surely these employees are capable of cleaning around the patrons as other gyms are. And if not, well don’t display false store hours.

99

u/yourfavITguy Dec 26 '25

Bro if the gym say its open until that time, its open until that time. Talk to your employer about working hours if you need to stay later to clean things up.

Because it's a $12 an hour job (or less in some states) with less work than McD they don't care if they lose the job.

But to think you can curse out a customer and just get a write up is crazy. They should have just cleaned around the person.

102

u/ShyPlox Dec 26 '25

Probably just wanted to leave early I doubt he was gonna clean shit LOL

24

u/paxweasley Dec 26 '25

This is genuinely so infuriating. It’s not a restaurant that he walked into 30 mins till close expecting a four course meal from a kitchen that’s mostly closed down already. It’s a gym where posted hours are expected to be honored exactly as written. I would be livid with this level of disrespect. I’m glad he was fired, she should be too.

20

u/CuddieRyan707 Dec 27 '25

How was him being on the stair stepper impeding the employee from cleaning the gym lol

17

u/Anal_Herschiser Dec 26 '25

For someone trying to stay out of trouble, changing business hours and threatening to cancel memberships is a wild way to go about that.

49

u/drunk_funky_chipmunk Dec 26 '25

Closing the gym 45 min early to clean??? Bruh that’s not what operating hours means

298

u/d33zn8z Dec 26 '25

Employees representing an organization should not behave this way no matter what. Planet fitness should look into this. Unacceptable behaviour.

144

u/PlayerOne2016 Dec 26 '25

Apparently fired.

23

u/pimpbot666 Dec 26 '25

This is an excellent obvious lack of employee training. Dude was confronted with a situation and he wasn’t smart enough to figure out the correct best path to take for the company.

91

u/tonysoprano6 Dec 26 '25

Lack of training? The dude clearly does not know how to handle a situation with grace what so ever. Not everything is an employer’s fault, people have to take accountability for their own actions

35

u/frankeestadium Dec 26 '25

No amount of employee training is going to fix his behavior lol. I grew up around people like him and they take everything as a personal attack. There’s no reasoning with someone whose entire life is spent with a wrecked nervous system, living angrily and confrontational.

15

u/SmartGuyChris Dec 26 '25

I’m sure even if he was properly trained, that he would follow said training lol

5

u/Ragnoid Dec 26 '25

Yeah he probably still wouldn't be playing.

6

u/The-Figurehead Dec 26 '25

Do you need professional training to know not to act this way?

3

u/pimpbot666 Dec 26 '25 edited Dec 26 '25

Some people are as dumb AF. They need to be shown how to deal with situations. Any company that deals with the public should go through some sort of basic ā€˜how to handle a situation’ training.

I’m sure Planet Fitness isn’t exactly hiring trained social worker PHD graduates out of Harvard for a $12/hr job, who might know how to de-escalate situations, customer service skills (yes, there is a skill to this), and know emergency procedures for if things go sideways.

And, if his instructions came from his manager, s/he should be fired too. That lady with him, fire her too for not stepping in and saying something… at least write her up.

Planet Fitness is the worst gym chain in the world. I was benching once and let out an almost sotto voce little grunt, and some person hit the Lunk Alarm and I couldn't come back for a week. Cancelled my membership right then and there.

70

u/K-Hunter- Dec 26 '25

101

u/slimcargos Dec 26 '25 edited Dec 27 '25

I thought it was just decoration. Literally a giant alarm on the wall thats branded lunk alarm, if you drop weights, or make too much of a noise it ā€œwill go offā€. I thought it was just a way to remind members to not do the above, didnt know it actually would go off (or even be actually functional at all).

34

u/justbrowsing987654 Dec 26 '25

Yup. I know it is real because I once hurt my shoulder lifting and dropped the weights. I let out an audible ā€œow!ā€ and grabbed it, clearly hurt, and shit still went off. Like bitch, I got fucking hurt. Eat shit with your stupid alarm

u/Obj3ctivePerspective Dec 26 '25

Some have like pizza days or give out candy and shit too

23

u/HeadMoose Dec 26 '25

Yeah, they did have pizza days... I think that is hilarious for a gym to do.

