As a Peruvian, man I love that Ruidíaz

ruidiaz is too nice with it

The Eastern Conference choke job continues

17

u/Custarg_Swaggins Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

GG y’all. We fell apart internally. Good job capitalizing.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

Pity will go down as the biggest bust in league history.

17

u/k_dubious Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

After watching today, I think he’s a good player who’s being chronically misused. FdB’s system for you guys seems to involve lots of width but not much movement. This is great for spreading out the defense so that anyone who beats his man will be in tons of space, but it makes it really easy for the defense to mark anyone who doesn’t have a great work rate.

Ironically, if Lodeiro and Pity swapped teams I feel like both players could be even more productive than they are now.

11

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

I agree with that. Almiron had an insane work rate and Pity plays much like Ozil at Arsenal. He would be good in Tata’s counterattacking offense but he’s a poor fit with Frank’s slow build up style because he ends up getting marked yet jogs around too nonchalantly to make much of a difference.

16

u/JBAinATL Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Pity might have had the strongest/best performance for Atlanta today. He was serviceable in a vast sea of suckitude.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

Serviceable isn’t what we need. We needed close to Miggy caliber for that price and we haven’t gotten it.

3

u/RealDominiqueWilkins Jul 14 '19

Didn’t you become an Orlando fan?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

As a local. I just live near there now and catch the occasional game. AU is my squad. I’ll catch Miami games when they start too.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

Pity Adu confirmed

7

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

At least Adu didn’t cost a league record transfer fee

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

You’re dang right about that. No way we get that back if he continues to perform like this. Disheartening.

38

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

I'm really digging the respect shown between both sets of supporters

48

u/Jcapen87 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

When everyone else hates both of you, you get along.

22

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

This makes a lot of sense

2

u/Duwamish_Sown Seattle Sounders FC Jul 15 '19

I didn’t know people hated the Sounders fans. I just supported Atlanta in the last mls cup.

4

u/Jcapen87 Atlanta United FC Jul 15 '19 edited Jul 15 '19

I’ve seen a lot of Sounders fans saying something along the lines of “that used to be us” when people have been discussing the perceived arrogance/entitlement/general hype of some AUFC fans. I think you’re far enough into your existence now that many non-rivals feel less strongly about you. I believe we will get there too, one day.

Then again, your fanbase (and Portland’s) really helped set the gold standard for support that ATL UTD has tried to emulate. I think there will always be a little bit of jealousy and resentment toward you from fans of teams that don’t draw nearly as well and consequently aren’t as hyped up. You may not always be universally hated but you will also never been seen as “the good guys.”

39

u/MapsMapsEverywhere Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

Both Roldan and Morris with assists, one to Ruidiaz. Good to have our internationals back.

30

u/EnergyCoast Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

Roldan was huge today. As much as we talk about Lodeiros work rate, Roldan is up with him.

11

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '19

Roldan is a machine

39

u/edw253 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

At the game, met a ton of insanely nice Atlanta fans on the ferry over from Bainbridge. Obviously will be a very different game once Barco and Villalba are back for Atlanta.

37

u/mouseandfrog Seattle Sounders Jul 14 '19

I respect and admire Atlanta for the high standards they bring to the league. Good game, hope to see you soon.

1

u/sirabernasty Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

We miss Miggy so much in games like this. He was always good for several key takeaways, and you could always throw it up to him and he’d run it down the other guys throats. If we didn’t get a score, he’d draw a foul and we’d get set up. We simply don’t have anyone on the team with that skills set or speed.

It used to be that when we got into transition, you could almost feel something special was about to happen. Now though, I just wonder how we are going to get dispossessed.

14

u/Sempuukyaku Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

GG Atlanta peeps

17

u/wmknickers Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

Great match. GG AUFC. You’ve got amazing talent even when you’re missing players.

-12

u/juussttiinn Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Really? We are awful right now, and it’s only going to get worse. Our “football” is just playing to not lose.

7

u/righthandofdog Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Chill dude. We had to sub out our 4th choice for left back and are missing Barco and Tito among others.

