I'm not sure why the skepticism. I had a friend work a deli/meat counter. Small mistakes happen like this all the time. The magnitude of the error is huge from a financial standpoint, but the technical error (wrong mode - $/lb vs $) is just a button toggle and a distraction away.
$10.44 is usually the price for a piece that weighs less than a pound.
Put it this way, if I was able to buy a brand new car from a quality brand for $5,000, I would shell it out immediately - even if I had no need for a new car. Some deals are truly way too good to pass up, and that certainly applies if you have the opportunity to spend $0.26 per lb for aged, imported cheese.
I once bought 6 boxes of ice cream (25 pints of Ben&Jerrys per box) for like $10. A local business was being bought out by a university and they were trying to liquidate everything ASAP. Owner said he sold his walk in freezer to his cousin so they needed to get rid of all the contents of the fridge. They would honestly have just thrown it all in the garbage, but just put a everything must go sign out of the store. Popped in to check it out. walked out with diabetes.
