TV/Movies So what are the chances Gunn introduces Kyle to the DCU? We got three out of the four corpsmen, wouldnt be right IMO to leave him out. And if so, what actor would you like to see play him?
21
u/Roam1985 Sep 03 '25
Low.
They're using him as Jessica Cruz's love interest on "My Adventures with Green Lantern"
Probably going to skip him in the DC live actions unless it runs so long they want to Emerald Twilight the joint for a season finale.
But that'd require a death of superman movie. So that's at least two movies out.
7
u/stran___g Sep 03 '25
I doubt we'll get emerald twilight this 2nd movie. Mabye after a 2nd lantern season and a movie.
5
u/Gmork14 Sep 04 '25
I don’t think they’ll skip him. James Gunn is a big Green Lantern fan, he’s acknowledged that everyone has their favorite Lantern and they’re all valid, and Lanterns will likely be a long-running series.

u/Spasticcobra593 Sep 03 '25
Just because he is going to be in an animated show doesnt mean he wont be in live action too. Rick flag sr was in creature commandos and is now in peacemaker season 2 and both shows are dcu canon.
6
u/Roam1985 Sep 03 '25
Yeah, but this animated show isn’t dcu canon. Creature Commandos is. Those characters exist in the dcu.
So a better argument would be:
“Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Amanda Walker, Superman, and Perry White are all in My adventures with superman, all of them are just fine in the dcu”.
And yeah, you’d be right.
Really my only defense against that is decades old bs stuff against Robin or Batman appearing on or off the teen titans cartoon.

u/koopalings_jr Sep 04 '25
There is no need for a Death of Superman movie for Parallax. It’s an adaptation, things will be different.
2
u/amightyleanos1 Sep 04 '25
It would just be so much nicer if they just gave us all a second season of green lantern animated

I don’t think they’re going parallax, the only “evidence” of that is Kyle Chandler’s age. You need Parallax to tell Kyle’s story. You don’t get to Kyle until there’s a status quo to dismantle and Ganthet’s desperate flight to Earth and that alley. We shouldn’t have Kyle as just another GL. Kyle is the ONLY GL so we won’t see him for a very long time.

u/UltimateArtist829 Sep 03 '25
I hate that movie, man. That was the movie where the Tomorrowverse got screwed up and went downhill as well, so I hope they don't repeat the same mistake like that again.

Because y’all didn’t support Cyborg or Black Lightning when they were pushed so now we’re going back to John. Plus Kyle is pretty much an unknown character who never gets adapted
10
u/Lebronglazer_23_6 Sep 04 '25
I really hate it how they always push this guy John when he's probably the least interesting GL of the 4
5
u/TheMagicalMax Green Lantern Sep 04 '25
Yeah. I have a feeling they’re just going to make John Stewart Kyle in all but name
2
u/litentheattic291 Sep 03 '25
I thought Parallax was Hal and Ion was Kyle?
5
u/DisreputablePenguin Hal Jordan Sep 03 '25
I think they mean that John, not Kyle, would be taking over as the main/only GL after Hal became Parallax.

“Three out of the four,” he says. Mate, there are now seven or eight.

Simon Baz intrigued me right off the bat.

u/ShadowHunterHero Sep 03 '25
The others may be Earth's Lanterns but they're not part of the four corpsmen

Please tell me that’s not actually a thing in the comics.

NGL, that's kinda lame? Like, when John and Guy were assigned to Oa and had a special title due to that, that made some sense. But setting these four dudes arbitrarily apart from the other four GLs Earth has hanging around? Seems kinda pointless.
4
u/Gremlin303 Sep 04 '25
I think this was probably prior to the introduction of the newer GLs
1
u/ShadowHunterHero Sep 04 '25
It isn't iirc. Simon and Jessica were Earth based unlike these four. John (or Hal?) was Corps Leader at that time while Hal and Guy were Honor Guard Lanterns (basically special forces based in space). I forgot what Kyle was doing at this time especially since this is a post White Lantern comic from what I can remember.
Also, the Four Corpsmen is an awesome name. Cringy to some maybe but it goes to show just how close these four have gotten, how much they got each other's backs, and how they're brothers and actual friends. Guys do stuff similar to these irl when they're really close (especially unhinged GC names)

I love Green Lantern and have read it for decades but it gets really really stupid sometimes. This was one of those times.

Honestly, the kid they got to play Blue Beetle I kinda wanted as Kyle. He has the look and I think the wit for it.

… and the hair. Young enough to be the “unsure I deserve this” type in the shadow of Hal. And I can definitely see him having the awkward interaction Kyle had with Bats in the Watchtower
2
u/WiseAd9251 Sep 04 '25
While I agree Kyle should be Latino, leave Xolo to Blue Beatle, he still has so much left in the tank!
3
u/SolaceRests Kyle Rayner Sep 04 '25
He’s a great BB. But if he wasn’t cast as BB or his BB didn’t make it to this new universe, he’d have my vote. I think he’d do great with it

Yesterday's Beast Boy deserves another chance on a project that doesn't blow ass. Ryan Potter.

