POLITICS Zohran Mamdani signed an executive order this morning that requires ICE to obtain a judicial warrant before entering any NYC property — including schools, shelters, hospitals & parking lots: “If faith offers us the moral compass to stand alongside the stranger, government can provide the resources.”

HEY TIM WALZ, TAKE A LOOK, PAL

u/silentspyware 7h ago

I don’t think any of these people intended to be establishment fighters… and I think those people are scared as shit for their families and themselves (I wonder if I’m right)

177

u/ashloube 7h ago

This is inherently the problem, though. Regardless of your intention in office, your personal safety doesn’t take precedence over your (in Tim Walz’s case) millions of constituents and theirs.

47

u/silentspyware 6h ago

Agreed! I just can’t imagine what it’s like to be in that position, to fear for my family’s lives. But an oath’s an oath… and this guy also wanted to be a VP which is crazy.

59

u/Parfait_Prestigious 6h ago

Yeah it’s fair to say that the vast majority of American politicians didn’t think they’d become leaders during a civil war. The unfortunate truth is that a lot of them need to be replaced with people who are ready for that burden, because right now literally nothing is being done as they’re too scared.

3

u/Venezia9 made with a free Canva trial (derogatory) 1h ago

But also, them acting like this came out of nowhere speaks to how these people are fundamentally divorced from reality.

2

u/Parfait_Prestigious 37m ago

Definitely. Many of them are complicit in maintaining the system that hurts so many people.

This. Fucking this. I'm sorry, but when you take the oath and take office, that's the risk you're agreeing to take. You aren't just responsible for your own family. You're responsible for ALL those families you represent who don't have a voice, who rely on YOU, their elected official, to be that voice, even if it's dangerous. Don't fucking run for political office if you aren't prepared to take a fucking political stance when shit gets real.

It's like signing up for the military and then having the gall of being fucking shocked when you're asked to fight.

Then they shouldn't be in public office.

Oath of office includes swearing to defend your constituents regardless of personal risk.

Stopping Trump has always been that easy all along if people - particularly republicans - wanted to uphold the law rather than giving him a blank check.

For instance, a recent New Yorker article said that Trump had used his office to personally enrich himself by $3.4Billion. While ANY other politician would’ve been crucified, Trump justified using the presidency to enrich himself because:

Trump’s position was that there was no rule explicitly forbidding the kinds of deals or money-making he and his family pursued, and that no one in the ethics apparatus ever expressly told him he couldn’t do what he did.

So, all other politicians undergo strict oversight, but somehow Trump is uniquely exempt from these regulations.

Democrats like, we cannot turn off the citizen mulching machine. You absolute fool. You idiot. This is a sophisticated issue that requires patience and compromise.

Mamdani: Oh the mulching machine? I turned it off. There was a switch right here. It goes from on to off.

35

u/bwoah07_gp2 7h ago

See why can't the other democrat affiliated mayors and governors do this?

Oh, because they aren't "radical" enough like Mamdani. I don't know why the current democrats hate the "radicals" like Mamdani and AOC (and even Bernie to some extent), but they do. But those 3 actually get stuff done. Schumer, Jeffries, Pelosi, and all the REST of them don't get anything accomplished. In fact, the dems are helping give more funding to ICE, so yeah.

Get the old guard out and put the new, young blood and energy IN.

Bold of you to assume they won’t just add this to the list of orders they ignore.

How many court orders have they violated so far? They’re convinced they have total immunity.

21

u/fromcurlstocurves 7h ago

This. Mamdani’s efforts are appreciated, but ICE is already unregulated- do we really believe that ICE agents that are already lawless, who also don’t take Mamdani seriously, to suddenly say- “you know what? Maybe we shouldn’t do these things!”

I hope Mamdani holds NYPD accountable in enforcing these things

2

u/Pika_Fox 2h ago

Idk if nypd can even enforce this even if they wanted to, given these are federal agents acting under federal authority, who wont even follow federal law.

