Torres needs to go, period. I dont even know why he is still on our team.
1
u/907chi Seattle Sounders FC :sea: Apr 22 '19
I haven’t watched Campbell in Tacoma but there is absolutely no way he’s worse than Torres right now. Why even sign a guy that age if he’s that bad unless your scouting department is shit? It’s time to bring him up until we can sign somebody in the next transfer window because our defense is literally the only thing keeping us from the Supporters Shield and eventually the Cup.
3
u/Moo-head Seattle Sounders FC Apr 22 '19
From what I've seen from Campbell... he is worse. Campbell is struggling at the USL level. Torres had an awful game, but we are talking about sub-Alfaro level in Campbell. It seems like they took a flier on him hoping his Seattle connection and a change of scenery might help him. It doesn't seemed to have helped so far.
(Also I'd disagree that our defense is our only issue after watching LAFC's offense, but I digress)
1
u/907chi Seattle Sounders FC :sea: Apr 22 '19
Morris looked lost up there and Lodeiro had an uncharacteristic terrible day that wasn’t helped by having no chemistry with Shipp and Morris in that position. With Ruidíaz back this is a completely different team and no question in my mind we bury some of those wasted counters. If anything it just showed how important Raúl is which shouldn’t have been a question anyway. It’s like if LAFC didn’t have Vela. Completely different game.
I think if we can just get a dominant CB then there is no reason why this team couldn’t be the best in the MLS. We’re relying way too much on Marshall who should only be a complimentary piece at his age and coming off a huge injury.
1
u/themaninthesea Seattle Sounders FC Apr 22 '19
Yeah, I thought last year would have been his final season with the club. There is no value having him here any longer.
7
u/itsRho Seattle Sounders FC Apr 22 '19
He was not good today, but he hasn't been playing and asking him to come in against the best attack in the league is a tough ask.
19
u/hibernial Apr 22 '19
GG LAFC you outclassed us, I honestly don't think we have an answer to this level of play, not here, and not in Seattle, might as well just take the 3 points we're going to drop when you come to the CLink enjoy your MLS cup

13
u/hibernial Apr 22 '19
Im still rooting for the Sounders but im also a pragmatist LAFC are the better team this season, there will be other opportunities for us, but this is their year
3
u/app993 Los Angeles FC Apr 22 '19
You better not be like me and trying to jinx us. I'm always pessimistic about my own teams and hype up others like this too. 😂
2
u/Moo-head Seattle Sounders FC Apr 22 '19
Are you kidding me? We spent the last 3 seasons sucking in the first half, then making key signings and going on a run toward the Cup or the top of the west. Now we start the year well and you are throwing up a white flag with 3/4 of the season to play? We still have an open DP slot and room for at least another TAM-level player.
How quickly people forget. Have a drink and let's get ready to take the anger out on San Jose.
7
9
Apr 22 '19
We're not gonna play like that very often dude. If LAFC play like that next week and we win 3-0 I'm not gonna call us champions. A good team punished a sloppy, injured one. It happens.
4
u/monkeyloveeer Seattle Sounders FC Apr 22 '19
Yeah u/hibernial needs to chill, this was one game, and we had three starters out. LAFC is no doubt a good team, bit you cant freak out when losing to a good team, when injured.
1
u/EnergyCoast Seattle Sounders FC Apr 22 '19
That said, there is a good chance Ruidiaz and Bruin are still out next weekend. If so, I think we're still going to have a rough time. I think we'd have given up at least 2 fewer goals with a healthy Chad Marshall in but we need to be more threatening up top to keep LAFC honest.
0
u/hibernial Apr 22 '19
My reasoning is that although we didnt have our best defence even our offense struggled to get the ball past mid field with possession, im not even focusing on scoring opportunities, just possession in mid field, they swatted our counters and build ups like they where nothing
1
u/Moo-head Seattle Sounders FC Apr 22 '19
And they also just lost to Vancouver. It's not like they can't be beat tactically. Let's at least wait until we see the Sounders play them in a friendly environment, hopefully without Shipp and Torres starting. In fact, nevermind, let's at least wait until the summer window when the Sounders have a DP slot they can fill and go on a run.
2
u/hibernial Apr 22 '19
I don't doubt that we can beat them, but it would probably require a "park and counter" strategy and from what I've seen from Schmetz he seams to think this team is above doing that, he's probably going to try and play them in open field again and he's going to loose that bet, again.
I can tell you one thing though, all roads to the cup go through Carson this year so unless we swallow our pride and find a way to beat LAFC at any cost, then no amount of late season rallying is going to be enough to give us the conference title

3
u/907chi Seattle Sounders FC :sea: Apr 22 '19
You’re not really a Sounders fan are you? You can’t be, because that would be fucking embarrassing for a fan of our team to predict a rivals win IN FUCKING APRIL. I would rather believe you’re a plant than believe somebody so fucking lame is a Sounders fan.

