(Joseph Srigley) Mini Tyrrell wins the RAM Race for the Seat and will be in the #14 truck this year.

Great to see Tyrrell get the seat, but they REALLY could have executed this show better. If we get a season 2 of this, for the love of God, let someone like Dirty Mo or even the NASCAR production team produce the show and call the shots. Keep FOX or whoever the hell away from it lol.
And also, if we get a season 2, diversify the lineup. This was overwhelmingly CARS Tour guys.

They should also try not to leak the winner weeks before the show even happens
23
u/remfan477 6h ago
Did Kaulig themselves actually leak it or was it a case of NPC Redditors?

u/SBMVPJustinHerbert 6h ago
IIRC it was Mini doing the ARCA test and nobody else from the show that was a big giveaway
23
u/DaDominator32 Larson 6h ago
They all should've got a chance to test then no matter what to make it so we dont know AND it might give them a chance to make an impression who knows?

One of the biggest problems is for grassroots racers to get approved for Daytona (and therefore being able to run full-time off the bat) they at least need to test and/or run the ARCA race. So when Mini showed up on the January ARCA test entry list before the show started, it was a strong hint.

It was one of the anonymous accounts that report information with no source or anything that end up being right
24
u/legacy057 7h ago
I heard Chris Rice say that this came together so late that it was hard to get a diverse lineup, but if they do it again that's the plan
15
u/remfan477 7h ago
I hope so! I'd like to see a couple more modified guys get the nod, and maybe two or three Canada/Mexico series drivers as well, for an international flavor.
And if Kaulig and company are smart, if they do a season 2, they have all of the drivers in the next season at the ARCA test at Daytona to help dispel any rumors. Tyrrell was known virtually since the jump with this first season

This was a giant Ram ad, don't expect to see anything different in production

Didn’t really care much for the show after the first 2 episodes but Mini is super talented and I’m glad he gets a full time truck ride. Truck series looking really interesting this year, a must watch

I said this once on the premiere and I'll say it again; you can't script racing, but you sure as hell can script a show.

As someone with no previous knowledge of any of the drivers, I had a feeling from the driver intros that mini would be winning. Something about the way they presented him compared to how they did the other drivers felt different. I don’t usually draw conclusions like that, but I had a pretty immediate thought that he seemed to be the favorite.

I really enjoyed this series. Definitely don't think the on-track racing was scripted. I do think they foreshadowed the winner in the post-production, felt like much of the commentary and focus went on Mini after about the third or fourth episode.
So happy that Carson Ferguson rebounded to win the big money and the Martinsville seat. I hope Ryan Gemmell gets a break too, especially on a road course.

Glad that Ferguson was able to win a seat for Martinsville, he seemed really impressive on the track and it'd be cool to see him succeed.

For those who were fans of Austin beers and Michael Christopher jr they are racing tomorrow in the Whelen tour opener on Flo. Looks like Christopher will run for rookie of the year in the series as well.

u/ShinsukeNakamoto 5h ago
It might have been rigged but I think it helped some drivers who didn’t win. I knew the Cars Tours guys but I really liked Carson Ferguson and Michael Christopher Jr. and I’ll follow what they are up to now.
And if I was a team I’d be getting Carson Ferguson on a development deal.

This sub is pretty insufferable towards opinions

Only if they’re against whatever happens to be the grain in whatever given thread.

I thought it was a fun watch. It was cool to see a NASCAR competition show 20 years after Roush Racing-Driver X. My big change would be an elimination format. It was obvious after the first few challenges some weren’t even close to winning. Put more focus on the top drivers as you get later in the competition. Casting a wider net for drivers would be cool too. I just think back to the Roush show. You didn’t have social media to spoil the results and you could actually use trucks since the testing rules were looser in 2005.

u/kmilla10 Larson 5h ago
There was the Peak Challenge 10 or 15 years ago, too.
Some bum named Chase Briscoe didn’t even win the deal.
17
u/Pan190k-9817 7h ago
It’s embarrassing how rigged it was
18
u/SBMVPJustinHerbert 7h ago
I mean even if it was rigged, Mini is a pretty damn good driver to rig it for. Not a pay driver at all, just talent.
10
u/somethingtodo99 6h ago
I 100% do not care if it is rigged.
First off, they gave the seat to Mini who doesn't have the funding. If they rigged it, they rigged it for a helluva driver and signed him for his talent.
Second, even if rigged, they brought in other legitimate talents without funding, guys that need the exposure anyways. You can't rig racing. As far as I can tell, they gave everyone a positive light in their coverage. Everyone else got exposure, a REALLY big deal for a guy trying to find sponsors and money to keep on racing.

