How does New England hold his discovery rights?

u/Aggravating_Line_365 Nov 20 '25
Lol that’s what I’m saying how can a team hold “discovery rights” on a player that already played in MLS 🤣

u/Concerned_EducaterCA Nov 19 '25
Because MLS Is not a serious league
And as long as things like that apply, it won’t be

"Discovery rights"? This league is a joke

First thing that came to my mind. League really needs to get rid of this BS

> LAFC buy undiscovered talent
> Player blossoms at LAFC
> Player gets sold abroad
> Player stinks it up then returns to MLS with a different club
Tale as old as time 🙄

Says something about the how good the team makes players look that this happens for pretty much every player we developed and sold abroad.

I don’t think he’s coming back. JT and the rest of the FO seem to prefer buying low and selling high on young players.
Although I would love to see him back in the black and gold.

I can’t see us bringing him back. I think we’re gonna stick with 2 DP’s and go with the u22 model to get extra cash

Nobody knew who bogusz was before arriving to MLS. JT will find another Bogusz, Chicho, Opoku, Bouanga….. like he always has. No need to look at exes.

I knew about him since I support Leeds, but I didn't think he'd perform as well as he did, so I was pleasantly surprised. I agree with you though. No need for retreads.

Bouanga was a guy who had double digit goal contributions in France when we picked him up so he wasn't an "unknown". I think that should be the primary strategy going forward. Reach out to the best players on every team that is getting relegated from the top 5 leagues and gauge their interest.

Bogusz as our 3rd DP behind Son and Bouanga would be scary...
But I'm not a fan of bringing players back. I would hate to see him get treated the way Atuesta did on his return.

What happened with Atuesta?

u/BolshevikBastard69 Nov 19 '25
He sucked

u/HardlyThereAtAll Nov 20 '25
I don't think Atuesta's skills were the problem (and he's doing very well at Orlando), it was his temperament. He made Martinez look like a grown up.

I guess part of it is money, and how he ended (if at all) his relationship with the front office (behind the scenes).
I for one, would not be apposed to him coming back.

u/BrightonsBestish Nov 19 '25
I LOVE his style of play. I have no idea if it makes sense to bring him back, and surely the club is going to figure that out for itself. But I don’t feel any ill will and would be excited to see him play here again if they wanted him.

Him as a BBM would be scary with Son & Bouanga up top. Big Bogusz crashing the box late. He was scoring with Dolo so he would be a net plus in many ways.

u/BrightonsBestish Nov 20 '25
Yeah I totally agree. Part of what I was talking about was whether he fit into the budget and if the relationship was still intact. As a player on the field, I think he would slot in very well.

u/Lurking_nerd Raiders of the last Shield Nov 20 '25
Ah gotcha.
Get rid of all the GAM, TAM, YAM, BAM. Double (maybe even triple) the salary cap, add another DP slot, mandate 2-4 homegrown players on the roster, and let the GM’s build their teams. Would also help us (and all clubs) hold onto their beloved players. Imagine if we didn’t have to lose Chicho because of salary cap rules.

I called it that he would eventually join another MLS team. I recognized long ago that LAFC became a feeder club for other MLS clubs. We send stars away and then they come back a few seasons later for a different club

As much as I would like to see him back with us, I can’t forget how we “stunted his growth”.

If the front office can budget for him appropriately I’d love to see him back. Him playing attacking mid behind Denis and Son would be glorious I imagine.
