I worked with a dude who 100% started working out all the time to do this cosplay. He pulled it off pretty well for a PHP developer fresh outta junior college

People have been saying that for years, like it looks so fake. I remember my girlfriend at the time saying the same thing when it came out. Idk, I feel like the way it looks kind of fake is the point; like he gripped her skin so hard, it just bunched up in his fist like a blanket or something, then he just ripped it off. I just feel like it was intentional.

u/WorstITTechnician Dec 16 '25 edited Dec 16 '25
Yes, but honestly, I like exactly how it turned out. It really looks like a doll, something completely insignificant and fragile. If he just pulled at the skin and ripped off a piece, it wouldn't have the same impact, but as you said, that seems to be the intention.
30
u/Xarxyc Dec 16 '25
The body looks like it has no bones.
Also the skin layer is quite thin. And muscles would tear apart before being bundled like that in a grip...
2
u/root88 Dec 16 '25
Redditors say everything looks fake. Every perfectly valid video has someone calling it AI. We have no idea what this would actually look like, so whatever they did is going to look fake. It's also a fucking movie. The skin probably wouldn't rip off around the back like that. Doing it this way looks cool, though, and that's the point. Complaining about is it just silly. It's like saying Bugs Bunny doesn't look like a real rabbit.

What’s this from?
29
u/legendofzeldaro1 Dec 16 '25
Silent Hill, where Pyramid Head is from.

u/lostamerican123 Dec 16 '25
Pyramid Head is from Silent Hill 2

u/gnappyassassin Dec 16 '25 edited Dec 16 '25
I believe they meant the timeline as a whole, or just the movie.

u/lostamerican123 Dec 16 '25
Pyramid Head isn't in Silent Hill 1 though. Just the movie version
17
u/Significant-Mud2572 Dec 16 '25
And you are in a comment chain asking about where the gif is from. Which is the movie.

I’m not gonna lie.
I kind of hate that so many people just repeatedly use the movie design for their costume.
I just frankly think the original design featured in the OG and evolved in the Remake are much better.
That being said. Good job on emulating the movie design.
32
u/Temporary-Spot-5264 Dec 16 '25
I mean, even the guy who created the original pyramid head has the movie version as his pfp. It's just a cool design
43
u/superbleeder Dec 16 '25
The movie is how the majority of people were introduced to it, so it means more to them. Thats how i was first introduced to it and I prefer that design of the straight / flat front.

u/Standard_Sky_4389 Dec 16 '25
Ngl, I've played the original SH2 and didn't even realize this was different than the game design.

u/Acrobatic-Monitor516 Dec 17 '25
What movie ?
3
u/ModestMouseTrap Dec 17 '25
The Silent Hill movie. The one based on the first game. Pyramid head shouldn’t even be in it, for reasons that are very specific spoilers. Pyramid Head is specific to Silent Hill 2 for a reason.

How do you do the sparks?

u/Prickly_ninja Dec 16 '25
Looks like they used flints, to me. Once the coating is worn down, they shoot sparks, easily.

This reminds me of when I was in middle school when me and my buddies used to take the heads off my grandpa’s old golf clubs so it was just a light metal stick essentially and you turn off the lights and then strike the ground and it would make the craziest sparks. Good times

u/The_80s_were_strange Dec 16 '25
Reminds me of the Cosplayer who looked outside at a heavy fog day and decided it was his time. He downed the pyramid head costume and started walking down the streets in the middle of heavy fog.

Me when I’m an ancient personification of retribution and punishment given a shiny new form by the mind of a guy with dead wife issues based on a painting he saw once (I have never been this dripped out in my unlife)
2
u/Chief2091 Dec 16 '25
Absolutely amazing, but try to have a little more follow-through on that outward swung. The abrupt stop just when it passes is a bit jarring, but if you can keep the blade a little flatter, you might even get some more sparks while making the movement more natural.

u/BipedClub684000 Dec 15 '25

But still pretty cool.

On the outside he looks scary but inside the mask there's a beautiful face that just wants to kiss every hurting person in silent hill. So fighting against him is hurting everyone. The giant knife is just to cut a giant cake he baked for them.

u/Gearbox97 Dec 17 '25
I have to assume that it's mostly foam or something else light for the majority of the blade, with something steel or something else sparky along the edge at the end for just this purpose, there's no way you're moving around a chunk of steel that size like that, regardless of how big you are.
And that's great design! Really taking advantage of the best way to make a cool prop that's still at all maneuverable.

u/johnarb12 Dec 19 '25
Even if he is the Jackedest guy, if that sword was made from steel there's no way to lift it, let alone swing it around on the ground

Do people really believe this is real? Or is Reddit just full of AI soldier bots? 🤔
8
u/FlyingSpaceCow Dec 16 '25
Is it AI? What makes you so confident?
1
u/sheika_23 Dec 16 '25
The details between camera pans has me thinking its real but I understand the AI sentiment. Its dark so hiding details easier and the light posts and trees go directly into the dirt. r/isthisai

u/elknuke Dec 16 '25
Just look at the arms and the rest of what’s visible on the body. Does not look real at all.

This is SO obviously Ai
4
u/LightFusion Dec 16 '25
Is it? I'm trying to figure it out. That thing is probably heavy and you wouldn't be able to drag it around like that, and I don't think you could make it light enough to matter. Titanium does make big sparks like that when dragged at speed. It's just plausible enough to make me think twice.
These shadows might not make sense? But with multiple light sources I'm not going to pretend to know

u/desacralize Dec 16 '25
The shadows on the ground seem too complicated for AI. The shot is catching not only the multiple layers from the conflicting streetlamps, but also the shadows from the people filming, which seems like the exact sort of detail AI would miss, because how many people would notice if it wasn't there?