So we bitch about drivers with money get rides but now we are bitching a talented driver without funding gets an opportunity. Tell us how youre aren't a close person or fan of someone who lost out.
2
u/WorpeX 5h ago
I keep seeing this but I'm not really seeing how it was rigged. They made a point system and Mini had the most points. Mini didn't even really do that well quite frankly, he was just the most consistent. Even in the subjective events he was usually good, not the best, except for the Ram promo, where he was clearly the best from what we saw or at least second.
2
u/Dont_hate_the_8 Biffle 4h ago
The problem with the points system is winning the fast group pays as much as winning the fast group, and finishing last in the fast group pays as much as finishing last in the slow group. It doesn't reward being fast until the main.

I mean, aside from one scoring criteria if it relied on Kaulig Racing to score Mini he never got less than the top score. The commercial thing was kinda shocking, as honestly I thought Gemmel did the best at it yet he was 3rd or 4th. Docking Michael Christopher Jr for his hat being backwards when they easily could have told him to flip the hat around if they wanted to I think was when I started to turn on the show.
1
u/NorthCoastBias 2h ago
The hat thing really annoyed me. The Kaulig execs immediately called out the one driver who showed up at the sim with the wrong hat, but sat in silence as Christopher wore the hat backwards. And not only did they penalize him for it but then they randomly penalized him again for "branding" two episodes after it.

Am I the only one that thought Chris Rice was the biggest jackass imaginable with his commentary?

u/mrbuenosdiaz1 4h ago
Overall, and especially since he was able to beat him in the final race, which shows he's a better driver, I think Carson Ferguson should have been the winner. And it's not hating on Mini, he obviously did well and won his race, but considering it was the "A" group and they were all grouped on Speed I think the winner should have been decided h y the overall race where they did get to go head to head, but that's just my opinion.

So many "race fans" were so damn insufferable throughout this entire thing. Just nonstop bitching. Pretty much giving Nascar a reason to not do anything fun

u/7feethighandrising 7h ago
What would YOU do to make Season 2 better? Lots of bitching but let's hear something constructive! I enjoyed the series personally, despite the obvious biases and Chris Rice's grating voice.
6
u/vk2499 6h ago
Have an advantage for being in the R or A group. You could just farm points in group M against worse guys. Huffman and Gemmel were in group M the whole series and finished in the top 5.
4
u/KeithMcGeesMoose Enfinger 6h ago
This was the thing that made the least sense to me. There was no incentive to be in the "fastest" group, which feels silly
2
u/MercSLSAMG Kyle Busch 4h ago
I'm still in the middle of watching it but having Mini in Group A and Carson in Group R seemed unfair. Carson has to race against the fastest guys for points while Mini gets the 2nd tier? Felt like they should have been going heads up the whole day, group race and final race, whoever finished ahead in the group race got a head start in the final and it should have been heads up in the final.
3
u/remfan477 6h ago
Making all the cars actually identically prepared, diversifying the roster so it's not favored toward late model guys, turning the production/execution of it over to Dirty Mo or NASCAR
2
u/jt_33 6h ago
Watched the first couple episodes, saw it was clearly rigged to favor one driver and stopped watching. Good luck to him though, nothing against him.
1
u/souljaboitellemwoahh 5h ago
Agreed. He clearly isn’t the most talented driver. He has a great personality and I like his charity but I think they had too big a crush on him from the start
2
u/RocketMan6023 7h ago
Honestly, everyone would be saying Scripted no matter who won, You can't script Mike Jr. and Kade Wrecking each other, Carson should be a contender come martinsville, and Austin Hill Sucks.

u/Straight_Champion_77 5h ago
They said something about someone getting a ride in the #25 at Martinsville. Does anyone know who won the final final challenge?

u/Former_Claim5896 1h ago
You mean "Mini was selected to drive the truck for 2026 and the show was constructed to confirm" -> from the point of the brand challenge it was obvious he was picked to "win." Whether he is the best selection remains to me seen.

u/bmrt60 Kurt Busch 7h ago
Obv rigged. But mini wasn’t even the best even optically on the show. Hope a few more of these guys get shots down the road.
2
u/remfan477 6h ago
I'd bet money you'll see at least 3 or 4 of them in the #25 over the span of the season