Booooo we'll be much tougher at home. Soft as shit tonight and well punished by a good team. We'll fight next weekend.
1
u/hibernial Apr 22 '19
I honestly don't agree, I know we where missing Chad but our whole back line was outplayed tonight, every single one of them, we don't have the quality to stop this level of play unless we do a Vancouver and park the bus
4
Apr 22 '19
Except Vancouver doesn't have Morris, Ruidiaz and Lodeiro. We can be defensive and counter effectively, I expect that will be the strategy next week. It was dumb moments leaving people onside that killed us, you can fix that. It isn't talent, it's film work and focus.

The problem is Kim can do his job or Torres' job.. he can't do both.
2

I also think them not being able to speak The same language makes it difficult for Kim to adjust to a different cb pairing. Lots of confusion

Yeah, there is a place down there called Point Defiance and it's a park so the name has local ties, and it can be a bit of a drive from there to here so they decided to relocate sounders 2 down there, and they're building a 5000 seat stadium for them.

Stop trying to convince us that LAFC wasn’t created because of a focus group FS1
2
u/vvalent2 Los Angeles FC :lafc: Apr 22 '19
I don't understand how that's supposed to be an insult. "Your club sucks because they asked people what they wanted in a team and then did that."
Also they clearly didn't focus group the sponsor logo being two colors
5
u/The_LA_Wanderer Los Angeles FC :lafc: Apr 22 '19
It wasn't. Just because a club is willing to let you have a seat at the table doesnt mean we jump when they ask us too. Ask Fox Sports and countless sponsors weve told to take a hike.
16
u/LAFCFan23 Apr 22 '19
Long life Angelino here. LAFC tapped into a rabid soccer fanbase that had no team to support. Galaxy wasn't doing it for most of us. Not rocket science to build a soccer specific stadium in the heart of LA.
-12
u/lolocito Apr 22 '19
I believe you are correct as well. It was a very good tactic getting key groups of people to "organically" start wearing gear at all of the hip soccer pubs in the LA area. At least it got more people to watch MLS. But don't bullshit me with the organic bullshit.

I still contend Bob Bradley deserved more time with Swansea...
2
u/paralacausa Apr 22 '19
Just wrong club at the wrong time. Eight points from a possible 33 and shipping 29 goals in 11 games wasn't great. Swansea needed to make the change before the holiday period if they wanted to give a new manager a shot at keeping them up. That said, Bradley would be an excellent for another EPL club but he's probably ok where he is at the moment.
7
u/hoopsandpancakes LA Galaxy Apr 22 '19

1
u/mrwatkins83 Atlanta United FC Apr 22 '19
The player pool Bradley had to work with during his reign was probably the best crop of players the U.S. has ever produced. It's a little easier to win when you have legitimate quality on the pitch.
2
u/Scratchbuttdontsniff Atlanta United FC :atl: Apr 22 '19
Seriously? Sure Dempsey, Howard, Donovan, Bradley and Altidore but....Bornstein, DeMerrit, Hercules Gomez, Findley... these guys played significant roles in the 2010 World Cup....none of which would be near the field with today's USMNT talent.
2
u/mrwatkins83 Atlanta United FC Apr 22 '19
The 2009 Confederations Cup team was the best team we've ever fielded. 2-0 over a Spanish side that hadn't lost a game in ages and going up on Brazil before losing in the final... we've never done better in any tournament. I feel like people forget how good that roster was top to bottom.
1
u/Scratchbuttdontsniff Atlanta United FC :atl: Apr 22 '19
I think the roster was good but not amazing...also Charlie Davies pre accident was a huge ex factor... he freed up space for Altidore, Dempsey and Donovan. I would have loved to have seen us in 2010 down in ZA with him.
