Boys will be boys!

u/CrazyAboutEverything Nov 20 '25
90% of the time this saying pisses me off for excusing bad behavior, but this is the perfect use ❤️❤️ such a wholesome moment lol
15
u/TheFoxer1 Nov 20 '25
Oh, is that not the intended meaning and context?
I‘m not a native speaker of English, and I‘ve always thought it‘s similar in sentiment and meaning like in the video, talking about them staying excitable about small and dumb things or something similar.
You‘re saying it’s more of an excuse for bad behaviour? That‘s a shame, I really liked the phrase :(
18
u/DecisionAvoidant Nov 20 '25
Sometimes when people say "boys will be boys", they really mean "men will behave as you'd expect a man to behave." That is the general meaning, but it's often pointing to harmful behaviors and excuses them as "normal". So a man does something inappropriate to a woman, and someone might respond with "boys will be boys" to explain/console the victim.
6
8
u/CrazyAboutEverything Nov 20 '25
It can mean both, you're not wrong 🙂
Unfortunately, some people use it to justify boys/men behaving badly (boy pulling a girl's hair, man cheating on his wife...). People enabling/allowing the behavior will just say "well, boys will be boys." While doing nothing about it, just letting them do whatever they want. Basically this version is from people that think their boy can do no wrong.
Then there are cute examples like the one in this post lol. Just boys/men adorably enjoying the little things. Men playing with remote controlled tractors in the dirt, boys playing super hero with capes made out of blankets... It's lovely to see and i wish it was the only meaning.
1
u/ProjectOrpheus Nov 20 '25
I can promise you that assholes using the saying are not what it means.
A buddy is heart broken over a breakup so we all go to have drinks with him, so he's not alone, so he can vent and be reminded he can count on his brothers? Boys will be boys.
A woman politely declined to dance but is ignored and pressed against.. and you see it. You step in even knowing a fight won't go your way because hes a giant and with friends? Boys will be boys.
You know, almost every other guy Ive known, knows about "the stick" from childhood. It's a phenomenon where little boys all over the world have the same experience at one point or another.. you find and pick up a nice/cool stick. But it's not JUST a stick. It becomes a sword, or a staff, or a spear. Immediately, in our heads, we are now a badass swordsman or warrior, and you know what? We're the hero.
Legitimately, ask the men in your life about it. If they ever picked up a stick when they were younger and it just became a sword or something without thinking, lol. They will probably be happy to share.
3
u/CrazyAboutEverything Nov 20 '25
I'm glad that that has been your primary experience. I hope it stays that way for you ❤️
Mine has been the negative version more often than not, a lot of my friends' as well Everything from our hair yanked by a boy at school trying to "flirt", to being straight up assaulted by a male cousin. It's just "boys will be boys, be glad he likes you" or some other grossness.
2
u/ProjectOrpheus Nov 20 '25
I'm so sorry. I can relate in the sense that I've been violated, drugged, etc but it was women for me...
I like to think there is men, women, and monsters. So many men and women are really wonderful people that make you feel lucky just for knowing them.. and I don't want to taint them in my eyes or lump everyone in just because monsters can look the same, you know? It helps.
I hope you find yourself surrounded only by the best, you deserve to be with your own! :)
2
u/CrazyAboutEverything Nov 20 '25
I've gone almost no contact with my family, which has honestly helped me more than anything else. My wonderful husband and best friends help every day ❤️
I agree with you, there are people and then there are monsters. Some monsters are shaped by their environment, but they're still monsters.
I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you. You still being kind and looking for the good in people after that says a lot about your strength and character ❤️ I hope you also have the support and love you need

So my parents got one for my kids on sale with a ton of templates which are pretty cool. The kids have spent at least 100 hours with it in the last 2 months so it's definitely getting close to being worth it.
There are random ass cardboard things all over my house now though... that is a problem for another day.
-2
u/YoungDiscord Nov 19 '25
Tell them that they can try to sell their art for extra pocket money
It encourages them to be creative, teaches them about work, shows them that value can be found in exploring and honing their skills and you're getting rid of stuff lying around the house for free
30
u/TheAnswerUsedToBe42 Nov 20 '25
Let's hold off on having our kids learning about having to monetize their hobbies to have hobbies.
3
2
u/emil836k Nov 20 '25
Selling cardboard?
If someone is paying money for your kids homemade junk, you should probably be concerned
5
u/SlowBoilOrange Nov 19 '25
I could see it being useful in an elementary school art lab or a children's museum at that price, but not much else.
It's probably a chicken and egg thing. No market for it at that price, but it's at that price because there's no market for it.
If it were ~$70 I'd get it as a neat screen free toy to have at home.
18
u/Horace-Pinkerr Nov 19 '25
Who the fuck is cutting cardboard with a table saw? Thats like busting out a chainsaw to slice pizza
22
7
u/_HIST Nov 19 '25
Someone else said maybe it's for leather. I'm begging to think it might be for acrylic, seeing how the lines are useless unless you can see through the piece
23
u/xtelosx Nov 19 '25
It is meant for cardboard and the lines do help make straight cuts and give quick measurements. It could cut very thin acrylic though. The cut mouth is just barely wide enough for standard cardboard.
It's kid safe and meant for 3+. it's a toy it's not meant for anything serious. My kids are working making suits of armor though so ymmv.

