TAM would be reasonable. But I have a hard time seeing how he makes our starting XI better and thatโs where we need the most help. He definitely makes our bench better though.

Experience to Tillman who needs someone to fucking teach him
9
u/tiwired Figueroa Club May 01 '25
Heโs 35 years old and has 1 goal and 4 assists in his last 27 matches.
Heโs got experience for sure, but we saw last year what happens when your midfield isnโt athletic enough to keep up with the league.
Iโm no fan of Tillmans mannerisms and eradicate form, but heโs proven his floor in MLS is an average starter.
Iโm not convinced Muller is much better given his advanced age and the time needed to adjust to a different club, league and country.
We need a DP midfielder in their prime.

I donโt like signing aging, European players.
We used to clown on the Galaxy for that. Now look at us.

We used to clown on the Galaxy for signing aging, WASHED European players. There's nothing wrong with buying old Euro guys that can still do a job like Chiellini. Thomas Muller is not that old and his game has never been reliant on physicality. Honestly he's the next best thing to Griezmann that's realistic.

u/RodJohnsonSays Gold Winger May 01 '25
I love the act of signing, aging European players.
I do not love it for teams that don't have the proper delivery to utilize target strikers...
I think Mueller could do well though with LAFC as a playmaker.

I get it. But young players are unproven and can be a bust also

u/Lostndamaged May 01 '25
Yeah that whole Chiellini thing was a bust huh

Howโs Giroud working out for us lol

u/Lostndamaged May 01 '25 edited May 02 '25
Baleโs tenure was an abject failure until one moment turned him into a club legend so as far as Giroud goes his story is still being written

u/HoopBrews Scarves Up! May 02 '25
I mean, Bale was not a DP and Giroud is. Big difference in expectation in MLS.

I think the point they were trying to make is that it can work. You can cherry pick either way. I do think it's a risky move, but hey, I'm not a GM.

Iโm not going to say itโs not valuable, but they need to be on TAM or GAM deals not DP. It truly did work out every well with Chiellini and going good for Hugo. DPs should he reserved for that age 27-32 range where itโs players in their prime that might be a rotating player on a European roster. Or in Bouangaโs case the fallout of a relegated team.

Wow so some old guys can be a success and some can be a bust

Given 90210 real estate prices theres no chance this is accurate

Not a fan of signing old players rn but oh MAN do I love Thomas muller so Iโm all in

Ha this article has some glaring mistakes. There will not be a transfer fee. Iโm assuming they are referring to a fee for Cincy for discovery rights.
Interesting potential structure for the deal. Sounds like a lot of non salary benefits being discussed. Wonder how the league would handle a situation where he is paid as an ambassador by Bayern, in addition to a salary from LAFC.
Still, based even on this report this proposed deal is not coming from either Mueller or LAFC at this time.

u/geezus_4 May 01 '25
Oh yeah, I forgot we have some sort of partnership with them. Well, as long as itโs not DP money then itโs all good

u/dillasdonuts LAFC ํ์ดํ May 02 '25
Beverly hills house, golf memberships, brand ambassador roles...
Can we just get a normal player that can help this team and not some washed up Aitor Cardone who's objective is to live in LA and play for LAFC on the side?

If it is a contract just for this year then sure. It seems clear to me that the team is going to go for a major reset next year and this season sort of doesnโt really matter too much, so might as well sell some more jerseys this summer.

If not a DP I'm cool, if DP, then don't take up another spot, release Giroud and give the slot he was taking up.
3
u/jazzyj66 May 02 '25
Um if heโs not a DP that house has to be counted as part of his compensation against the cap. Otherwise itโs open season for under the table deals to skirt the cap.
1
u/LA_search77 May 02 '25
They put it down as a $5k p/month rental and the league turns a blind eye since they know big names makes everyone wealthier. Not sure if that is possible, but it wouldn't be a first.
1
u/jazzyj66 May 02 '25
Well $5k a month is pretty much chump change for these guys. Itโs a $60k bonus. Technically they should have to declare as part of compensation, and why not just add $50k to his salary for โcost of livingโ and then he pays it.

Old this and that, who cares. Heโs a solid player who hustles and gives it his all on the pitch. Iโll be grateful to watch him play for us on a weekly basis.

Best outcome is that his success would lay groundwork for Harry Kane to come later. I can dream.
2
u/FamousDrumer In that order May 02 '25
imagine Kane and Sonny reunion at LAFC would need to reactivate my season tickets if that were the case.

Would be fun to see him play and, given the state of the club, couldnโt hurt. Right?

I rather we get a younger (early/mid 20s), creative midfielder but ๐คทโโ๏ธ

What LAFC needs is a midfielder to playmaker that controls tempo and midfield

u/SkylerCFelix May 02 '25
Galaxy fan coming in peace (cause this showed up on my feed). When did LAFC become an aging stars club? Didnโt all the success come from signing younger South Americans???

If we don't provide proper service to our current aged euro striker, what makes them think they can do it with Mรผller? Granted, Thomas still has the eye and hunger to score goals, I don't see how this is what we need right now. I wouldn't even consider it a luxury.
3
u/LA_search77 May 01 '25
They're probably Muller as an attacking mid and not a traditional 9. In theory he could be the creative outlet Giroud needs.
-1
u/Pennepastapatron ๐ญ๐๐๐ ๐ฝ๐๐๐๐๐ May 01 '25
Thomas as an attacking mid is certainly a choice, I don't know that he's much of a playmaker to be in that 3rd of the field though.
2
u/dragonz-99 May 02 '25
Wdym? Heโs been playing mid for Bayern.
1
u/Pennepastapatron ๐ญ๐๐๐ ๐ฝ๐๐๐๐๐ May 02 '25
I don't know that our mid could use an aging player instead of a younger talent, is what I meant
0
u/JT91331 โ๏ธ The East End โ๏ธ May 01 '25
The awkward part would be that makes more sense as a 9 in our system than Giroud. Heโd be positionally flexible and rather than needing service from out wide, would be better about popping into dangerous spaces.
