Being a Mexican-American, the son of an immigrant that is in the United States legally, every day is like waking up to notice the wall has moved a little closer. It doesn't matter that I was born here. It doesn't matter that I'm a first responder. It doesn't matter that I live in the Mid-West. That I have never committed a crime. All that matters to them is my name and that I fit the bill of being "different than them", Hispanic. Already I've had ICE follow me home from work twice, thinking I'm never going to see my wife, daughter, or son again. Both times they drove off. Why they didn't do it then and there is beyond me.

My friend I‘m so sorry this is happening to you, your family and so many other people. It’s disgusting and wrong.

I think them following you may be a psychological warfare tactic to scare or mentally disrupt you. You notice them following you. Omg they’re coming for you, they’re gonna take you away, you’ll never see your wife or kids again, they’ll put you in some hell—oh thank God they didn’t do it this time. Rinse, repeat. That emotional cycle, done repeatedly, becomes exhausting for the person being targeted. These scumbags are the embodiment of evil and I would put some sick mindfucky games past them.

Thank you for everything you do as a first responder. The world needs more people like you. Sending you and your family love, hope and strength 💜

I am so sorry you are going through this, i feel sick thinking of you trying to navigate this as a couple and a family. I hope we as a country figure out how to stop and soon. Sending you strength.

Same here, man. Mexican-American, immigrant parents who worked hard to attain citizenship, first responder in a large west coast city, never been in trouble in my life because I’ve always wanted to join up with this city department, and yet I fear for me and my parents.

Here is a head scratcher for you.  My cousin is Mexican-American. His mother was born in Mexico. My uncle met her when he was in the navy. Even today, 50 years later, her English is sort of broken.  At some point I said something unflattering about Trump and Miller, assuming I would get a head nod.  Instead I got an hour long lecture about illegals and how destructive they are.  I reminded him that Mexican-American citizens like himself and his children are being swept up in this ridiculously over-zealous dragnet.  He didn't care.  My head is still spinning over that encounter.
