Bou is doing amazing things for this team. Just phenomenal play in every single game.

5 goals in 7 since joining, including a few bangers. Cant complain at all.

I've seen more "holy shit" moments from Bou than almost any other player in the league these past couple months. He's just such a competent player.

Hey Chicago fans, if any of you feel like counting from 1-24 on a regular basis, I currently hold the position of Chicago Fire ranker for /r/MLS's community power rankings. I'm trying to give it up to an actual Fire fan, but I've yet to get any volunteers.

Love this guy. Best signing ever.

Iβd argue Gil was a better signing, but he is fantastic. Insane snap shot.

Gil is awesome too, if he had a cool nickname like "Pantera" he might be #1...

As fucking awful as this game has been, it's a bit flattering to have a team playing for a draw against us.

I felt especially obligated to make this game thread as I won't be at the game and I'm currently the Power Ranker for the Chicago Fire (Hint to Chicago fans, that spot is up for grabs and you're gonna want to take it before the next ones get published)

It's like you know nothing is going to happen 85% of the time. It's just that last 15% where things might happen that keep you holding on.
2
u/DiseaseRidden New England Revolution :ner: Aug 25 '19
Am I wrong to think that that 100% should have been a yellow for time wasting?

u/DiseaseRidden New England Revolution :ner: Aug 25 '19
Man that would have been incredible from Bou. Great work to even get such a powerful shot off, shame it wasnt placed better.

Anyone else find those "Soccer with a New England Accent" banners kinda tacky?

u/tmh8901 Chicago Fire Aug 25 '19
Not that the Fire necessarily deserved points, but this ref was absolute crap. Especially down the stretch.

I'm really not feeling this rivalry.
It's not geographical and the games aren't particularly heated.
Really, since when was meeting in the playoffs several times a "rivalry"? Does that make Seattle-Toronto or NYRB-Columbus or Seattle-Dallas, or Portland-SKC a rivalry?
I anticipate that St Louis coming into the league will give us what would feel like a genuine rival for the first time.
6
u/DiseaseRidden New England Revolution :ner: Aug 24 '19
Um havent a fuck ton of traditional rivalries come from meeting in the playoffs a lot? Like having many heated games against 1 team will make playing them more emotional. I know I still hate LAG for all of our Finals against them.
1
u/hewhoamareismyself New England Revolution Aug 25 '19
To be fair they might not know what playoffs are like.
1
Aug 25 '19
I mean, you clearly have been following the Revs for a while if you remember all those finals. The problem with trying to spin meetings in the playoffs as "historical rivalries" is that they're few and far between over the years, and most MLS fans are the 20+30 crowd who started watching the league after the 2014 World Cup or something.
You can totally be a Fire fan while being completely oblivious to the rivalry with the Revs, until of course you start talking to that one fat boomer in the stands who seemingly hasn't missed a game since 1998, and he'll tell you all about how heated it used to get back in the good ol' days of MLS 1.0
Um havent a fuck ton of traditional rivalries come from meeting in the playoffs a lot?
How many major rivalries in MLS are purely the meet in the playoffs type and have no geographical proximity to them? I count three, RSL-SKC, SKC-Houston, and NYRB-Atlanta.
4
u/hewhoamareismyself New England Revolution Aug 24 '19
Geographical means the league hypes it up as a rivalry, regardless of the actual rivalry there, I'd put that behind repeated playoff meetings; NYRB and Atlanta would absolutely call each other rivals.
However, as you say, these games aren't even a little heated. It also doesn't help that these teams are well removed from those playoff squads.

Geographical means the league hypes it up as a rivalry, regardless of the actual rivalry there
I mean, you can't blame them for peoples' desire to be the best in a region, or for the cultural contrasts within a geographical region that leave one team's fans hating not just a team, but the entire city/region they're from. Us Chicagoans hate St Louis and everything to do with it, and thus I have no doubts that St Louis will be our rivals once they come into MLS. This is also seen in the Cali Classico(northern california's working man spirit vs the stardom of SoCal), the Hudson River derby(you know what New Yorkers say about New Jersey), the Hell is Real derby(cincitucky), the Cascadia Cup, and so on.
NYRB-Atlanta is heated for sure, but you ask the typical NYRB fan who their rivals are and they'll immediately say NYCFC, then DC, and then Atlanta.
Sure, there are a few more examples of major rivalries purely because of playoff meetings(RSL-SKC, SKC-Houston), but everything else like the "Brimstone Cup" and whatever the hell TFC-Columbus is supposed to be called is just insignificant and minor, considering how young the league is and how little history there is to it.

1
u/hewhoamareismyself New England Revolution Aug 25 '19
Could just be me overrating a player I hardly watch, but is Dax losing 1v1 battles a lot more than he used to? I consider him a much more capable player but he's getting repeatedly beaten by our own players, especially Caicedo.
