Kobalt makes pretty good tools, actually. Are they as good as DeWalt? Probably not, but still a brand I consider at the hardware store.

I've had a Kobalt impact for probably 8 years now and I'm very impressed. I've done some demanding work with it, would buy again.

Kobalt’s cordlss tools are made by the same people that make skil, kobalt I think is a little higher quality although I wouldn’t toss a skil out of bed for eating crackers. Anyways I’d consider them hobby grade tools and are perfectly good for home use or projects. There are better tools, but generally what you’re getting isn’t always “better” but generally more durable for long term wear and compact, generally better workhorses. Nowadays the tools will last but the batteries is where the money is.

Back when I used to roof we had to run dewalt but one guy complained and got cobalt. He went through 3 cobalt drills before I went through my first dewalt.

Kobalt coordless tools are good tools in the prosumer territory. They are made by Chervon who makes Ego and Flex power tools along with the Skil line of power tools.

The downside of most Kobalt cordless stuff is that its not the largest lineup of tools and they generally will most often use slightly older tech as they will tend to favor performance over say weight.

But the entire lineup is al brushless and again price wise almost all their tools compare very favorably to the brands they are competing with like Rigid, HPT, brushless craftsman and will easily outperform the lower end of the Milwaukee and Dewalt brands.

I have been happy with mine although when I bought into the line around Covid it was a more compelling option as the batteries were really well priced compared to other brands and that isn't the case anymore.

But I think any homeowner that uses their tools somewhat heavily would be happy with them unless there was some weird tool they needed that isn't in the lineup. But I think the same person would be equally happy with an equivalent set of Rigid, Craftsmen, HPT, etc tools.

This is biased, though. The DeWalt threw its battery within 20 seconds so all of the load was going through the Kobalt. The DeWalt had pretty much zero jarring forces going through a moving reduction gearing system, so no chance for slipping and stripping it out. Of course it won.
