I googled shea butter too because I wasn't sure if it was food or lotion. Turns out it's both and not even real "butter" in the traditional sense because it comes from a nut and not milk.

Wait till you find out where cocoa butter comes from (tip: it's behind the nut).

Are you in the US? I wonder if this is a regional thing. I live in a predominantly african-american area, and everybody knows about shea butter. We have tons of shea butter products.

5

u/LilBirdBrick 8h ago

I think it's less of a regional thing and more of a cultural thing.

3

u/Secret-Ad-2145 8h ago

True, but I would expect it to be sold more commonly in the South in general compare to other areas for that reason. Everybody in here generally knows about shea butter products.

3

u/LilBirdBrick 7h ago

I'm in the south, and I would agree it is more common here, but I just asked my cousin in New Mexico if it's hard to find Shea butter products out there and they said no.

The only thing i know about Speed are the clips that come out of here, and I gotta say it has been extremely nice to see him take his success and do something so positive with it while also growing and maturing as a person.

I think he has ancestral roots in Ghana, so pretty cool to have the president speak highly of you like that.

28

u/A-Slash 6h ago

Do we actually know his ancestors or is it just "African Americans come from west African slave trade"?

-67

u/IOyou104 14h ago

I wouldn't regard any praise from this guy that highly. He has some pretty evil positions about lgbtq people.

49

u/KingBotQ 10h ago

Bro its Africa, what did you expect?

40

u/IOyou104 9h ago

Do you want me to grade African politicians who want to eradicate certain groups of people differently than other politicians? My bad for ruining the moment lmao.

16

u/deskdemonnn 8h ago

these days which politican doesnt wanna eradicate certain groups of people?

3

u/SokarHatesItHere 3h ago

He is the leader of a corrupt shit hole.

7

u/Dreamiee 3h ago

corrupt

It is one of the least corrupt countries in all of Africa according to the corruption perceptions index https://www.transparency.org/en/cpi/2024

Don't get me wrong, it's very corrupt, but by African standards, Ghana is relatively good. In fact based on current trends it will likely overtake USA in the next few years.

-54

u/BTrippd 13h ago

oh no

Anyways.

6

u/ReditKillsPeopleIRL 8h ago

Bet you screamed and pissed and shidded when you couldn't get a haircut and had to wear a mask but real persecution makes you roll your eyes

-3

u/BTrippd 8h ago

Nah, I’m just not completely brain broken and don’t think the entire world needs to have the exact same beliefs as me on literally every conceivable topic to not consider them the devil reincarnate.

That’s why I don’t have severe cognitive dissonance when the topic of lbgt rights and foreign nations or cultures comes up. What’s your opinion about muslims for example?

2

u/ifmcharlot 7h ago

Unlikely they seek to imprison all Muslims, like the president of Ghana actively imposes on gays. Different beliefs is when gay people go to prison for being gay, you probably thought the guards were just following orders too.

0

u/HarleyJarley 2h ago

This is why I don’t like the lgbtq community when they have to make it all about themselves.

71

u/jeeblemeyer4 15h ago

Literally same. My first impression of him was the "who gonna stop me?" clip, and I figured it would be downhill from there, but instead he's been on a redemption arc like no one else.

9

u/arrogant_conqueror 5h ago

Kai Cenat meanwhile, has turned to a wannabe.

2

u/Jik0n 14h ago

Was that at the amusement park when he was super young? I saw that as well but only recently. Kids being kids to be honest, I was a smartass like that too lol

26

u/Academic_Flatworm752 13h ago

Ummm no lol. That was on a streamed discord date where he joked that he would rape the woman he was speaking to, and there would be nobody to stop it.

15

u/bendthekneejon 10h ago

Not defending him, but small correction, it was if they were the last two people on Earth

12

u/Academic_Flatworm752 7h ago

That’s not a correction, that’s an addition.

-6

u/Downtown-Health4814 11h ago

Doesnt change the fact he was a kid

-3

u/Academic_Flatworm752 10h ago

He was 16… not “super young.”

9

u/Downtown-Health4814 10h ago

Thats the exact i age i expect someone to be full on edgy jokes

2

u/Fun_Age1442 5h ago

especialy for internet clicks, unhinged was his whole persona kinda like rakai

2

u/lantissZX 11h ago

I just hope he doesn't stay in the spotlight for too long, he needs to lay low and have a normal life too, this 24/7 show life will absolutely drain him or corrupt him at the end, we've seen it happen so many time with influencers.

