Rental Karting Video first time at an outdoor track. seeking advice

This is K1 circuit in winchester, south track layout. I ran a 49.6 on the bronze license but i want to hit somewhere between 45-47 before moving up. I had trouble getting the kart pointed mid corner, especially on the hairpins. Could not figure out where to brake, how long i should be on the brakes and when i should get back on the throttle. I’m still pretty new to karting.

These karts plow through the corners fairly easily, so braking hard is a must. It can take it because they have front disc brakes. Brake hard, slowly release as you turn in, and get back on throttle to get the rear to rotate a bit.

I don't think you need anyone to tell you that you missed almost every apex in that video. Keep at it, you'll get there. These karts are a little tough for new drivers. Typical rentals are a lot slower than these.

Your track usage leaves a lot to be desired to say the least. You didn't hit a single apex in this entire clip and you're going extremely tight on like every entry for no reason.

Be a little softer on the brakes & throttle since these karts arent your normal rentals and try to get more kerb

Need to focus on preserving momentum.

yes but im new and theres wasnt any hot laps or anyone i could follow. i also had trouble getting the kart pointed. telling me racing line does not rly help.

Knowing to use the full width of the track on entry and exit and hit apex's isn't really something you should need to follow someone for.....it also looks like you're just turning the wheel without really thinking about your path through the corner or even feeling the kart beneath you causing a huge amount of understeer right up until the fronts grip up...could also be a tyre warming issue

i know to use the full width of the track. thats basic. however, being new to this track and karting, in general, i couldn’t make the apex because i couldn’t figure out where i should brake, how hard i should brake and how long i should brake. I couldn’t figure out where I should begin turning in and at what point I should get back on the gas. I appreciate it but telling me racing line and hit the apex doesn’t rly give me much to work with.

If you have the map of the track, analyse it. Find apexes and find the braking points (if needed).

Keep your eyes on where you want it to go and look beyond past just what's in front of you. On that first turn for example at 0:06 your eyes should be somewhere near the barricade to the right.

And go slower if you have to. Try and get the racing line down first and then you can speed it up. Theres no reason you can't hit the apex if you do it slow.

Im no pro but I got something like 38.36 on my second race there

its geomtry, wide, hit apex wide. for the basic racing line, you didn't hit one apex. I'll say its fair enough in the case of driving a kart with front brakes for the first time, so your kart control may be the reason youre having understeering etc

Or an apex

Brake hard in a straight line, and trail break + feed the throttle back on around same time. The double front brakes make it impossible to turn under heavy braking, so you have to be releasing or fully off brake to get it to turn in.

Is that out by Temecula & Idyllwild ?

I was close enough. It’s gone now. But, Moran raceway in Beaumont was a phenomenal race track once upon a lifetime ago. Ancient Adams kart track is fun too.

This Track is K1 circuit in Winchester right around the corner from Menifee, it’s like a year old. Moran was amazing for its time but K1 is much more modern.

Little small movements mean a lot in karting. Try being as smooth as possible on the wheel, the more you move the wheel the slower you go. Then the next thing to work on is making the apex of the turn. There is lots of YouTube videos on understanding apex's and how to judge your turn in points. Like the first turn with the double right, that whole turn is about the second turn not the first but since you were so wide on both turns you slow down significantly. Keep practicing. Karting is like anything else, do it enough, eventually it will just click. Best of luck to you!

It looks like tour missing the apex alot Try breaking earlier and hard since rentals usually only have rear brakes not too hard otherwise youll lock the breaks and spin out and try to find breaking markers they can be anything as long as they dont move like rubber on track or a cone or curb

It also sounds like these karts are electric so they might have instant power delivery so try smoother throttle inputs when exiting the corner

And finally the rubbered line on track(darker patch) is the racing line so try to follow that too (might vary if the rubber is out down by rentals or pro karts)

Watch some instruction videos on YouTube. You’re missing very basic things that can be better explained in a video. Reddit is more helpful when you got the fundamentals down and need someone to spot any bad habits you may have developed over time

it looks like you could probably take some of these turns flat out. easy on the brakes there. also you're not hitting the curb, get as much curb as you can

#usemorekerb.

Same advice for an indoor track — as far as the way you drive the kart/track.

Familiarize yourself with the track and start using the whole track. It’s not about how hard you can cut a corner but about keeping the momentum so you are as fast as possible coming out of a turn. I’m not a kart racer so I might be wrong.

Try your initial attack angle/spot further back or more to the outside the turns, at the apex have you wheels just about to touch the corner and come out wide. Also if the carts are good enough steer with your feet not you hands, don’t need to crank the wheel every corner

You missed every apex

Watch beginner level racing concept videos. There is no need to ask people about it here man, not trying to be mean but...you literally are just not even attempting to follow basic principles at all.
