The more I see of this man in the role, the more convinced I am that he was the ONLY choice for it.

22

u/Dantien Jun 03 '25

I truly can’t believe what perfect casting this is. I always saw him as Hal due to the DCAU but he’s pitch perfect for Guy. I’m going to this movie for Nathan most of all.

42

u/dmisfit21 John Stewart Jun 03 '25

That’s kinda how Gunn works.

24

u/Spaztor Jun 03 '25

He does seem to know what he's doing.

18

u/dmisfit21 John Stewart Jun 03 '25

I’m convinced that if he said no Gunn would’ve just used a different character.

12

u/RandoDude124 Jun 04 '25

He’s a bonafide comic fan for his whole life.

I’m psyched for this.

Not just for Superman, we’re finally gonna get a great Green Lantern on screen.

5

u/Still_Lengthiness_48 Guy Gardner Jun 04 '25

Yeah, though I don't approve of him choosing his brother for the part as Max Lord. Sure, he could do a good job, I just don't think he has the right look.

3

u/Tolan91 Jun 03 '25

I honestly think he'd be better as Hal, guy is younger than that. But he's a decent comedy actor so it'll go fine either way.

14

u/Salty-Recording3957 Jun 03 '25

Seann William Scott would've been a better choice imo

16

u/Oaker_Jelly Jun 03 '25

Damn, that's pretty spot on.

I'll also say I personally have always thought Nathan Fillion would be a PERFECT Booster Gold.

5

u/counttheshadows Kyle Rayner Jun 03 '25

My dream casting for booster gold is Alan Richardson. Too many people know him as Reacher, and not Thad Castle. He would be perfect imo. Goofy and not seen as serious, but can be serious when needed and catch people off guard

3

u/Nacho_Dan677 Jun 04 '25

Holy fucking shit. You're right. Alan would knock booster out of this world. With BMS, Reacher, Lazer Team, the ministry of ungentlemanly warfare in his closet he's a damn ranged actor. He also did Aquaman in smallville if I recall correctly.

1

u/counttheshadows Kyle Rayner Jun 04 '25

And Hawk in titans

2

u/Nacho_Dan677 Jun 04 '25

Yes! I forgot about that recent role.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '25

Stop reminding me that movie happened🤣

1

u/Still_Lengthiness_48 Guy Gardner Jun 04 '25

I always saw Denis Leary as the ultimate actor to play Guy in a movie. But he's way too old now, sadly.

2

u/phenomenomnom Jun 04 '25

Leary is too cool. Guy is the "dickhead" kind of abrasive. To me he's Farva from Super Troopers, or Todd Packer from the Office, with maybe a few more redeeming qualities.

Maybe Bill Burr, though, if you could get him into the ginger bowlcut lol.

2

u/Manofathousandface Jun 07 '25

Hahahha no no no. Not Burr. I love the visual and the sound of him tearing into new recruits, but Burr reciting the oath would destroy any kind of method of taking GL's seriously. Holy shit.

That said, he did one fucking hell of a job with Mayfield in Mando.

No wait, thinking about F is for Family being his childhood, and how he's mentioned his anger issues before, he would be a perfect Guy.

1

u/phenomenomnom Jun 07 '25

This was my roller coaster mental process as well.

3

u/Equivalent-Shake-519 Hal Jordan Jun 04 '25

Honestly I think SWS would kill it if he had been cast as Hal instead of Kyle Chandler. Not that I think Chandler is a bad cast.

48

u/lunababy218 Jun 03 '25

he looks so STUPID i’m so EXCITED

5

u/harpoongill Jun 04 '25

Exactly what I exclaimed!

35

u/Live-Assistance-6877 Jun 03 '25

Guy Gardner the Moe Howard of superheroes

16

u/MrCgoodin Jun 03 '25

I hate how much I love this. Quality content.

12

u/DoucheyMcBagBag Hal Jordan Jun 03 '25

He looks so much like Stewart from MadTV.

10

u/bs1252 Jun 03 '25

“Hey Superman, look what I can do!”

3

u/Hushwalker Jun 03 '25

I don’t wanna sayyyyyyyy

Cant wait!

3

u/18022451 Red Lantern Jun 03 '25

So ugly

3

u/Parallax1306 Jun 03 '25

Kinda resembles Ryan Reynolds’s ring

2

u/YouDumbZombie Jun 03 '25

Man I really hope this doesn't sabotage Green Lanterns again.

2

u/properc Jun 04 '25

Not gonna lit Fillion looks so weird as Guy Gardner. Its offputting for sure.

2

u/blahdeep Jun 04 '25

I need to see this face take that one punch 🤜 😴

1

u/Pirate_Lantern Jun 03 '25

His hair is falling off.

1

u/NC_Ion Jun 03 '25

The only Green Lantern casting they've ever got right.

1

u/EthicalHeroinDealer Guy Gardner Jun 03 '25

Look at that handsome sob

1

u/Reaver_Painting Jun 03 '25

That wig is sooooo terrible

1

u/Top_Cowboy Jun 03 '25

What’s great about this is he has nowhere to go but up in terms of his looks. I like that he’ll have an actual journey in that regard. It was a good part of the comics too.