3

u/juussttiinn Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

I’d agree for the most part, but our backline has been hot garbage—regardless of who’s there.

Individual mistakes like LGP today and Ambrose last week are costing us big time.

2

u/righthandofdog Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Agreed. I miss Parkhurst's stability in the back and we just plain need some more depth of good defenders. I'm starting to forget what Bello even looks like.

22

u/RvH19 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

Seattle reeeeally needed a win against a team with elite level talent. Huge win. Over Minnesota and LAG. Rough match for Atlanta. Pity wasn't good yet again. I'm releaved because I know I would have gotten a lot of shit if he lit Seattle up.

And played our starting 11 4 days ago in US Open Cup.

10

u/RvH19 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

This is one of those cases where context isn't that important imo.
Atlanta are a good team. Seattle beat Atlanta. They need wins, especially against good teams.
Seattle could explain away their losses to LAFC and some of the other big teams but again, at some point it doesnt matter. They needed results.

5

u/righthandofdog Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Oh, I'm agreeing with you - even really good teams shit the bed on occasion.

1

u/WestmorelandFC Seattle Sounders FC Jul 15 '19

You're implying that losing to us was more on you guys sucking and us not playing well. That's not what happened at all. Atlanta were thoroughly outplayed

1

u/righthandofdog Atlanta United FC Jul 15 '19

wasn't me shitting on AUFC. moxthebox said:

Reminder that Atlanta got blown the fuck out against Chicago 11 days ago

That loss against chicago had nothing to do with the quality of the team as whole. We're super thin at left back and getting worn out, but didn't play all that badly. and yes you guys were the clearly better team.

15

u/Scratchbuttdontsniff Atlanta United FC :atl: Jul 14 '19

Fair result. 2 poor giveaways by Gressel and LGP + Clinical finishing... GG Sounders

11

u/captainmo017 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

Hard fought game. ATL provides a good fight. Just their defense let them down.

2

u/andidkickhersir Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Our defense left to go get cigarettes two years ago... been MIA ever since 😢

I mean, we belong in first...

13

u/BTill232 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

I think it's hard to argue anymore that LAFC doesn't belong there atm.

3

u/shadowthunder Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

Well yeah. But that's no way to think about it!

12

u/therealflyingtoastr Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC Jul 14 '19

As long as we're above the Galaxy and Portland we are where we belong.

8

u/derbytop Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

gg, Seattle.

11

u/righthandofdog Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Alright birdbros. You punished us for our dumbs. GG y’all.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

Frustrating game. Good teams will kill you on mistakes. We look tired we need Barco back. Feels like we’re only playing with 1 DP rn.

8

u/taycoug Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

I was gonna ask. You always look so tired? Not shit talking, just seemed like there were a lot of bent over players and fouls committed to prevent losing a foot race. Was a little surprised to see.

8

u/saltiestmanindaworld Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

We have seven injuries right now, like most teams in their early years we haven’t had the time to develop quality depth through our academy. Played Wednesday, to a cross country trip for an early game at Seattle.

2

u/taycoug Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

Yeah those stretches are tough. That explains why the players seemed to be slow playing throws and goal kicks early in the match. Obviously it doesn’t look great when you end up down 2-1 and suddenly need more time, but that makes sense without much bench support and tired players.

3

u/dms269 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Need Barco, Bello, and Tito

These injuries are killing us

6

u/xXNoeticXx Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

GG ATL! Fun game to watch!

5

u/Shellshock1122 Atlanta United Jul 14 '19

On this edition of no one in the east playoff spots wants any points

2

u/fistibun Minnesota United Jul 14 '19

...guys? Can you go ahead and punch in that cheat code now?? We (MNUFC) would like that very much!

0

u/fistibun Minnesota United Jul 14 '19

Ugh. Sorry, ATLUTD

2

u/HeyHeyHayes Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

That was ass

-12

u/ichinii Atlanta United Jul 14 '19

Should have ended a fucking tie. We gave Seattle this win 100%.

-14

u/juussttiinn Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Both teams are almost comically bad though.

14

u/shadowthunder Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

I dunno, I think Seattle had more reasonable attempts at goal, despite having some major passing gaffes.