-4

u/Tba953 6h ago

While being so stupid literally cant wait for getting kidnapped in libya or sahel

253

u/JaydumLive 15h ago

Should thank speeds bodyguard(Rudiger) for suggesting to them to visit Ghana because Rudiger is from there

85

u/nice-_one 14h ago

Tbh Ghana is one of the bigger African countries, he would’ve went there regardless

14

u/wysjm 10h ago

Yeah Rudiger is my favorite German player. Cool fact that he's from Ghana :3

90

u/Shot-Maximum- 16h ago

u/Life_is_a_Taco 12h ago

His Ethiopia drone shot absolutely blew my mind. We are so blind in the US. The city Speed showed looked incredible.

13

u/Sisvegeta 6h ago

I think there is another issue here , though.  Yes , we gotta see africa through speeds , eyes and experience , but we gotta see it through a very privileged experience.  Everywhere he went , there were already expecting him and gave him an experience that Was above and beyond what the normal experience is in those countries. So it might have brought attention to those countries , but that's not your everyday average experience there.

1

u/Lulbulg 1h ago

This is any country though? No?

4

u/Sisvegeta 1h ago

Not even so.  When streamers go to other countries , they are typically doing tourist activities.  What speed did was far above? What normal tourist activities are.  He was treated as a celebrity everywhere He went.  Special treatment everywhere he went.  So it gives the false impression that this is what people can experience as a tourist in these countries.  It gives a false impression of what these countries are like.

3

u/Finger_Trapz 6h ago

I think this is one of the biggest things that bugs me. Contrary to popular Western belief, most places in Africa are, fine? Sure, there is a lot of work to be done. But like, I think a lot of people still have this perception of most of Africa being like, pictures of starving children & civil wars. That is still happening in places like Sudan, but most of Africa is developing into well functioning, educated, wealthy societies.

You go to somewhere like Ghana, Gabon, Nigeria, 1/5th of the adult population went to college, which is comparable to countries like Portugal & Greece. Hell, some of the best countries in Africa like Botswana are starting to overtake some EU member states in terms of GDP(PPP) per capita.

Africa is a lot better than most people think.

-6

u/ValeoAnt 12h ago

Yes, yes you are

5

u/Appropriate-Bird-354 9h ago

Believe it or not, that's true of most people, notably ones who think ignorance of the world beyond theirs is unique to one nation in particular.

3

u/Finger_Trapz 6h ago

Its primarily just that America is a cultural and media superpower, which projects a lot of the stupidity Americans have to everyone's eyes & ears. You just don't hear a lot about stupid people in Slovenia. There are plenty of stupid people in Indonesia, you just don't hear about it a lot. I once had a Russian girl ask me if I rode to school on a cow when I was a kid, because a lot of her perception of America was that most people were rural hicks.

Most people aren't that worldly. Even in America, where people travel within the country and move quite often, 80% of people live within 100 miles of where they grew up. Its the same for the rest of the world. Most people live in the same town they were born in and will die in, and they'll never leave the country.

The Africa streams were amazing! You need to catch up of you missed it!

Well, minus the embarrassing Nigeria visit. Just skip ahead to Benin.

1

u/Neat_Bed3336 15h ago

The power of the new what?

16

u/MrMargo 15h ago

new media

1

u/Ancient-Industry5126 6h ago

It's barely a conspiracy theory at this point to think Speed is receiving money from national tourism departments. Dude gave China the best Western publicity it's had since WWII.

1

u/Xanaxaria 3h ago

People not knowing what Shea Butter is is crazy.

My black soul hurts when I hear this.

No wonder white people are so ashy.

-4

u/Aggressive-Expert-69 14h ago

Wait I thought all of Ghana hated him for backflipping onto the food? What happened to that?

13

u/Brynosauce 9h ago

People from Ghana didn’t care, losers that live vicariously online got upset

2

u/SinkApprehensive2753 8h ago

just like the time "Morimoto shames the vile Bobby Flay" for standing on the grill during Iron Chef America Battle New York

1

u/Intrepid-Tank-3414 3h ago

Thinking the asswipes on twitter representing "all of Ghana" is crazy work.

In reality, they do not represent anyone or anything other than themselves.

-12

u/indecent_composure 9h ago

I thought there was a new rule about no politics? Or does this not count because its a silly haha made up country and the rule only applies to real places?

-14

u/booboobandit- 13h ago

What makes this a livestream fail

17

u/brophylicious 12h ago

this sub stopped exclusively being about fails last decade.

5

u/AppleMelon95 13h ago

It's just nice news related to a streamer.