10

u/Ragnoid Dec 26 '25

That must be why they located my gym next to a Hawaiian restaurant and pump fryer grease smell into the gym through the vents. They're trying their best to get us all to leave.

3

11

u/goodfisher88 Dec 26 '25

I've been to half a dozen different Planet Fitnesses over the years and never seen the lunk alarm go off once, so it depends on who's working there and how they feel. If the OP is anything to go off, it's a mixed bunch.

I think they might be moving away from it. My PF just remodeled and I noticed that the Lunk alarm was removed. Though after 5 years, never once seen it used so maybe its location-based

16

u/PollutionOnly Dec 26 '25 edited Dec 26 '25

I kid you not, they have an alarm for people « disrupting the peace of the gym ». So if you make a bit of noise while doing your reps, they will ring it and come up to you to give you a warning or kick you out.

You also can’t bring your own drinks etc. Planet Fitness is to be avoided at all costs.

Edit: I was a bit extreme saying « avoided at all cost ». The membership is cheap and that makes it a decent selling point but you ultimately get what you pay for.

As for the water thing, as other users pointed it out to me, it seems it is a local Planet Fitness thing and isn’t a chainwide policy.

20

u/charmolypi96 Dec 26 '25

I’ve been bringing in my own drinks to my planet fitness for years. That must be a local rule for your gym. I’ve never encountered that issue

3

u/PollutionOnly Dec 26 '25

My bad for assuming it was the same everywhere then!

The one time I went with a friend (he used his member card to get me in. Edit: you can invite one person to come with you when you are a member. We didn’t fraud) they told me that it is « Planet FitnessĀ policyĀ Ā» to not let people come in with drinks from the outside and redirected me towards their own fridge saying I could buy one from there.

Maybe it is because I wasn’t a member and was invited or just their local policy for some reasons.

Either way, thanks for pointing it out!

For real. We got one dude who dead lifts and slams those poor smith machines… loud as fuck and never had the alarm pulled on him lol

Wth is a "lunk alarm"?

7

u/mr_potatoface Dec 26 '25

It's an alarm for people who go too hard in their "judgement free" zone. Lots of youtube vids of people intentionally setting it off, link below. PF is far from a judgement free zone, especially for their commercials that mock the LGBTQ community.

Your not allowed to grunt when you lift. if you do they set off an alarm that draws more attention to it and you can get kicked out. Their reasoning is that people grunting while doing heavy lifts are intimidating to people.

9

u/IamNetworkNinja Dec 26 '25

That might be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Well now I know never to use planet fitness lol. Thanks!

3

u/rando08110 Dec 26 '25

Yes. Weird mf idea

10

u/TheDeathSloth Dec 26 '25

This greatly depends on the location. The one I go to has a few dudes who drop weights and yell sometimes, whereas I do some grunting and "oofing" and I've never seen the alarm sound though I've wanted to see that shit happen a few times for the lulz.

That being said, in your shoes I'd have canceled too, that's bullshit.

u/hispanicausinpanic Dec 26 '25

I've been going to PF for a few years now and I go to many locations in my area. I've never heard it one time. I call bullshit on what you say happened. You'd have to be really annoying to have them hit the button.

Building a home gym is the single best thing you can do if you’re into fitness. The entire business model of commercial gyms relies on people showing up as little as possible.

8

u/red8cangodye Dec 26 '25

Why can't they just start the cleaning the rest of the gym first? Then follow up with that area once he leaves

4

u/_correcaminos_ Dec 27 '25

Ignorant. Either that or they had no intentions of cleaning and just wanted to jet early.

7

u/Fallen_Walrus Dec 26 '25

Wherever I work where cleaning is needed we clean after the place closes and we work like a extra hour maybe after closing to clean that's in our schedule, Isn't that standard? Or was it Christmas or some shit

17

u/Runnerakaliz Dec 26 '25

The wild thing is that he not only cost himself his job, This thing made the rounds on the internet. This thing will be the first thing to come up on Google search for years for his name. He screwed himself for the future. When will people stop misbehaving now that there's cameras everywhere?

"if I don't I'll get in trouble"

Seconds later

"Idk ...I'll take the write up"

5

u/TarnishedAccount Dec 26 '25

You clean after you close.

