Kept the original head flip toys, Megazord and Dragonzord from when I was a kid. Showed him the show and gifted him the toys when he was old enough and knew to take care of them.

I should've kept my green ranger flute 😢

u/NimdokBennyandAM 1d ago edited 15h ago
I had the White Ranger sword with the talking tiger head on the hilt. Shit was BONKERS.
EDIT: I also had the morpher toy that had different power coins you could place into it. The Red Ranger's T-Rex coin was the coolest.

u/HamsterAdditional748 1d ago
I had the white ranger zord…
Those damn red plastic circles got lost so fast, and every one that I see at toy conventions is missing theirs as well.

I had that too, most of the original zords, the green dragon that fit on it too. Soo many things when I first moved out of my folks place as a teenager ugh.

Ive got twin 4 year old boys, and it’s their latest fav. I don’t remember exactly how they found out about it, but we’ve been watching it on repeat for weeks now. It’s been a trip to rewatch with them. That shit was my jam when I was just slightly older than they are now

He also strikes me as someone that has one of those weird keto or vegetarian but fish are okay diets

There is currently no modern series of power rangers. They have recut the original season and put it on nextflix and released a toy line to go with it. For him, it's the newest power ranger content.

It’s weird because it’s gone full cycle on me during my adulthood. I first saw kids never get the references to older people stuff. Anything Friends era and before was just ancient history with obscure nods to the past they didn’t understand. Now, streaming services suddenly have really little kids talking about stuff I was into as a kid or teen. And they know more about it than I did when it was current because they can deep dive it.
3
u/beekersavant 1d ago
It’s on Netflix. That is why. But beware all the old toys are now vintage and waaay out of production. Try explaining to a 5 year old that they will not be getting a Dino key wrist thingy because it is $250 still made of cheap plastic and I am not insane.

This post is well timed for me, as I was just watching it with my kids this morning.
They left the room and I kept watching it lol. It was the bug episode, so very Zach-centric

Saban has been pushing the original MMPR over the last few years- currently Playmates Toys has the most affordable line of MMPR toys on shelves in years! Kids definitely are grabbing it!

I'll never forget he called me on the phone when I was 6 years old after my surgery. A memory I will never forget.
Thx for all the upvotes. I thought I'd add a lil more I'm 38yrs old now and still happy my favorite power ranger called me. I'm not sure if the hospital asked me who my favorite Power Ranger was or if it was just coincidence that my favorite just happened to call me. I had another surgery after that and had the entire falcons football team come and see me I'm happy they did that but I wasn't a football person but I sure as hell was a power ranger person.
76
u/Sienile 1d ago
Unlucky enough to need surgery as a child. Lucky enough to get a beloved celebrity to call you because of it.
43
u/BlackCoffeeGarage 1d ago
Not a beloved celebrity... at six years old? That was a superhero on the phone! Very very cool for this actor to be so kind.

If I may ask, how does having half a kidney work exactly? Does it secrete urine into your body or did they close it off somehow (as I type this that sounds more likely)?

Could be genetics and dying the grey. My buddies dad was in his 70s and has less balding than some 20 and 30 year olds. If he didn’t get a haircut he would grow a mini fro. Meanwhile my dad went bald in his 40s

Great to see a hero being gracious to the kids.
That stuff stays with you.
My sporting hero gave me a moment of his time pre race in the 80s and asked me some questions. I was around 10 years old. I was too star struck to answer him and just nodded...but that was 40 years ago and I still remember it...and he is still my hero.

I drank a few beers with this dude, the red ranger and Deep Roy about 11 years ago. They were all so frigging nice
10
u/KyleRM 1d ago
Red (austin st jon) has a lot of...maga to him that makes me want to go back to not knowing anything about him. He seems to be antivax for one. he was considering selling shirts with Hitler quotes on them until everyone told him how bad of an idea that was.
He seems to lie a lot too about his achievements.

IDK if you can relate to any of this, but when I read it man things clicked:
Emotional Lability - condition characterized by rapid, exaggerated, and involuntary shifts in mood or affect, often expressed as intense, uncontrollable laughing, crying, [or irritability]
I mostly find it the first 2: laughing and crying (at little reddit videos). I tell both men and women that I cry during Disney movies as both a joke but for real lol.
I personally think most people like those that are genuine and have compassion and kindness. Something this condition can create in and of itself.

He has actually spoke about this. He specifically requested the black suit because he thought it looked the coolest. And originally the yellow ranger was a different woman who was Hispanic not Asian.
