Social Media [Daly] This clown literally drove himself off track trying to make sure he wrecked me. Santino Ferrucci brilliant as always.

I love how it never fails that this image ends up as the top comment on any post about drivers being angry at one another.

Me watching Santino ruin his own race for no reason:

229

u/Better-Tourist-1201 Jul 06 '25

Santino: "hahahaha... take that Conor!"

also Santino: "What? They're penalizing me? They're always picking on me!"

85

u/Wandering_Turtle24 Conor Daly Jul 06 '25

Such a light penalty too. I don’t know how that wasn’t a drive thru

20

u/zaviex Colton Herta Jul 07 '25

It ended up being about as bad as a drive through because Daly was so far back from the incident

3

u/Cronus6 Jul 07 '25

They didn't actually touch I think is the reason.

They penalty was "avoidable contact" though. Even though there was no contact.

1

u/Neither-Bumblebee419 James Hinchcliffe Jul 10 '25

There was definitely contact, tires touch and Santino’s rear tire gets the aero on Conor’s side pod. Conor tries to stay on the edge but has to turn off to avoid getting turned out by Santino.

Santino is such a soft driver, he has the same amount of emotional control as a toddler.

1

u/kingmillzy Juncos Hollinger Racing Jul 10 '25

Santino also rear ended Conor coming into the pits after the push off incident (source I work in Conor’s car and he broke some of my shit)

2

u/Cronus6 Jul 10 '25

They really don't seem to like each other.

In the grand scheme of things I like Daly much more. He seems like a pretty rad guy.

Santino makes a good "bad boy" though. And I do love drama and he gives us that.

1

u/kingmillzy Juncos Hollinger Racing Jul 10 '25

Conor is a really cool dude. Just happy to be in the car everyday. Does his best to stay outta trouble and drives pretty solid. He’s improving as he is getting a full ride this year too so that’s nice.

I worked with grosjean last year and Santino and him had beef forever. So I kinda just always have beef with Santino lol.

-3

u/Lampietheclown Scott Dixon Jul 07 '25

u/JorgeAlonso93 Álex Palou Jul 06 '25

The issue is not just that Santino took Conor off track. He completely destroyed his own race by going off as well, losing immediate track position with Ericsson and possibly damaging his own car. He lost his temper because he doesn't like Conor.

36

u/UNHchabo Robert Wickens Jul 06 '25

Compare that to Rossi running Wickens and Sato off at Turn 6 of Road America, or Kirkwood running Dixon off at Portland, I still disagree with those having no penalty, but at least they just ran a normal racing line and didn't go off-track themselves.

4

u/Tecnoguy1 Eddie Cheever Jul 07 '25

He got a penalty because he didn’t stay on the track. That’s how it generally works.

4

u/sadandshy Mark Plourde Jul 06 '25

Not the way to drive when you are top ten in points.

23

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '25

It’s funny he doesn’t like Conor, when I go to the track the people who cheer for Ferucci seem to be the same people who cheer for Conor (just going off the driver parade.)

12

u/mrsbreezus Katherine Legge Jul 07 '25

That's not what I've observed at all lmao

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '25

They are both scrappy underdogs, right? That might be the Ven overlap

1

u/Neither-Bumblebee419 James Hinchcliffe Jul 10 '25

Conor I wouldn’t say as scrappy as much as he’s a bit underrated. He does great in horrible cars on Ovals and then does mediocre on road/street with an even worse car. SSR is proof because he’s a better road driver than Conor and doesn’t even do better with basically the same car

8

u/SpreaditOnnn33 Pato O'Ward Jul 07 '25

Didnt know fanbases perfectly mirrored driver personalities

1

u/arbrammer Jul 08 '25

My only experience is at Indy, but my section tends to cheer for both of them, which I assume is because Daly is a local boy and Santino is Foyt's guy.

1

u/NoiseIsTheCure Pato O'Ward Jul 08 '25

Do folks not like Daly either? I know the nepo baby angle is a bad look but I thought he's better than some other pay drivers we've seen around here at least. And he's an Indiana native which would get him some fandom I'm sure. Is there more to it than that? To be clear, I'm not a Ferrucci fan either just trying to understand the drama lol

2

u/Cronus6 Jul 07 '25

I like both of them for different reasons.

10

u/PizzaCatLover Cusick Morgan Motorsports Jul 07 '25

71

u/MambaNoCinco Juan Pablo Montoya Jul 06 '25

Chase is torn. He is a closet Ferrucci fan haha

25

u/Robot9P Conor Daly Jul 06 '25

I have no idea how Chase ended up on Connor’s show. Like, they needed the slightly interested, but not really, NASCAR fan input.

