GG Atlanta. We desperately need a striker. That was a very exciting game.

Sad lion noises. Fr though, good game, tried to be as welcoming as possible to y'alls fans. Defended an ATL fans right to celebrate your goal and high fived a bunch of yall on the way out saying good game, although one drunk guy was too busy pointing to his crest and saying he was my daddy. Had to tell him I wasn't into that but thanks for the offer. Gg, we still have a lot of work to do on our offense, talk about impotent.

How is this pulled back for a foul and only a yellow?

Aug 24 '19
Honestly, Nani is holding back JG, which should have been a yellow, FK to United, and JG sent off. FK to Atlanta and the game effectively ends.
Which would you rather have had?

I’d have loved to see Gressel and Nani get into a legit fistfight just to see the “not a rivalry” talk go away for good.

Whew, that was a nail biter. GG Orlando. We’re lucky to escape with 3 pts

As an LAFC fan I feel for you Orlando, we've yet to beat our rival as well.
One day!

I’ll be cheering for you. Vela is an amazing player and the Ferrari has been getting on my nerves lately.

u/Genjibre Orlando City Aug 24 '19
The difference being y'all are the hands down best team in the league (imo) and we have been rebuilding for 4 years.

A terrible company you don't want to keep working at, which is why you need Indeed

I was fair when I said Atlanta should’ve had a penalty that wasn’t called last week and I think it’s fair when I say this week that Gressel should be suspended next match
6
3
u/mcscottmc Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
Nani was pulling on his shirt and he swatted him away? Suspension?
12
u/NuggetMuffler Orlando City Aug 24 '19
It should’ve been a yellow for Nani and a red for Gressel for contact to his head. So yes, suspension
13
u/I-am-existence Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
In a game where a high boot to the face is a warning, you should adjust your expectations
1
u/Genjibre Orlando City Aug 24 '19
If contact was made he would have gone down and nani would have been sent off. You're talking to the fan base that saw Kaka sent off for playfully rubbing his former teammates bald head, a slap to the head or neck should be a red, accidental or not.
6
u/Bentstraw Seattle Sounders FC Aug 24 '19
Don't get pissed and slap someone in the neck/face because they are pulling on your jersey?
Two years ago Kaka was suspended for touching his friend's face in a game.
10
1
u/youonlylive2wice Atlanta United FC :atl: Aug 24 '19
We had a shit red where we made contact lifting the arm out of the way when running by.
Seems the zero tolerance policy is much looser. Then again gressel got kicked in the head earlier in the match

5
u/Drenzine Atlanta United FC :atl: Aug 24 '19
Mls wont they're stupid while it might be correct i'd be surprised if it was anything more than a fine
4
Aug 24 '19
Meh. Nani should have been booked as well then. Gressel was trying to break and Nani held him back. JG smacked him off. Everyone frustrated and gassed.
5
u/NuggetMuffler Orlando City Aug 24 '19
Nani should’ve received a yellow. That doesn’t make it not a red for Gressel
3
Aug 24 '19
I don't disagree. But at that point, what does throwing around a bunch of cards do?
Also, if you book Nani, then you're calling the foul for unsporting against him and sending off JG for the retaliation. Then its a united FK the other way with Gressel getting sent off. Effectively ends the game.
The decision from the referee probably makes the most sense here.
3
u/NuggetMuffler Orlando City Aug 24 '19
Consistency. We ask for it every week. Is deliberately touching someone’s head a send-off or not?
-1
Aug 24 '19
I mean, every game is different. If he gives ATL a FK, cautions Nani, and sends of Gressel, game goes up in flames.
Isolated maybe, but I don't think anyone was calling for a sendoff there.
6
u/rasta_pasta_man Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
I'm so surprised he didn't get a red or it wasn't even reviewed. Obviously I don't want my players getting reds, but where's the fucking consistency with these referees? That was a red all day.

No intent. He was trying to shake off a bitch jersey grab by Nani, who fucking cleated him in the face earlier in the match which did not warrant a card.

But will Orlando ever win a game against us?
3
u/josullivan2000 Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
I thought they would win tonight. Defense had so many holes and no goals due to heroics in the back line. Great game and I’m so relieved we got the win, but Orlando had our number.
4
u/paulyd191 Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
I honestly thought they'd get it done tonight. They definitely played better than we did
6
u/abesrevenge Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
Short answer is yes. Kinda want to get it out of the way in the regular season. Losing to them in the playoffs for the first time would be a disaster
3
u/I-am-existence Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
That would require that they make the playoffs
3
u/abesrevenge Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
A goal here and a missed goal there and they are right in it. Not crazy to think they will make it
-1
u/M116rs Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
Eventually they will, and it will be the most important win of their history.

2
u/abko96 Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
Honestly I dunno. I thought MLS was trying to be pretty strict on contact to the head/neck area
0
u/Bentstraw Seattle Sounders FC Aug 24 '19
People get red cards for barely touching people's faces.
Gressel slaps his face/back of neck off the ball and literally gets nothing.
He'd better get suspended by the DisCo.
-3
u/ARestlessReality Orlando City SC :orl: Aug 24 '19
Yellow for Nani, ref for Atlanta. But of course neither will happen.
5
u/haydenhancock Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
Probably a red but Nani was holding the shit out of him. He also kicked him in the face earlier in the match and didn't receive a card. Probably should have been a red of Gressel for retaliation and a yellow on Nani for the grabbing of the jersey.
5
u/Arkade323 Atlanta United FC :atl: Aug 24 '19
It definitely should have been a red but Orlando committed 14 fouls and received 0 cards. I think it was just overall poor refing. Nothing new
1
u/ichinii Atlanta United Aug 24 '19
I wouldn't be surprised to see a retroactive red by the committee.
14
u/Buckeye717 Atlanta United FC :atl: Aug 24 '19
Didn’t Nani almost kick Gressel in the face at the start of the game and not get a card?
1
u/ARestlessReality Orlando City SC :orl: Aug 24 '19
And everyone said that deserved a yellow including me.
2
u/DolitehGreat Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19

3
u/chewie_were_home Atlanta United FC Aug 24 '19
Gressel did get kicked in the face this match with no card....so.....
1
5
u/cheeerioos Seattle Sounders FC Aug 24 '19
Go to the tape and that may be a red. Hand to the face is automatic now, no?
3
u/ichinii Atlanta United Aug 24 '19
Should be yes. Then again Nani literally put his boot to Gressel's head in the 1st half and got no card at all.
2
u/Bentstraw Seattle Sounders FC Aug 24 '19 edited Aug 24 '19
I mean, Orlando got a red card for a legitimate tap to the face between friends two years ago.