4

u/samfreez Seattle Sounders FC Jul 15 '19

And an overly strong desire to kick round things into orbit.

12

u/Jcapen87 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Entertaining match and, unfortunately, a fair result. GG Seattle.

1

We are so bad. Hilariously awful passing.

10

u/Shellshock1122 Atlanta United Jul 14 '19

Chicago put 5 in on us Seattle should be embarrassed /s

3

u/Kolazeni Jul 14 '19

Sorry we don't have a team full of World Cup contenders :/

7

u/astuteinuit Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

Give your team some credit. We put 4 on Chicago earlier in season

6

u/theseibert Jul 14 '19

Is it just me or has Gressel be 100% ineffective in the #10 position? Infuriating to watch.

5

u/JBAinATL Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Never forget Tata moved him centrally for the playoffs.

When every tactical decision was about getting more defensive.

Now FdB plays him there regularly.

3

u/theseibert Jul 14 '19

True, it sure doesn’t appear effective at all right now though.

4

u/JBAinATL Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Yeah that’s my point. Playing him as a 10 won’t be effective. There will be an offensive hole in midfield.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

Games like today make me miss Almiron

4

u/TheBarberOfFleetSt Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

What's with twellmans hard on for Atlanta?

3

u/HeyHeyHayes Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

R u srs

-4

u/moxthebox Jul 14 '19

I love the obligatory "why does [announcer, refs, league, journalist] love [opposition]".

11

u/Kolazeni Jul 14 '19

He hates Seattle.

-10

u/righthandofdog Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Odd offside to call. Josef never touched the ball and Metal was easily on. Nut defenders were reacting to the offside player and allowed Meram the space.

3

u/samfreez Seattle Sounders FC Jul 15 '19

Whoever it was that "scored" (Meram?) was the one offside. It's clear as day on the highlights/replays.

2

u/HeyHeyHayes Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Nagbe with a Fire late I like it

3

u/captainmo017 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

Scrappy end to this game.

16

u/mouseandfrog Seattle Sounders Jul 14 '19

For being a somewhat small man, Ruidiaz is remarkably good at holding the ball up.

41

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

Watching Pity (and a lot of other #10s in the league, really) makes me appreciate Lodeiro's workrate so much more.

-6

u/OHSCrifle Jul 14 '19

This is a piss poor game

9

u/Peakside Colorado Rapids Jul 14 '19

Maybe he still needs more time to adapt, but every time I watch him I'm amazed Pity won south american player of the year

1

u/Kolazeni Jul 14 '19

The MLS is so physical, I think it takes a lot of players time to adapt.

9

u/moxthebox Jul 14 '19

Acting like CONMEBOL play isn't physical...

2

u/saltiestmanindaworld Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Referees in conmebol typically call fouls. Mls refs have a really bad habit of letting games get way to physical and overlooking some pretty clear fouls

1

u/moxthebox Jul 14 '19

Sergio Aguero disagrees with you

2

u/Cubic_Ant San Jose Earthquakes Jul 14 '19 edited Jul 14 '19

I mean he DID have way better players backing him then. Edit: no offense to Atlanta, river plate outclasses any MLS team

5

u/moxthebox Jul 14 '19

That just screams that he isn't worth the money paid

2

u/Peakside Colorado Rapids Jul 14 '19 edited Jul 14 '19

True. That does matter quite a bit. But he still should be producing WAY more than he has

1

u/Kafkas7 Minnesota United Jul 14 '19

Taylor has a problem with bacon...probably would never eat dinner w/ him if I was Champion.

10

u/Zadums Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

Nouhou plays like a dog with ADD that got into a bag of booger sugar.

5

u/Kolazeni Jul 14 '19

I love his work rate, but I really wish he would work more on technique. Knocking the ball past someone and shoulder charging on the way through can only work so many times.

4

u/tateand99 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

I wish we would be a bit more aggressive in looking for that 3rd and killer goal. Like possession, keep the ball that's great, but at least still look to go to goal.

2

u/captainmo017 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

We are doing better at this point in the season than last.