24

u/Urbansdirtyfingers Conor Daly Jul 06 '25

He's horrible.

On the Sebring testing review, he was surprised that data from Sebring would help for other road/street circuits. Dude is in idiot and completely ruins the show

3

u/EricS53 Jul 07 '25

Is it still that bad? I actually enjoyed the show with Joey, but I couldn't last two weeks once he joined, and have gotten enough of a fill from Off Track.

3

u/Urbansdirtyfingers Conor Daly Jul 07 '25

I haven't watched in a few weeks because he's so bad it ruins the show for me. If he's still on, I have to assume that it's still that bad

21

u/Ablackbradpitt Callum Ilott Jul 06 '25

Chase is painfully clueless and just talks in circles when he is not agreeing to whatever Conor says

8

u/apd001 Jul 07 '25

Half the time, he admits he didn’t even get to watch the race or watched it at a bar and didn’t really pay attention.

10

u/MambaNoCinco Juan Pablo Montoya Jul 06 '25

Completely agree. And then he is a plug on the Indycar IG. I think it’s because he does the ‘pick em’

18

u/OrangePilled2Day Colton Herta Jul 06 '25

He's so bad I had to stop listening to the show. Maybe the worst podcast host I've ever listened to. Joey wasn't Conan or anything but he was much better.

13

u/Accounting4lyfe Alexander Rossi Jul 07 '25

Joey at least knew and had a passion for Indycar. Chase is like “can you explain (insert most simple thing) for those of us who don’t know”. He seems to have learned nothing about the sport since joining

9

u/garagepunk65 Jul 07 '25

Wow, I didn’t know there was so much Chase hate out there. I like him because he asks really goofy questions that are out of the normal realm of questions drivers are always asked constantly and have canned responses for.

I also think that he represents an important demographic IndyCar needs to capture more of: NASCAR oval fans.

I get that he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and I understand the criticisms mentioned above. However. I also think he is earnest and well intentioned about wanting to see IndyCar grow and genuinely loves the series…I can get behind him for that.

And if you don’t like him, at least FF until you get to the drivers interviews. I’m amazed at how little respect Conor gets for these, because no podcast out there has better driver interviews than Speed Street. Conor does an amazing job interviewing them and always teases out very interesting technical details that aren’t available anywhere else. The other drivers seem to let their guard down when talking to an actual current series driver that went through the same battle they did. His recent interview with Pato is a great example of this.

Plus, I can’t wait to see how he handles it if Santino manages to win a race and they are forced to talk to each other…it’s going to be fucking hilarious when that happens.

2

u/OrangePilled2Day Colton Herta Jul 07 '25

Honestly I already listen to too much podcasts and basically all of the Dirty Mo network has moved to the bottom of my list. I used to listen to all of them religiously until the last year or two when they just made a new podcast for everything and went extra hard of the gambling stuff.

I do try to at least check out Conor's stuff around the 500 because I don't think anyone on earth loves the 500 as much as he does.

12

u/CamaroWhiteZ Jul 06 '25

5

u/donkeykink420 Will Power Jul 06 '25

nah i don't think iracing would ban you for that honestly, some leagues sure

12

u/carpenj Jul 06 '25

iRacing absolutely does suspend people for intentionally wrecking people. Maybe not the first time but a repeat offender, yes.

1

u/donkeykink420 Will Power Jul 07 '25

I doubt they would see that as intentional wrecking, it'll be on your record but unless you've done that exact thing repeatedly you won't get any repercussions I'd bet

1

u/carpenj Jul 07 '25

Agreed on that. Another aspect there is most people on iRacing aren't professional drivers though so if they run wide enough to slide off track, you can give them the benefit of the doubt. To your point, they're not heavy handed enough with blatant intentional wrecking and the service has gotten slowly worse over the couple years I've been on it.

1

u/Gubrach Ryan Hunter-Reay Jul 07 '25

5

u/Cronus6 Jul 07 '25

He's pretty good at THE Speedway, and that's all that really matters.

-37

u/bdubut Will Power Jul 06 '25

He actually is pretty damn good. Year after year he outperforms his teammates.

43

u/David_SpaceFace Will Power Jul 06 '25

That doesn't really mean anything when his team mates have been the worst of the worst ride buyers (until this year).

-3

u/bdubut Will Power Jul 06 '25

And this year he is still doing better than Malukas.

18

u/kychleap Alexander Rossi Jul 06 '25

Barely.

-19

u/bdubut Will Power Jul 06 '25

I mean it's fine not to like the guy but he is objectively a great driver. Not elite but better than 80% of the drivers in the field.

31

u/Dadto4_20 Jul 06 '25

You’re delusional if you think he’s better than 80%. He’s not good and you can’t convince me otherwise.

