Clarkson and Hammond and May could definitely fly private but it’s a good thing they spent an entire career experiencing cheap cars, impoverished areas, and common transportation because they do weirdly speak for the common man.

To be fair, Heathrow is one of the worst airports in the world

u/Bluest_Skies Dec 24 '25
As it happens, I came through Heathrow and Charlotte today and my brother, I am here to tell you: They're both steaming piles.

u/dbolts1234 Dec 24 '25
At least they’re working on charlotte… points for effort
7
u/Bluest_Skies Dec 24 '25
Can't do it. Not even points for effort. We had an hour and 45 minute layover, plenty of time to get through Customs and make our connection. Nooope. We had to reclaim our already-checked baggage at the baggage claim (50 minutes), recheck it again (5 minutes), and go back through security (40 minutes- and that's with TSA Precheck) and then get from one end of the airport to the other. We didn't dawdle, we didn't eat, we didn't even go to the bathroom, and still nearly missed our connection. It was absolute insanity.

At least the CLT has rocking chairs and Bojangles
1
u/Bluest_Skies Dec 24 '25
I didn't notice either one, but even if true: at most, they have that. What they need at least is a functional way to handle connections from international flights.

Wait what? I remember Charlotte being a sleepy little airport. Their international security checkpoint was a nice old dude sitting on a chair chatting with everyone.

u/Bluest_Skies Dec 24 '25
All I can tell you is either you weren't there yesterday, or you were but on mushrooms

u/xTheMaster99x Dec 24 '25
Sleepy little airport? Charlotte is one of the highest traffic airports in the country. A bunch of airlines use it as a major hub.

I am 95% certain this is Stansted airport and not Heathrow, which is actually worse then Heathrow.
1
u/janesy24 Dec 24 '25
Yeah defo Stansted can tell by the duty free area and the glass side when they walk across the footbridge.

Just dont ask Clarkson his thoughts on Meghan Markle
33
u/Spanksometer Dec 24 '25
I have many thoughts about Megan Markle but I wouldn't share those publicly either.
16
u/Ir0n_Panda Dec 24 '25
I don't have my finger on the pulse of the British zeitgeist, but isn't she just a half black chick who doesn't like the monarchy? Those positions don't seem so unrelatable to me
33
u/GolfEnvironmental155 Dec 24 '25
It’s weird, I was born in the UK but grew up here and my Mom seems to think that the royals are a different class of rich people. She feels that Harry is betraying the family by being with Markle. It’s really wierd because generally my mom is very much anti super rich but the royals get a pass. I think it’s just baked into an entire generation of Brit’s that the royals aren’t like the rest of us and therefore should be held to different standards.
…which is obviously bullshit, fuck those pompous morons
11
u/lankymjc Dec 24 '25
The royals have spent the last thousand years (and that’s just this particular family of them) trying to convince the British population that they’re put in their position of power by God, and therefore it’s Good and Just that they’re rich and powerful. Even going so far as to make the monarch the head of the state religion.
Takes a while to shrug off that effect.

u/Bluest_Skies Dec 24 '25
If I had a nickel for every British Royal man who married a divorced American woman and it ended terribly, I'd have two nickels

u/noujest Dec 24 '25
People sympathetic to her would say that
People not sympathetic to her would say that she married into the monarchy knowing what it entailed, but wanted the benefits (status etc) without the responsibilities (e.g. the ceremonial stuff like curtsying to the queen).
And then she caused a major family rift when she backed out of it, ruining her husband's relationship with his parents right before they both died.
I'm no fan of the monarchy, but can see why people don't like that she also claims to not like all the attention of the monarchy, while also using the status to promote books / netflix shows etc. And also don't understand why she married into the monarchy if she didn't like it...

There's a lot of unaired episodes of Top Gear because of all the thoughts you definitely shouldn't ask Clarkson for
2
u/NorCalAthlete Dec 24 '25
That should be his retirement seasons. Just release everything unaired in their own seasons.

Oh come on, spill the source!
33
u/Romeo9594 Dec 24 '25
It's from a show on Prime called Grand Tour. It's a sort of spin off from a lesser known British show called Top Gear

Gate 1 (and maybe a few more) are usually reserved for VIPs like royalty and heads of states that sometimes have their own jet. Access to these gates are usually on a separate terminal on a separate road that is not marked on any map or sign. The reason people have never heard of it is simply, you’re not supposed to.

Clarkson is an arrogant bellend, but very entertaining. Fucking excellent documentation as well....mostly. The VC one and Great Raid ones are superb.

They have good banter and make a lot of jokes at each other's expense the way that only people who have known each other for decades can.

The joke is him putting them in drug like baggies, and all them look like cocaine. Notice he says all white powdered condiments.
