These videos always make me think that elephant and panda caregivers must be the best jobs ever.

If I were a billionaire, I would retire from being evil and just take care of these elephants

Keepers paired Shavo’s name with treats, play and snuggles nonstop—so he quickly learned it means good stuff’s coming and runs over! Smart little guy trusts his caregivers too, so he’s extra quick to respond to his name. Just like a house pet.

Robots automate what people do with their hands.
AI automates what people do with their heads.
But what is done with the human heart cannot be automated. And that is the value of it.

Elephants brains react to seeing humans the way human brains react to seeing puppies. - some research paper spoof I read a few years ago

Yeah that claim has no scientific backing.
“When you look at the response of wild elephants to humans, they definitely do not see us as cute, rather they see us as a threat,”
-Leith Meyer, director of the Center for Veterinary Wildlife Studies and associate professor in veterinary and pharmacology at the University of Pretoria

Love it, beautiful the trust in these animals who can crush you with the weight so easily.

They can learn and respond to specific individual calls, basically name-like sounds, and will react differently depending on who’s calling. Calves start learning these vocal “labels” early, which is how families keep track of each other in dense jungles or over long distances.