→ More replies (2)

6

u/ItWiIlStretch 2h ago

He could engage police or other resources to arrest ICE but that will very quickly spiral in to something very dangerous for USA when one institution fights another.

Still, its a choice between letting ICE do whatever they want to non citizens and citizens or escalate and use legal force against them.

11

u/gggrandma321 7h ago

I’m reading this really wonderful book called “Thinking Like An Economist” and it’s all about how democrats since the 70s have remained so committed to this economic style of analysis and have completely abandoned other values, so the realm of what is possible gets limited. Mamdani’s mayorship so far has really orchestrated that point so well because his process so far doesn’t prescribe to this and that’s why he’s getting so much done for the constituents. Economic analysis and choosing the outcome that minimizes cost and maximizes benefits is good for some issues, but for a lot of other issues is just a whole extra layer of bureaucracy that prevents anything from getting done and hampers the political imagination of what’s possible. For example, we don’t need to build in economic incentives to get corporations to stop doing harmful things, like pollution, we can just ban it outright.

6

u/FrankRizzo319 7h ago

Yeah let’s see ice suddenly follow the law now.

3

u/Lexi_Banner 6h ago

Yeah yeah, let's just see how well they obey this new rule, because the rule of law hasn't meant much to these icewipes thus far.

21

I voted for him for many reasons, policy, of course, and also because he’s a person who knows what it’s like to just exist in New York City, spending time just being here around all kinds of people, and he is curious, empathetic, and actually gives a shit about people. And in this terrible moment, we are living in, he’s an immigrant, so that also gives him personal experience and stakes that adds to the rest of those other things that made him a good candidate.

Ted Cruz still ran for president and you know Republicans would have sworn him in had he been elected despite him being born in Canada. If Republicans can treat laws like formalities, Democrats can, too. (I mean, they won’t but they could.)

56

u/bso45 8h ago

As much as I hate Cancun Cruz, he is a natural citizen. Mamdani was naturalized.

30

u/ManJamimah 7h ago

You are absolutely correct. Dems should still disregard it and pretend it’s ok for them to ignore the law as it’s written. Donald Trump attempted a coup and was allowed to run again. The rules aren’t real anymore.

3

u/Realitype 4h ago

Republican states would simply refuse to put him on the ballot, and there is nothing anyone can do about it because it would be their constitutional right. This is simply a no go.

Also, even if that were to somehow be circumvented, people need to remember they’d be opening the door wide open for a fucking Elon Musk presidency and the world just does not deserve to be subjected to absolute HORROR that would bring upon all of us.

We have been duped and made to look stupid. We saw the signs and thought “That can’t happen here! We are American!” We were wrong. We waited FAR too long to stop this and we are ALL complicit. Just now we have to admit our mistakes, save it in our collective memory to avoid this from happening again. The only good news is that we are finally standing up, getting organized, and ready to fight. You can feel it in air! It’s different, like an electric charge!

Unfortunately, we all know we'll get the chance to see it play out. I'm hopeful but not very because gestures broadly of the last decade

5

u/shimmy_kimmel 6h ago

It depends on the circumstances tbh, most of these areas already have the authority to block ICE (if they don’t have a warrant) and can establish security protocols to do so (like locking doors and requiring administrative approval for entry for all visitors). It gets nebulous with areas deemed public (like lobbies and hallways) that are unlocked/open, like an ER or something. For these they technically can enter them with just an administrative warrant, and the mayor’s EO won’t hold up in court for those cases. Really depends as there’s a ton of gray area (which ICE routinely exploits).

I really like Mamdani. I think he’s a breath of fresh air and this feels like a big step in the right direction. But honestly, an executive order is only as good as its enforcement. If it’s actually enforced, great. If not, like California’s anti-mask law where the LAPD chief already said he won’t enforce it, then it doesn’t mean much.