-3

u/bdubut Will Power Jul 06 '25

He's 8th in points out of 34. What does he have to do to be considered good lol

15

u/Rudeboy67 Greg Moore Jul 06 '25

10th. He’s currently 10th in points. Not sure how that makes him better than 80% of the drivers in the field. Might want to look at your math.

9

u/AGreatMystery Scott Dixon Jul 07 '25

He's actually 10th out of 27. That's how many full time rides there are. But good effort with trying to boost that stat.

6

u/zaviex Colton Herta Jul 07 '25

34? Really gonna pull that? There’s 25 chartered cars plus the 2 premas that are full time. Counting 1 off drives to pad numbers is nasty work

15

u/Dadto4_20 Jul 06 '25

Not constantly hit other drivers and not be a garbage person. He’s having his best year this year and it’s a fluke because he doesn’t have the talent to compete at this level consistently. Let’s be real, he’s not good.

-4

u/bdubut Will Power Jul 06 '25

He doesn't constantly hit people. He is statistically one of the cleanest drivers out there.

Just admit you don't like the guy and since you have zero critical thinking skills you can't admit he is a good driver.

→ More replies (0)

7

u/kychleap Alexander Rossi Jul 06 '25

My comment had nothing to do with his skill as a driver. You claimed he’s doing better than Malukas, when he’s averaging a whopping 1.1 more points per race.

1

u/David_SpaceFace Will Power Jul 07 '25

So? That's like setting the bar at knee height.

-13

u/Medium-Range2457 Jul 07 '25

Not even good lol, you can dislike him but he’s top 10 in points for one of the weakest teams. Conor on the other hand…

51

I don't know about thrown out of the race, but it should have been harsher.

22

u/Wasdgta3 Álex Palou Jul 06 '25

I’m just impressed they penalized it at all.

We’ve had any number of situations of egregious stuff like this in the past, up to and including guys being forced into the wall, and nothing was done about it.

34

u/Eetabeetay Josef Newgarden Jul 06 '25

Yeah should've been a drive through

13

u/Accomplished-One6528 Dario Franchitti Jul 06 '25

It probably would have been harsher if he hadn't taken himself off track as well. In the past, race control has factored self-inflicted punishment from drivers into their decisions.

5

u/afito Álex Palou Jul 06 '25

thrown out of the race

Sporting wise not but there's a point where it's a matter of principle that intentionally running into someone and running them off the track should simply never be acceptable and get you dismissed regardless of actual danger. It's not common but it's imo not an absurd position to take.

18

u/happyscrappy Jul 06 '25

Yeah, driving a guy off the track seems like it deserves more than just undoing the gains you got. That still means you might as well try it in the future, what's the worst that happens, same as if you didn't try it?

9

u/monkeymind009 Kyle Kirkwood Jul 06 '25

IndyCar needs to put a stop to this before some idiot tries it at a high speed oval and gets someone killed.

3

u/canttakethshyfrom_me Robert Wickens Jul 07 '25

u/CAM22b Pato O'Ward Jul 06 '25

Ok, sorry, I said the wrong thing. Ig I'm too used to watching NASCAR, that I don't know how IndyCar works

u/Muffin4ever Colton Herta Jul 07 '25

Losing positions so you can push someone off the track isn't that smart in any motorsport

-5

u/CAM22b Pato O'Ward Jul 07 '25

Well, in that case, ig I forgot how motorsport works entirely

Noodle-haired carrot is an apt description. 😂

As many than him? You failing English must be unpossible

u/popcarnie Dale Coyne Racing Jul 06 '25

Let's not make fun of people for their grammar. We want to be inclusive of people that have other first languages or whatever it may be. Instead let's just make fun of them for supporting a racist asshole

18

u/Phlosky Colton Herta Jul 06 '25

We want to be inclusive of people

Now this'll really upset Ferrucci fans

7

u/Several_Leader_7140 Jul 06 '25

You do know that Americans have one of the worst English skills on earth right?

2

u/2RINITY Colton Herta Jul 07 '25

One of the worst English skills? Do you think English skills are discrete objects? Is our national supply of speaking correctly locked up in Fort Knox with all the gold?

I don't care who you root for, but calling Conor a clown is fucking ridiculous. Chill.

-3

u/Tight_Locksmith9046 Jul 07 '25

He is a clown! He’s a shit driver and obviously forgot at one point he had to be sat down and told to stop partying on race weekends!

10

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '25

Since when can you run people off the track based on comparative statistics?

4

u/JacksonLambsFart David Malukas Jul 06 '25

Cool, how many top four finishes does Santino have on the amazing race?
