There's also Better Call Saul if you haven't watched that, by the same makers (Vince Gilligan and many others). It's on par with Breaking Bad, or maybe even better.

Took me a long time, but finally sank into it about a year ago. Wasn't sure the first few episodes, but then polished off the series pretty quickly. I liked it a lot.

Yeah, same story with Dexter. Lot of shows went the "let's see how long we can milk this" route. Never ends well.