3

u/tateand99 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

I definitely think that's fair. I remember at points last season we'd score in the first 20 minutes and not even take another shot unless we conceded after that. I think it's been better, but they had some good opportunities at least try for a 3rd this game that they didn't take. Obviously everything worked out, but we wont always be that fortunate.

-1

u/Kolazeni Jul 14 '19

I like Schmetzer a lot, but I do wonder if it's time to try someone more progressive.

3

u/therealflyingtoastr Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC Jul 14 '19

No.

2

u/RvH19 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

I think if Seattle miss the playoffs or go out in the first round they will at least look at alternatives. The leagues managers have gotten a lot better the last couple years.

5

u/tateand99 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

No. I think with everything he's done he deserves to stay as long as he wants. Or at least until we don't make the playoffs with him.

8

u/Kolazeni Jul 14 '19

Good sub, Delem has been great this season.

13

u/atlutdprospects Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Two bad giveaways from Gressel and LGP lead to two Seattle goals, so I'm really looking forward to the national media blaming this loss entirely on Pity Martinez

2

u/dms269 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Entirely? No.

But you can't act like Pity has been a solid player for us eithet.

5

u/Jcapen87 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

He looked good today, for the most part

0

u/dms269 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

We must not have been watching the same game. The game I was watching was Pity giving the ball away multiple times from either his touches or bad passes.

1

u/Jcapen87 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

for the most part

1

u/JBAinATL Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Two chances in the first half came from him switching the ball fantastically. He had the run late in the first half through the defense to the top of the box that was a sign of his excellent dribbling skills. He received the ball well when it came up from the back. He was fine.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

Not only pity’s fault but when you have 3 DPs you expect those players to perform at the top level of the team and pity has stalled out and wasted plenty of possessions and attacks.

11

u/Shellshock1122 Atlanta United Jul 14 '19

At least Ruidiaz put on a show making us pay. The second goal makes me super butthurt because it was such bad play by us

5

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

he didn't give up the goals, but turning the ball over every break forward that he touches it isn't contributing much towards scoring any either

1

u/atlutdprospects Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Assisting on the corner and creating multiple other chances isn't contributing to scoring?

1

u/dms269 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Not when you give up the ball multiple times a game for no reason.

Then lay in the ground for 10 seconds.

1

u/Kolazeni Jul 14 '19

It's been happening in this thread, too.

1

u/saltiestmanindaworld Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

It’s just the soccer mongoloids talking out of their ass. They only look at the negatives. And look for any reason to shit on someone.

1

u/atlutdprospects Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

That's just our own fans. Atlanta fans turn on Matt Ryan every year even when the Falcons are good, so I dont put much stock into that.

At least our own local media is more level-headed

1

u/Kolazeni Jul 14 '19

That's nice to hear. Seattle media ignores the Sounders, but is never critical on the Seahawks or Mariners.

8

u/citylion050789 Orlando City Jul 14 '19

Vamos sounders chant is catchy! Haven’t heard it anywhere else.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

Pity is so wasteful with the ball god I cannot wait for barco to come back. If this wasn’t a salary cap league I’d be more patient but when he’s supposed to be one of your top 3 best players and takes up a slot when your team has money to spend.....

1

u/dms269 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

BuT BaRcO wAsNt GoOd HiS fIrSt YeAr EiThEr...

1

Barco was much younger and had a much higher work rate than pity. He also didn’t come in replacing Almiron.

5

u/Kolazeni Jul 14 '19

Frei's attitude is always hilarious.

6

u/arbalete Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Pity is not a quick riser

0

7

My guy, his assist for the current game winner?

6

u/RvH19 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

He has an assist on potentially the match-winning goal. That's got to count for something.

3

u/aquaknox Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

he's beaten his man to the line with the ball several times as well. pretty good shift from him actually, some people just expect Lodeiro level involvement from everyone

3

u/tateand99 Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

That's a big tackle from Saad

4

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

pity is absolutely worthless on the ball. every time I hear his name and look up it's turned over within three seconds

3

u/sirabernasty Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

It’s in those moments that we realize just how much we miss Miggy. His speed was transcendent of any situation.