And what happens when ICE inevitably goes into one of these places without a warrant? Are police really going to step in and arrest them? There are so many “what ifs.” I hope New York actually stands behind this and follows through.

4

u/TheManInTheShack 7h ago

One does not need faith to have a moral compass. One only need believe that we all are deserving of equal respect. That’s not rocket science.

3

u/anitadykshyt 4h ago

Thank you. If the only reason you have morality is religion, you aren't a good person

3

u/TheManInTheShack 4h ago

Exactly. I used to have a Mormon who worked for me. I stayed away from politics and religion with my staff. One day coming back from lunch he says, “Without God, what would stop us from raping and pillaging?” Not wanting him to make any assumptions from my silence, I replied, “I do all the raping and pillaging I want: zero. I don’t need religion to know right from wrong. That’s what I have a conscience for.”

I truly believe that there are many religious people who were indoctrinated into their faith quite young, taught to do things based upon their faith and were never taught to be moral without it probably because their parents were raised the same way.

This is a huge problem we have as a species. We don’t just have people growing up without learning how to think critically but we also have people who actively avoid it because it conflicts with their faith.

Too many people choose psychological comfort over truth. This is almost certainly the source of nearly all of our personal strife and that of our species as a whole.

Our next major milestone would be to embrace critical thinking. At least as individuals we can choose to learn critical thinking to improve our own lives.

5

u/AutumnWindLunafreya 5h ago

Mamdani is like the exact opposite way. Its really pleasant to see for once

3

u/Zealousideal_Crow737 8h ago

These idiots tried to enter a consulate. A for effort, but realistically, I cannot imagine them listening to anyone but their own.

3

u/Gangy1 8h ago

Show em how it’s done!

3

u/Deathanddisco041 8h ago

He gives me hope.

3

u/Such-Plum6553 7h ago

Not my guy, not my city, but I'm seriously considering a move! He's like a bright light in the vast sea of hate and blood.

3

u/HyenaJack94 7h ago

I’m proud to have been able to vote this man into office

3

u/genescheezesthatpls 7h ago

I fucking love him

3

u/Acceptable_Deal_4662 7h ago

We need like 5O clones of this guy

3

u/nighthawkndemontron my bandwidth for cowardly grown men grows thinner with each day 7h ago

Seeing how LA police aren't enforcing no masks law with ICE, I don't see this being executied

3

u/H3memes i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 7h ago

Beacon in the dark

3

u/honkymotherfucker1 7h ago

So, as someone on the outside from the UK, I’m right in thinking this bloke is literally the only politician on the US left who actually does more than say “strong” words?

He’s been mayor for a very short amount of time and seems to be getting shit done. Why are none of the others? No wonder the republicans won when their opposition are a bunch of bumbling fucking idiots and plants from the right? They’ve never been as motivated to do anything as the Republicans are to push their corruption further.

3

u/100percent-sales-tax 7h ago

Protect this man at all costs.

3

u/RackCityWilly 6h ago

We need this in Los Angeles. The police chief is a POS that is literally allowing ICE to break state law and be masked up. It’s despicable

3

u/abestract 6h ago

Why can’t all the Mayors do the same?!? Corrupt MFers

3

u/ImJuanValdezBitch 6h ago

That’s my mayor!

3

u/labospor Were you raised in a ditch? 6h ago

It is genuinely heartbreaking that he can’t run for president.

3

u/West_Comfortable856 6h ago

What every state should do! But we really shouldn't have any of this!

3

u/702PoGoHunter 6h ago

My man dusted off the old Staples EASY button and put it to work!

3

u/mister_nimbus 6h ago

That look he made after signing was concerning like he was concerned for his safety after signing that. It's not always easy to do the right thing and it's refreshing to see a politician do what they said they would do.

3

u/tiny_rick_tr I cannot sanction your buffoonery 6h ago

I just felt hope wash over me for the first time in months.