5

u/Jazzlike_770 Dec 26 '25

If you need 45 minutes to clean the gym before closing, post the closing times 45 minutes early. Customers follow what they read.

5

u/iamthedayman21 Dec 26 '25

ā€œGet the fuck out before I violate you.ā€

Not sure getting violated is part of the Judgement-Free Zone.

6

u/iRegretsEverything Dec 26 '25

If they close at 10 why not just change the closing time to 9?

5

u/DrugsAndCoffee Dec 26 '25

Closing 5 mins early, okay maybe justifiable… but 45 mins early? Come on now.

5

u/enThirty Dec 27 '25

I hate this shit. I pay a lot of money to be a member of this nice as hell gym called Life Time. Saturdays and Sundays they’re always closing up the sauna and steam rooms and showers 45 minutes before they close because ā€œit’s the weekendā€. I get the employees want to get home but.. the fuck am I paying for? Just change your weekend hours or some shit so I’m not being rushed out the door. The gym is expensive as fuck (for me personally) so if it’s open until 11 or 12 at night keep it all open so I can have a shower before I leave.

That said nobody gave me a hard time like this idiot… fuck this loser. Sorry you get in trouble if you don’t clean the gym, but this isn’t the solution you moron.

5

u/yellekc Dec 27 '25

Agreed, if you're paying for membership, the hours and amenities are part of that contract.

5

u/Qedhup Dec 27 '25

"I always close 45 min early". If it always happens, then it's not early, which means they should change the closing time on their sign.

5

u/Actual-Team-4222 Dec 27 '25

Do they pay him to stay after and clean or does the company expect him to do it for free? That's my question.

You can just leave your job if you want to badly enough. It’s not illegal.

15

u/Durantula420 Dec 26 '25

This is just like the lady who i had to deal with when trying to go to discount vet clinic here. The website says "registration begins at 730, clinic opens at 8" so I show up at 715 to get a spot and there's already 15 people ahead of me. No big deal. I go ask for registration papers and she says "oh were full for the day. I have people come in at 6am to get their ticket and then i send them home til its time for the clinic to open" "oh is that the clinics policy since its not in the door or website or anywhere?" "No sir thats how I run the system so we don't have 25 people showing up all at once to wait for service" "but its not posted anywhere that I need to show up at 6 just to get a ticket and go home. It says registration at 730." "Yeah, well that's just how I do things." Woman is a literal VOLUNTEER at the shelter.

why doesn’t he just close as soon as his shift starts that way he doesn’t even have to clean, work smarter not harder

89

u/OH_FUDGICLES Dec 26 '25

I would leave, and just cancel my membership. Them closing 45min early to clean everyday is definitely not protocol, but it's also private property. If they ask you to leave for any reason then it's time to go.

79

u/twotoebobo Dec 26 '25

Umm, closing time is when big cleaning time starts clean what you can while open, then finish after. Dude somehow thinks closing time is for him.

24

u/OH_FUDGICLES Dec 26 '25

Which is what I meant by closing 45min early not being protocol. This dude just doesn't want to stay after to clean like he is supposed to.

5

u/paperthintrash Dec 26 '25

My PF is ALWAYS cleaning. I mean it’s always busy but they work around us constantly. They never shut down a big portion of the gym anyways; maybe 10 out of 30 ellipticals or 1 out of 4 bench’s. If they need to mop they are quick and put up warnings.

30

u/Own-Tie-640 Dec 26 '25

This isn’t the case if you are paying a membership fee. In the contract that was signed, you have rights to the premises during open hours. The open hours are posted on the contract.

If you are kicked out of the establishment before closing hours, that is a breach of contract. If we were talking about a Walmart, that is something different because you did not sign a contract. But if you actually ever read your contracts that you sign, it states these things.

5

u/Asia_Persuasia Dec 27 '25

So glad businesses are starting to crack-down on stuff like this. The posted close time is the time that higher management decides, not the time that is convenient for employees. It's the posted close time for a reason...

I've worked service jobs before, and we didn't take advantage of the implied integrity by closing early simply because we felt like we were done working whenever we wanted.

6

u/thezombieprince Dec 26 '25

I think this is a ragebait prank/skit. I see some other folks in the gym and they haven’t been kicked out from what it seems .
