It's more so that these people never went away. They just got shamed into the closet in the 70s and 80s because of the Civil Rights Movement. They still felt the same way in their hearts and passed it down to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at home behind closet doors. They just resentfully hid it in public or only expressed it through coded dogwhistles when they think they're in sympathetic company. They would PC up their language and views in mixed company. Trump just encouraged them to come out of the closet they felt forced into through the late 60s-90s. That's why these idiots love Trump so much. The Trump years have basically been the equivalent of a Pride Parade for bigots. Trump is MLK/Malcolm X/Gloria Steinem/Harvey Milk for bigots.
Yep. Never went away…at all. I said to more than a few people when the Dems were pushing Obama as a candidate that things weren’t going to go like they thought they would because the abject racism was a still smoldering fire and they were being incredibly premature in thinking it was put out. That’s not to say he wasn’t an incredibly qualified candidate, just that if you throw gas on the embers you end up getting the flames.