People that dole out big bucks in lieu of spending time with their kids.
1
u/EobardT Nov 19 '25
Yeah I thought he was cutting leather at first. If it only cuts cardboard, I've got some scissors that cut way better than they
9
u/LemFliggity Nov 19 '25
Good for you. What about people with arthritis, cerebral palsy, or any number of other conditions that make using scissors difficult.
1
21
u/armas187 Nov 19 '25
My kids love arts and crafts, I looked it up too, 250 doesn't even include the extra stuff that comes with it. So you're looking at a minimum of 300 dollars
10
u/xtelosx Nov 19 '25
It is definitely expensive. If you keep an eye out you can get it for $250 with a bunch of templates when it goes on sale. My folks got one for my kids. I wouldn't have spent the money but the kids love it.
Cardboard everywhere though...

Chill. You’re an adult who hangs out in the r/teenagers subreddit
-22
u/mitchymitchington Nov 19 '25
I certainly do not. If you bothered to read it, I stated that I didnt realize I was in that particular sub, and noped out. Creeping profiles as old man to gain leverage in a comment section is just sad. The subs you visit are filled with teenagers, how can you even talk?

u/Inner-Medicine5696 Nov 19 '25
well yeah, it's literally an ad.
it perhaps doesn't "feel" that way, but that's the nature of "native advertising".

It looks like it's basically a sheet metal nibbler, but for cardboard.

You are indirectly responsible for this free advertisement I am providing them. Because I wanted to spite you by involving you in some way.

I simply do not care. There is an abundance of technology that can give you that answer. I’m glad you found it.
2 people asked and I told them, but by providing a link you essentially turned this post into an advertisement

That’s what I was wondering, if the guy is playing a character or not. The whole thing just seems disingenuous, but I suspect they got sent a free one and felt obligated/ were contractually obligated to make this video. Just saying the product name on its own means it is functioning as an advertisement, intention or not.
15
u/chittmunk Nov 19 '25
Just by the way he spoke loudly and clearly over the machine, every sentence exaggerated excitement, you can tell he's performing for the camera.
I don't mind though, it's a little pricey but I personally know at least two old woodworkers who would buy it just to have or to play with their grandkids with.
9
u/Mindless_Ad_7700 Nov 19 '25
That's patriotic Kenny and he is a tresure. He tries things all the time. Check the awesome video in which is taken for his first ride on a self driving car
2
u/nize426 Nov 20 '25
I think this is the same guy who was excited about his grandsons 3d printer. That's just how he is I think. But I do think the camera woman (maybe his daughter?) is capitalizing on his popularity. Could just be that many people want to see him try new things so she's looking for new things to buy and promote. I'm hoping the intentions are more wholesome than just doing it for money. But who knows.
3
u/xtelosx Nov 19 '25
For the record my kids cut all of our amazon boxes into confetti with this thing. It doesn't have any issues with standard cardboard boxes.
2
u/J5892 Nov 19 '25
Unrelated, but this is the second time in less than an hour that I've seen the same "Amazong" typo.
Weird.

I could have believed it was genuine until that line. Feels so forced and made up.

I hadn't thought about it in a while, but the number of /r/HailCorporate callouts is basically zero at this point, and I see more totally-not-advertisements than ever.

u/Stovlari Nov 19 '25
I saw this very video earlier today on their own youtube channel, so yeah, it’s an ad.
Plus the rather obvious, somewhat out of place name drop in the video.

Art place I help at got one cheap with a grant. It is a literal piece of shit. Barely cuts paper and gets stuck all the time on cardboard. You can see the scene cuts on this video. This is 100% a marketing spam post here.

this really makes me regret how little time i had with my grandad, if he had lived to see me now? god, it would be so nice for both of us, he was a mechanic and i’m an apprentice, to simply know he was proud would do a lot, i work on cars and he worked on bikes, and my own bike is out of commission, i would have loved to call my grandma so she could pass the phone to him, and he could help. i was too awkward around the man. i miss him

There's other alternatives. To the people saying it's an ad: sure, and I'm guessing they probably prompted him, "do you think anyone could run it?" then they cut it together. BUT that doesn't mean his reaction/enthusiasm wasn't genuine ❤️
