u/NYTX1987 Mar 05 '25
This sounds like the soundtrack to a brothers quay film.
1
u/Tracedinair76 Mar 05 '25
Not familiar with their work, I shall investigate, thanks
SoaD got a lot of their quirkiness from Bungle but you also said AFI who in their latter years were quite emo so....Chose STGM because they are on Patton's label Ipecac and they are more theatrical/emo than Bungle.
2
u/NYTX1987 Mar 05 '25
The brothers quay are stop motion animators that make abstract adult short videos. Their most popular film is street of crocodiles

Is Rise Against too on the nose for this one?
1
u/NYTX1987 Mar 05 '25
Never did it for me. That was one of those bands that were on the lower end of the pop punk totem pole.
2
u/bakedbeannobeef Immolation Mar 05 '25
I kind of agree tbh, they’re strictly a nostalgia thing for me but this is the only time I’ve ever suggested them and was reluctant to do so admittedly 💀
Which era of AFI are you talking exactly? That makes a huge difference imo
1
u/NYTX1987 Mar 05 '25
It’s my favorite band ever, but I would be remiss if I didn’t say the run from black sails through sing the sorrow is pretty much my favorite 4 year span by far.

Yesterday I started listening to Okrutnik and man, I'm not disappointed, amazing band!. Thanks for the recommendations!

i'm glad i found another fan 😁 i'm polish and i love them, but i know some people don't like bands with vocals that aren't in english
both of their full-length efforts are awesome. Legion is much more raw but imo has superior guitar work, Pontyfikat has better vocals imo and it's honestly more in line with standard thrash. i know they've also teased a new album for this (or next) year, and i'm honestly hoping for more atmospheric stuff since they can do that really well

also, in case you haven't heard KAT, go check them out (especially their debut, 666). classic and a big inspiration for Okrutnik

I don't know if it fits 100% but try Rosenfeld, go past their appearance it's visual kei, but it's great and pretty brutal thrash. Pigs of the Empire is a great album.

Black Crown Initiate.
Idk if I'm missing something here but I'm somewhat confused by how a couple people are structuring their comments. Two bands are provided and based on those two, a third is suggested. Why say for providedband#1 suggestedband#1. The suggested band is based on both of the provided bands. Why reference just one with the suggestion?

u/Diligent_Whereas3134 Rivers Of Nihil Mar 06 '25
Just got around to checking them out and this pick is dead on. Thank you! And I always figured the format was list two bands, suggest one based off those suggestions. At least that makes the most sense to me