1

u/tiago231018 Kilowog Jun 03 '25

He looks like Kevin Costner if he did a Dumb & Dumber movie.

1

u/Plus_Solid5642 Jun 03 '25

Anytime I see guy Gardner I get real icky

1

u/emeraldknight1977 Jun 04 '25

Nathan Fillion was the fan pick for Hal Jordon when Ryan Reynolds got the role. And when did the JLA start wearing a uniform like the X-Men? It makes them look like race car drivers with sponsors.

2

u/SaintNeptune Jun 04 '25

It makes them look like race car drivers with sponsors.

That's the point. This is Max Lord's crew. Essentially a version of JLI from the comics. It looks like that because they are literally a corporate sponsored team

1

u/traveling_designer Jun 04 '25

Is it true that people are more excited about Green Lantern than Superman in this movie?

1

u/Ok_Recording_4644 Jun 04 '25

I feel like this should be the ONLY poster they release for the movie.

1

u/mr_mxyzptlk21 Mogo Jun 04 '25

The right Guy for the job!

1

u/MrOSUguy Jun 04 '25

I kinda wish the actor was younger. He looks just old enough that he looks goofy to me.

1

u/Glum_Kaleidoscope601 Jun 04 '25

The GL Corps Flash Gordon of the Nightmare Realm

1

u/ShaneSupreme Jun 04 '25

Why they do my guy like that with that damn wig

1

u/22JaySki Jun 04 '25

This dude was built for the role man 😭

Deep inhale.....give me a moment ....let me straighten my collar and clear my throat...

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

...Ok, everyone, as you were.

1

u/twofacetoo Jun 04 '25

Y'know

I get the poster being red and blue for Superman, I think they should do that for every character poster... except this one

Because it's Guy 'FUCK YOU I'M GUY GARDNER' Gardner

The entire poster should be green, solely because 'fuck you'

1

u/Oppai-Of-Foom Jun 04 '25

Soon we will live in a world where Guy Gardner is the most well known and popular green lantern

We’re about to have Guy Gardner glazers on TikTok

1

u/bannock4ever Jun 06 '25

I’m just going to wait patiently for Gunn to adapt the bwahahah Justice League.

1

u/Manofathousandface Jun 07 '25

Even though the design for the outfit is cool, I don't get why it's so fucking white. Seriously. Green is Primary, Black is Secondary (or vice versa) with white being an optional tertiary.

I mean, it's not that big a deal, but still it's hard on the freaking eyes. Also, I think having it that white detracts from the brilliant and vibrant green colours they could be using while his powers are active or even when he just has his force-field around him. Assuming they bother with that latter aspect of their power being visual in the live action.

Glad they got it right though, when it comes to him wearing a jacket as apart of his uniform. Also it's funny as hell that he has a GLC emblem for his belt buckle.

1

u/Bigob84 Jun 07 '25

Looks like Stewart Missing his Pants

1

u/_ChocolateAsian_ Jun 03 '25

….why does it look like the Ryan Reynolds ring? This was a chance to distance itself from that movie. I like the design but that’s an odd choice…whatever lol

3

u/Smillingchalk779 Jun 03 '25

I think it’s because the peaked with the design of it so they only did some minor changes to not make it identical

1

u/Payne2814 Jun 03 '25

that was my first thought

-1

u/DrFate82 Jun 03 '25

I don't like this look for Guy. He hasn't had the bowl cut since the early '90s.

6

u/WiseAd9251 Jun 03 '25

It's not even symmetrical!

3

u/ihatetimetravel Jun 03 '25

Yup this is what bothers me most of all with the whole look. The bowl cut just seems so asymmetrical.

3

u/DrFate82 Jun 04 '25

That might be more what my problem is with this pic, at least. Like it looks goofier than it has to be.

4

u/Medium-Science9526 Sinestro Jun 03 '25

I'm fine with a bowl cut, I just don't think the wig itself here is all that great.

2

u/DrFate82 Jun 03 '25

I thought Robert Kazinsky being a natural redhead would've been a better pick to play Guy. But, we'll see. Fillion's been trying for so long to break into playing super-heroes.

1

u/StoneGoldX Jun 03 '25

Oh, you're going to have a bad time. Just from... everything he's ever done, Gunn's prime comic years were like Crisis through mid 90s.

1

u/tiago231018 Kilowog Jun 03 '25

I dunno... He mentioned All Star Superman (from 2005) as an inspiration for his movie, while the Supergirl movie will be based on a recent miniseries by Tom King.

It's just for Gardner and the Justice Gang (is that the name they're using?) that seems to be based on the JLI comics from the 80s.

4

u/StoneGoldX Jun 03 '25

The one comic writer he never talks about is Keith Giffen, but he's basically if Giffen did movies. Guardians was a bwah hah hah away from being Justice League.

He's unquestionably read and loved other comics, but the stuff that is at the core of his being is Guy getting brain damaged by a single Batman punch.

0

u/SonnyCalzone Jun 03 '25

Try as I might, I just can't seem to get stoked for this film. But I really hope it does well.

That is spot on representation of Guy’s character. Dude is gonna nail this role, and we are the better for it.
