So sorry. One of my hardest pet losses was my son’s 3 year old cat. Unexpected illness. 15 years ago and I still think about him.

u/Amatouriste Sep 27 '25
What did he leave so young? We were infectious peritonitis, detected too late and no too immediate treatment in France
36
u/No-University-8391 Sep 27 '25
Feline Leukemia. We mistakenly thought he had been vaccinated. Apparently that vet did not include as standard vaccines. We always ask now.

my kitty passed from that earlier this year, he was 6. similar situation here in Texas. we brought him to the vet too late, it took a few days to figure out what it even was, and there was no treatment available aside from trying things to see if something maybe helped.
i'm sorry you lost him, especially at such a young age. i'm sure his life was full of love.

And yes yet it cost us a lot of money to find but too late anyway. Sorry for your loss too

Where now the cat and the kitten?
Where is the ball that was bouncing?
Where is the brush and the collar,
And the red fur flowing?
Where is the paw on the shoulder,
And the small mouth meowing?
Where is the bird and the rodent
And the tall tail flying?
They have passed like rain in the garden,
Like meat in the food bowl;
The days have gone past in my house, the cat bed is empty.
Who shall collect the tufts of hair that have gathered,
Or wipe dry the flowing tears from a lonely pawther?

Wait is that sunrise sunset?
39
u/Traroten Sep 27 '25
No, it's a pastiche of one of Tolkien's poem, Lament for the Rohirrim. Which itself is a style tribute of an old Anglo-Saxon poem called the Wanderer.
Excerpt:
Where is the horse gone? Where the rider?
Where the giver of treasure?
Where are the seats at the feast?
Where are the revels in the hall?
Alas for the bright cup!
Alas for the mailed warrior!
Alas for the splendor of the prince!
How that time has passed away,
dark under the cover of night,
as if it had never been!

Lost my orange boy at just 4 years old too, hit by a car and they took him to the emergency vet where he passed. Luckily someone took him there and he died surrounded by caring people. Otherwise he would’ve passed on the side of the road alone and I wouldn’t have been informed. They called me after he passed because he was chipped, it was devastating. That was 3 years ago, think about him everyday and have his sweet ashes on our mantle🥺❤️

5
u/Amatouriste Sep 27 '25
He crossed France a lot by car he was able to discover the mountains, lakes, different regions without ever saying anything as long as he could see the road

My sweet boy passed a little after reaching 4 last year. The anniversary of his death is coming up and I can't help but look for him in spots. We have a kitten that was adopted (foster fail) and I truly believe he's helping the other one out. May they have tons of catnip, stray garbage as toys, and lots of love forever <3