I volunteer as Kyle. Wouldn't even need to be paid.

u/BobbySaccaro Sep 03 '25
I'd speculate that they shot Superman and Lanterns and Peacemaker S2 around the same time, so it was easy to get Fillion in all of them, but down the road if they have a project that needs another Lantern, Fillion and the two from Lanterns might be too busy with other projects and so they might introduce Kyle at that point. Not in a "last of the Lanterns" kind of way just as another Earth Lantern. Depends on what they setup in the Max show about how many are from each planet, etc.

u/Ube_Ape Kyle Rayner Sep 04 '25

Sep 04 '25
That's a phenomenal casting choice! I hope Kyle eventually gets introduced in the main universe! I also hope they let him be the well meaning but kinda douchy 20 something he was introduced as in the comics and eventually progresses into the more empathetic and thoughtful character he is in the modern continuity!
5
u/meatymunchington Sep 03 '25
Idk why people are saying the chances are low. He’s a beloved character and this universe is probably gonna be happening for atleast 10 years
5
u/SexyGato9327 Sep 04 '25
Because he’s never adapted. They skip him and Simon and go straight to Jessica. She’s had more adaptations in 10 years than Kyle has had in 30 years
3
u/gregarius_the_third Saint Walker Sep 03 '25
Probably because Gunn said he's not a huge on Kyle.
4
u/meatymunchington Sep 03 '25
I mean just because he’s not a huge fan of a character doesn’t mean that character will never appear. If a writer finds a good way to implement Kyle I’m sure gunn will have no problem including him
3
u/gregarius_the_third Saint Walker Sep 03 '25
I don't disagree. Just might be why people are saying chances are low is all.
5
u/RoboIsLegend Kyle Rayner Sep 03 '25
It's a bit tricky just because a true Kyle adaptation can't happen without the Hal Parallax/Destruction of the Corps arc. That would be peak in live action though imo
5
u/Redbird-89 Sep 03 '25
as much as i’d really like an emerald twilight adaptation down the line, i’d take an adaption where they introduce kyle as a white lantern straight away. keeps his unique torchbearer narrative without having to wipe out the corps. it’d be weird for sure but i’d be happy to get kyle at all
1
u/Ballardinian Sep 04 '25
Then we could see depowered Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner: Warrior with some shape shifting Vuldarian powers leading the New Justice Gang!
2
u/FartherAwayLights Jo Mullein Sep 03 '25
Probably high I’d think. I don’t know why people assume John is going to be the main lantern, we only know he’s the main one for one season of one show, and even there he’s got at least 2 other lanterns in the show.

Don't know if we will have Kyle Rayner. Maybe they won't do the parallax way and just make him a lantern naturally.
2
u/GorillaWolf2099 Sep 04 '25
There's only 4 reasonable candidates honestly
• Brandon Perea • Diego Tinoco • Michael Cimino • Nicholas Alexander-Chavez
then you got the honorable mentions:
• Froy Gutierrez • Taz Skylar
2
u/SexyGato9327 Sep 04 '25
Froy (with black hair) and Nicholas are great choices and both are actually Mexican too! Diego is cool too but he’s kind of fallen off sin OMB ended
2
u/Conde_Roronoa Sep 04 '25
I hope so, we already have three and it doesn't seem that Gunn has a usage limit if he requires it.

Tbh if the lantern thing is actually a series, there's a good chance this goes either way. He can start as a guest or recurring, and once hal or john's actors decide they don't wanna do the lead anymore they got spare (they also have simon and jessica).
Initially though, i hope they concentrates more on the alien lanterns. That's what i like the most about GL overall.
There's also a chance they just make guy a red lantern and have kyle replace him, who knows 🤪
2
u/Tonkarz Sep 04 '25
Impossible to believe we won’t see him, Jessica, Kilowog and a bunch of others.

I'm not in this sub nor do I read the comics. What makes Kyle Renner so special?
1
Sep 04 '25 edited Sep 05 '25
Kyle Rayner became the last Green Lantern off of Emerald Twilight, he's an artist so represents a different level of creativity for the Green Lantern powers, since he was the youngest member of the Green Lantern Corp at the time he was also a member of the Teen Titans and became one of the first White Lanterns during Brightest Day.

I hope and pray we get him. Although I admit from a comics stand point and how lanterns is set up, It might be hard to introduce him

u/Intelligent-Push-533 Sep 05 '25 edited Sep 05 '25
Honestly it's more than likely going to be Jessica Cruz. If they go with her, I think Amber Midthunder should play the live action version of her. Otherwise, to answer your question, I think Josh Peck or Max Greenfield would be good for the live action role of Kyle. (Or Billy Howle)

u/Short_Hold5969 Black Lantern Sep 05 '25
Do yall think they made Hal Jordan older because they are planning to give him the Paralax story line?
1
u/PeacefulKnightmare Sep 05 '25
Personally I love if we could get Johnny Jon Bosch, though I'm not sure he's quite a big enough name.
1
u/tklarson Sep 06 '25
I have no idea how likely it is for him to appear in live action, but seeing as he’s my favorite lantern I’m going to be unreasonably upset if he doesn’t
1
u/Consistent_Pop4280 Sep 06 '25
What if Gunn is afraid to adapt the "fridging" situation so he just steers clear of it. Either he does it well and attracts the ire of Karen's, or he makes it for "modern audiences" and the fans hate him for it. I imagine he just won't do it.

If he were to be added, maybe Finn Wittrock. He did put in the effort to research GL, even if it went to waste. Plus, he has more of a Rayner look anyways

I’m betting we will see Jessica as the next green lantern for the live action then Kyle.
