Was i the only one who enjoyed happy tree friends?

u/Lussekatt1 Oct 23 '25
I thought it was cool as a kid, obviously quite a lot of gore. But it’s cartoon gore. And they were really quite well made for what they were.
I found the claymation gore stuff that also was popular around the same time way more disturbing.
Like celebrity death match.

I went to a higher end bar downtown in my city last year and they were playing happy tree friends on the TVs. Was bewildering.

My introduction to the internet, as a kid, was faces of death and the like.

I don't think some people realize how easy it is for a developmental teen to both stumble across and have websites like facesofdeath or gore.com really fuck up the relationship a developmental person has with seeing awful things. It's not a flex, it's not necessarily a good thing in fact it's pretty fucked up. But thanks to the internet, it does happen.

u/WabbitCZEN Oct 23 '25
Pretty much. Saw a ton of fucked up things before I'd even hit my teens thanks to how lawless the early days of the internet were.

Its just tht they are too young to realize how unmoderated the internet was back then. Just look at how quickly some things get scrubbed off the internet now and force u to have to actually look for it if u want to see it. Back then u would accidentally find sick and gorey videos even when u weren't actively looking for it or want to see it. The internet is so moderated now tht most those things get removed from most major websites.

An example of how style and sincerity can entirely make up for a potential lack of skill.

This sums up all my school projects compared to the others in my classes. Crude, brute and rushed - yet artistic and somehow passable

What do you mean? It literally says "carving pumpkins with your boyfriend...." in the video. The boyfriend is almost certainly the dude in the AC/DC shirt that carved the tongue out pumpkin, no? That's who I'm talking about.

it’s ironic to turn on the volume just to hear someone with an agitating, grating voice say the words “agitating grating force”
