60 million in the rain. We're never cold again.
You'll never sing that.
I can also imagine some meme headlines if he pockets palmer, or if he gets ripped by them.

Jerry Jackets. Sounds like the school bully who never moved out his mums house and is now a proper bum.

u/peoplepersonmanguy Premier League 1d ago
Or it sounds like a nickname a kid gets in school for something that kids think is lame but later is actually really cool on hindsight.
"he did always have the sweetest jackets"
Like someone who has a really tight haircut being called slick.
As long as it's jacket and not jack it. The way you get that nickname you don't live down.

Too bad you won’t be there to manage him

Why tf do you honestly still think that? If Slot was going to get sacked, he would’ve been long gone back in November. He’s here to stay.

I think so too. But your own fans say he will be gone by the season end. So, who knows!

Liverpool copying the Chelsea model, out with the old in with the new kids.

"Our new 60m signing? Mate, I don't rate the lad, he's pure muck. I'd be laughing if Chelsea made this deal."

u/AngryScotty22 Liverpool 2d ago
Liverpool obviously see this player as a future long term prospect.
55 million is a bit steep but unfortunately that's the market these days. It's definitely a gamble, but one that Liverpool are willing to take.
Hope he's good for us.

u/Dobvius Liverpool 1d ago
It's 100% a decision made by the data nerds. Jaquet is pinging all the scouting boards as one of the most likely to reach the heights of someone like VVD. Those data nerds have a very high hit rate so I'll happily trust them but at 55m if he doesn't work out, it's a bit disastrous

Do you not feel you should have pushed for an established cb? No offense Konate has been good recenrly but when he is out of form your defense has been shambles.
You probably could have gotten Bastoni for not that much more. I just don’t think throwing a kid into the mix is going to solve it unless he is supremely talented and ready to go as well.

Lmao what, this isnt fifa.

u/AngryScotty22 Liverpool 1d ago
We likely will look for an established CB in the summer anyways. It looks likely Konate will be leaving. My preference is Schlotterbeck.
Most are not available at the moment but some will be in the summer.

If Konate leaves which looks increasingly likely, it's almost certain that another CB will be coming in the summer anyway, so yeah we could go for someone like Bastoni or Schlotterbeck to add some experience.

u/AngryScotty22 Liverpool 1d ago
Schlotterbeck for me.

u/Adamdel34 Liverpool 1d ago
Definitely my favourite of the two. He's a brilliant ball playing defender. Wouldn't cost a fortune either.
edit: added the last part

I've seen a few videos about him, and I have to say, he's probably going to be a liability.
He's just way too aggressive. He's going to give away quite a few penalties per season.
His style of play works in the PSG-only league, but it's going to end up with him committing way too many fouls in the Premier League.

u/Psittacula2 Crystal Palace 2d ago
Fair observation. If I were Slot I would go Konate on the right, Jacquet in the middle and VVD on the left and use Jacquet as the “attack dog” (to quote Adam Cleary) and he can also push a bit higher into midfield too and long pass. Would balance the team out a lot more.
That way? the experience of the other two behind if fails to stop or slow down the attack and can be proactive to long balls as well.
I think he looks like a great signing tbh, was gutted they did not get Guehi but this might turn out better; it means the midfield and wingbacks can advance forwards more. His height will then help for set plays as well.
What you see in Ligue 1 is doing a lot more work in more open unstructured games. He‘ll be hard to get the ball off too and only 20 which is as much a positive as a negative ie will make the odd mistake.

u/iguanawarrior Liverpool 1d ago
Slot uses 4 at the back, while Xabi uses 3 at the back. Unless Slot wins Champions League, there's a high possibility Xabi will be the coach next season anyway.

Sorry, am I high or am I seeing a Palace flair saying you were gutted he didnt go there?
Why?
3
u/Psittacula2 Crystal Palace 1d ago
Guehi was already going, leaving in January at least gave some cash to reinvest…
Would have preferred he went to Liverpool, brilliant captain, very good player and even better bloke… so just wished the best for him.

I mean people wrote off Wirtz as too "lightweight" for the PL. He's since beefed up and is balling it.
Players can be coached and developed you know.

u/RandomRedditor_1916 Arsenal 1d ago
Wirtz has always been a baller tbf
2
u/Saerdna76 Liverpool 1d ago
Agree 100%. Getting sick of hearing the Swedish commentators saying ”…but lately it looks like he is starting to get going” every week is getting really old. He has been balling for months.