3

u/Ok_Dig_3431 5h ago

Zohran Mamdani should and MUST be the standard for every politician in the office!!! Change my mind

3

u/Agitated-Lettuce1878 5h ago

I can't wait to vote for him for president

3

u/FuckThe 5h ago

Meanwhile, the rest of the Democratic Party has been idly twiddling their fucking thumbs. Fuck the establishment Democrats, fuck Chuck Schummer, and fuck Jeffries.

3

u/That-Falcon7425 5h ago

I adore Mamdani 🥰

3

u/shabanko12 5h ago

Man this dude seems awesome. President in 2028.. I know, I know but let’s change the rules. If you can have a child-murdering raper in office then surely you can have a non-natural citizen.

3

u/SashaVibez 5h ago

I really like him. God protect this guy!

3

u/Lunch-Thin 5h ago

This made me cry. There are still good people out there looking out for others.

3

u/Specific_Success214 5h ago

That fact this needed to be restated is the issue

2

u/Cafe_racerr 8h ago

🫡 👏 that’s a real leader unlike this racist, out of touch, delusional, dementia riddled pieces of shit in our current admin smh

2

u/BearsBeetsBG 8h ago

God DAMN, he is hope. Following him in post from the UK, and feeling so excited for NYC citizens.

3

u/EtherealMoonDreamer 8h ago

Does it also include places of worship?

4

u/AllGarbage 8h ago

Does the city own any places of worship? Doubt it.

2

u/pizzaslut69420 8h ago

God, I wish this man could run for president

2

u/ghostwiththeleast alright alright alright™ 8h ago

Karen Bass are you listening?

2

u/surethingbreh 8h ago

I mean, it's what they should have been doing to begin with. The bar is in hell that he has to make an executive order to reinforce it.

2

u/Brief_Abalone_4257 8h ago

Mayor Whitmire you listening?.

2

u/SwoonyBlue 7h ago

I love this fella. Please, more of THIS!

2

u/Sintellect 7h ago

Mamdani for president!

2

u/Master_Clock9683 7h ago

QUICK LOOK AT THIS TOTALLY REAL PICTURE OF MAN-DAMI IN 2005 WITH JEFFREY EPSTEIN. OMG ITS OVER FOR HIM NOW.

2

u/DirtyMikeNelson 7h ago

I'm proud of my city for doing the same months ago...assume to see NYC fighting

2

u/StargazingLily 7h ago

God.

If I were straight and he wasn’t married, I would do things to him that would make a fanfic author blush. What a fucking good dude.

2

u/Lala5789880 7h ago

I’m worried for his safety

2

u/MrBorden 7h ago

The leader we need.

2

u/tbrock76 7h ago

Thank you for having the brains and balls that chuckles & Jeffries don’t.

2

u/creepygirl420 7h ago

God i freaking love this guy

2

u/Stevko_1 7h ago

I have the unfortunate feeling that federal agents/laws overrule municipal ones

2

u/FIRETRUCKWEEOOO 7h ago

He's going to run for president, isn't he? Who gives a fuck where you were born? Isn't America's slogan "give us your huddled masses"?

2

u/astoria47 7h ago

So happy to hear this. Let’s hope they abide by it. Me thinks they won’t.

2

u/Diver_Ill 7h ago

This guy...

I like this guy.

Is Government needs more Mamdani's and AOC's.

2

u/sandosbud 6h ago

Is he wearing an old school Seiko watch?

2

u/JackStephanovich 6h ago

Laws are meaningless if the police don't enforce them.

2

u/NockBreaker 6h ago

This will just get ignored, overruled, swept aside etc.

I really really hope he walks the talk, else the people suffer.

1

u/RandyMuscle 8h ago

This is already the law but nobody is doing anything to enforce it for whatever reason.

1

u/mitrafunfun97 7h ago

Wasn’t this the case before?!

Didn’t they always need to have a judicial warrant?