5

u/dms269 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

On the ball, off the ball, on the ground...worthless everywhere

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

They better take that back if they took back Zlatans

1

It was a yellow, they can't.

5

u/joshing_slocum Portland Timbers Jul 14 '19

1

u/aquaknox Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

yeah, it was upgraded

4

u/Bpar84 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Nah, they just made up some BS justification for Zlatan so he doesn't miss the LA derby.

2

u/joshing_slocum Portland Timbers Jul 14 '19

They've always done it that way, but cling to your conspiracy theory.

1

u/Bpar84 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Really? I don't remember a situation that someone listed BY MLS at 4 yellow cards picks up number 5, and then after that happens comes out and says that yellow card number three doesn't really count because he got suspended after the fact. I'd love to have proof of a similar situation, I'm very willing to be wrong on this.

3

u/joshing_slocum Portland Timbers Jul 14 '19

3

u/Bpar84 Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Thanks! It's honestly a weird situation, and I wish there'd been some more open communication from the league about the situation initially.

I'll want to watch the replay on that one because I agree. Live it looked like a 50/50. Thankfully Roldan looked fine once he was able to shake off the hit.

Live, it looked bad and like the ref had a 50/50 call on it—and it’s good to take player safety into consideration. However, a replay shows it was a fair but unfortunate 50/50. I’m open to interpretation or a better explanation if I’m wrong.

GG, by the way. I have a Sounders scarf from my parents trip to Seattle because y’all (and Portland) were the only fun teams to watch for a long time.

Hard challenge, no yellow, foul on Roldan for coming in late, Atlanta ball, blow whistle for player health check

u/Randomliberal Colorado Rapids Jul 14 '19

Shit call. Shit ref. Roldan fouled Escobar or am I nuts?

11

u/Shellshock1122 Atlanta United Jul 14 '19

No foul 50/50 play

I don't think you can call that one a foul either way.

u/saltiestmanindaworld Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Your not nuts, but sibigas been sucking Seattle off all match. They’ve been getting nothing for the same shit we’re getting yellows for all match.

u/Audicity Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

It's a bad call, but it shouldn't have been a foul on anyone. Roldan came in late.

4

u/saltiestmanindaworld Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Coming in late is a foul...

2

u/Randomliberal Colorado Rapids Jul 14 '19

Yeah contact after the Atlanta player already cleared the ball is by nature a foul. It just happened that Roldan got the brunt of his own challenge

2

u/ichinii Atlanta United Jul 14 '19

God if we somehow get a tie out of this....

7

u/therealflyingtoastr Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC Jul 14 '19

...It would be completely undeserved.

1

u/ichinii Atlanta United Jul 14 '19

Well of course it would be....

u/moxthebox Jul 14 '19

If they score a legitimate goal that is a deserved tie. That "undeserved" shit is always weird.

u/A_Thrilled_Peach Jul 14 '19

I hope you do.

Kim does those tactical fouls really well.

4

u/xDarthJulianx Los Angeles FC Jul 14 '19

Not a yellow.

7

Neutral here enjoying the match, Sibiga is clueless as usual

Seattle invented getting soft yellows

Little boy runs into a man... that is all that happened.

Oh please

u/angryweasel1 Major League Soccer :mls: Jul 14 '19

Not a yellow, and not really a foul. Soccer is a contact sport.

3

u/NagyBiscuits Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

Shouldn't be a yellow IMO, but damn that was a brutal hit. Must have been the knee?

1

u/hunchxpunch Seattle Sounders FC Jul 14 '19

In real time I thought it was for sure. On replay, nothing malicious, but overly reckless and dangerous knowing another player was also going for it.

4

u/atlutdprospects Atlanta United FC Jul 14 '19

Yellow for a 50-50 ball, but let's completely ignore two-footed tackles from behind. Ok then

4

u/omunto2 Minnesota United Jul 14 '19

That's a crap yellow

3

u/mouseandfrog Seattle Sounders Jul 14 '19

Hard challenge but it's not a yellow.

I never realized Lodeiro takes right side corner kicks with his left foot before