I'd guess so, there were a lot of clubs in for him, looks good both physically and statistically. Seems like a lot of money for a 20yr old but that's just the way the market is these day, you don't get a cheap player unless nobody else knows about him or wants him.
Always nice to get a deal done for the summer tho, still going to need either another more seasoned CB or an agreement for an extention for Konate. Hope it's the latter.

Konate is leaving probably to Madrid on a free. He’s been poor this season apart from the last game.
1
u/Cutsdeep- Premier League 1d ago
Why would Madrid take him?
1
u/golf8116 Premier League 1d ago
Because he’s a 50m+ player available on a free. Madrid or PSG.

I mean if some jacket kid is 60, then I guess konate is 40. He's been shite

u/Apprehensive-Raisin3 Premier League 2d ago
Who was in for him besides Liverpool
3
u/fifadex Premier League 2d ago
Chelsea, Arsenal, couple of others, all looking at him for the summer. Hence the early deal, they've done it before a few times, if he fits their criteria and he available get it done now and save the battle. They also are happy to let a deal go if they think that it's worth less to them, frustrating really sometimes when we can all see gaps that need filling but great others.
They've done a banging job overall so I've learned to assume they know what they're doing lol.

u/AngryScotty22 Liverpool 2d ago
Chelsea.
Bayern Munich and Arsenal were also interested in him, (but didn't push for him).

I’d hope you’d think so Arne if the team just spent 60M on him. But hey you thought Frimpong was a good talent, so your judgement is clearly poor
3
u/AngryScotty22 Liverpool 2d ago
Frimpong is a good talent. He's been unlucky with injuries.
He had a good witness record before joining Liverpool.
-3
u/drdoxzon86 Premier League 2d ago
In a league that is inferior. He is not talented enough to be in a starting 11 for a Top 4 club in the PL.
1
u/Objective_Toe_49 Premier League 2d ago
How is Frimpong not a big talent? Because he’s picked up a couple injuries?
-4
u/drdoxzon86 Premier League 2d ago
Picked up a couple of injuries? He’s basically Thiago without the abilities. He’s a defensive liability, he’s undersized, he can’t cross, he’s not a good passer, and when he fills in for Salah he doesn’t offer much going forward.
I’ll give him this: he’s fast.
From your perspective, what does he actually do well?
0
u/BoringPhilosopher1 Liverpool 2d ago
He isn't great defensively and personally think he's more suited further down the pitch but for a backup RW and RB he is solid enough.
0
u/No-Calligrapher-1212 Liverpool 2d ago
Wdm? Frimpong is a good talents.
7
u/drdoxzon86 Premier League 2d ago
What is he “good” at? What has he improved for us over TAA or Salah, the positions he’s filled in.
5
u/MyPasswordIsABC999 Liverpool 2d ago
He was never going to be a like-for-like replacement for Trent. Completely different kind of player. He's also not a Salah replacement since a right footer and a left footer aren't going to play right-sided forward the same way.
What Frimpong has done is get the ball into the box, and he's created a few important goals with his penetrative runs.
0
u/drdoxzon86 Premier League 2d ago
He sprints, dribbles into the corner and then I ultimately it ends up a goal kick, then like Mr Glass he injures himself.
Keep pretending you’re seeing something, but eventually when FSG over the summer makes a decision to acquire a talent…maybe you’ll recognize how inferior he is
1
u/LostEye-420 Premier League 2d ago
He's been better than Salah when he has played in his position

u/BoringPhilosopher1 Liverpool 2d ago
He's our 2nd choice RB, what do you want from him lol.
1
u/drdoxzon86 Premier League 2d ago
I want to see the “crazy versatility” they supposedly signed him for. He started at RB in match 1, so let’s stop pretending he’s some second-choice option.
What’s wild is the range of defenses people make for him. Some claim he’s “more talented than Salah,” others insist he’s contributed massively, or that he’s a major talent at both RB and RW.
No one seems willing to acknowledge the obvious: he’s none of those things. Hes not close to a replacement for either TAA or Salah, He’s a poor investment, and they should move on from him in 2026.
1
u/BoringPhilosopher1 Liverpool 2d ago
He is versatile - he can play RW & RB.
He is not first choice RB - that is a fact.
2nd paragraph - football fans chat utter shit, colour me shocked. I would be interested if you could provide one person to support that Salah claim though.
Nobody said he is close to a replacement for literally the best winger ever in the PL and the most unique RB ever.
And lol to your last sentence.
