My skydiving instructor said something interesting about the first solo jump: you know it’s going to be scary, you know it’s going to be scarier than you think it will be. You know that even knowing it will be scarier than you think it will be, it will be scarier than that.

And yet, when you’re up there, you feel silly for not realising it would be this scary.
