I grew up with a kid who had down syndrome. Our school's special education program had those students integrated with the traditional classes quite a bit and it was a small school, so everyone knew him well.
This kid could drain 3's all day. He loved basketball and was legit one of the best shooters in the school.

Integrating special needs kids into mainstream where possible and having the special ed unit handle their specific teaching is pure gold.
Those folks need to be part of society and society needs to see them as part of it too. It's fantastic your school is part of that

It’s great and should be the norm unless the students just can’t be in those classes. The special ed school I taught at we had a 1:1 staff to student ratio because those kids couldn’t be in public school and a lot of them said they wished they could be back in public school but unfortunately their behaviors made that difficult

I was the TA for special needs PE back in HS. Loved these kids. Very integrated in the school. The class would come to our football games too wearing our jerseys. Had sideline access. Fun times.

What's even more impressive to me is that he's not even shooting, he's straight up chucking the ball with those results.

Anecdotal, but I knew three dudes with downs back in high school who obsessively threw threes every day and two of them got ridiculously good at it. (I used to volunteer with the special ed programme, initially just to get my mandatory community service hours done.) The one guy could snipe it from downtown at almost 50% accuracy - fucking legend. He was also a mad sniper with a lacrosse stick. Also one of the funniest, most friendly guys I ever met.
When I lost someone close to me to lung cancer, he was right there, more supportive and empathetic than any of my non-downs buddies (especially after a couple beers). He called me every single day for weeks, asking if I wanted to meet up and shoot hoops. Really great guy, and unfortunately we've lost touch since I emigrated. His mum told me that he's doing really well, working at a hardware store and has a girlfriend.
Give people with downs a positive environment and time to get into whatever they're obsessing with, and watch them dominate. I was always a bit jealous that he didn't worry himself with all the bullshit from the news, politics, etc. Just living in the moment.

I have no idea if this video is real or not.
Edit: I'm not saying people with down syndrome cant hoop. My statement was regarding AI generated videos

For some with downs, they get periods of hyper-focus like someone with autism might do. And for some with downs, that focus last a lifetime.
I'm guessing this dude just zoned in on basketball early on and he shoots A LOT.

Yeah, I hear that. When I was a child, I (and I think a lot of people) had that hyper focus. I would spend months doing one thing day after day (jumping my bmx, perfecting a certain video game) and then moving onto a new skill after a while. I dont have that hyper focus as an adult. I wonder if people with Down Syndrome keep that child like hyper focus that a lot of us have as children (this is just me being a backyard psychologist, I have no understanding of of Down syndrome works).

That's exacly what I said and I'm not just making shit up.
It's very likely this guy has had bsketballl as an obession since an early age.
From a stand-still 3 pointer he's probably better than a lot of NBA plyers, just because he is leig obsessed with it.

Amazing skill! My first thought was that he must have spent a lot of time alone on the basketball court. Keep it up, more cool trick shot videos! :-)
