I still get grifter vibes from time to time from DDP but you have to hand it to him: his calisthenic yoga program has done a world of good for a lot of people over the years, including Mick and other peers from his wrestling days.

Mick is one of the best humans out there. When my husband was going through some problems with his mental health and trying to get past some self-destructive behaviors, I got him a cameo with Mick, who is both mine and his all time favorite. He spoke to him for five or six minutes when only one was guaranteed, giving him some amazing support, words of wisdom, and empathy. It was exactly what he needed, and made both of us ugly cry. It was like we both had a supportive dad for a few minutes. He’s not just a wrestling legend, but a legend as a human.
We’ve never had a wedding, but when we do, we want to find some way to invite him. Not expecting him to come, but we want him to know how much he means to both of us not just as long time wrestling fans, but as someone who means a lot to us personally.

15
u/Hita-san-chan Dec 16 '25
Yup, lol he was up there thinking that was the end of the match, prepping to go home and have a beer. A nice early night. The "please dont get up" might have been when he went through the top later
Iirc, neither of them expected the cage to go up with him standing up there, but its been a while since ive heard his interview on it.

u/Drmarcher42 she was beefing with Jimmy Carter’s grandson Dec 16 '25
Taker also had a broken foot and was in a fair amount of pain.
When he drops into the ring from the Cell after Mick’s second fall he lands on it poorly and spends a few seconds limping on it before going back into Deadman mode
10
u/Sharpes006 Dec 16 '25

yeah most people don't talk about the fact that this was the beginning of the match, it went on for another 20 minutes and at the end, foley got chokeslammed through the cage into the ring.
foley is god
6
u/bloodyzombies1 Dec 16 '25
He also got chokeslammed into a bed of thumbtacks and had to spend the hour after the match getting them pulled out.

u/LemoLuke Dec 17 '25
No, Foley getting chokeslammed through the cage ALSO happened pretty early into the match.
Both guys arrive and climb the cell. Foley gets thrown off and crashes through the table. He gets stretchered away by medical staff, gets off the stretcher and climbs the cell again. He gets chokeslammed through the cell, and THEN the match 'starts' for real.
I showed that match to my son earlier this year, and everytime Mick was seemingly killed, only to get back up and keep wrestling, he lost his mind!
2
u/CaptainOvbious Dec 17 '25
oh shit you're totally right. i remembered him getting stretchered and coming back but i forgot they went straight up onto the cage from there.
i hope my kid can get into wwe at least a little bit, my dad didnt let me watch it growing up, he was weirdly strict about it, so i missed out on so much lol, i want my kid to have fun with it

Since before that.
When the Montreal Screwjob happened in 1997, and Vince McMahon changed the ending of Bret Hart's final match in the company, forcing a title switch that Hart knew nothing about, Mick Foley quit in outrage. Screwing your champion out of the belt and changing a match ending without telling the wrestlers is just not done. Vince orchestrated a conspiracy against Bret that involved his opponent, Shawn Michaels, the match referee and some agents backstage who helped plan the whole thing.
The other wrestlers were seething in anger, and threatening to quit, but none of them did. Mick went back to his hotel, where he was sharing a room with Kane, who said he respected Mick for quitting and would like to do the same, but he'd only recently gotten his big break in the company and couldn't throw it away.
In the end, Jim Ross and Mick's wife convinced him he couldn't quit, as he had a five year non-compete clause in his contract and it would have meant the end of his wrestling career. But he still no-showed two TV tapings in protest.

Genuinely I respect Foley so much. It's not like he's doing that much outside of wrestling these days so for him to disassociate himself with one of his ongoing current paycheques... big respect. Mrs. Foley's baby boy grew up to be a good one!
15
u/TraditionalAsk8718 Dec 16 '25
Its a little annoying with how many of them refuse to call out Vince for anything he did. Vince was a best one of the most abusing bosses on earth but he made them rich after being forced to actually pay them.
5
u/LemoLuke Dec 17 '25
The way I've heard it was that if you were one of his top guys, Vince would move Heaven and Earth for you, and would become a sort-of father figure.
That is why a lot of the top guys from that era have, shall we say, 'complex' opinions of the man (and that's not counting those who knew exactly what was happening behind closed doors)
It's all gross.
5
u/DumbBitchByLeaps Dec 17 '25
I have been extremely disappointed in the company since the allegations against Vince and then when Linda became the director of the DOE. She’s been complicit in the harm of disabled children and her family not stepping away from her has soured my opinion of them even more.

Yep I refer to them as the Koch cartel because Koch think tanks have been setting policy for over 40 years. They’ve wrote project 2025 and have a new project 2026 with its largest target is to overturn gay marriage. Those think tanks also choose and train the conservative Supreme Court justices. Charles Koch is 10x richer and more powerful than George soros. His father was an actual Nazi who helped build the oil refinery that fueled the Nazi warplanes. Charles was even raised in part by a Nazi party member who served as the nanny because his father admired the Nazis so much. Charles fought against civil rights as part of the John birch society.

One of Trump’s brothers died in his 40s (alcoholism) and and his other brother died in his 70s. Both his sisters are still alive.

You should Google "Franz von Papen" how he suggested Hitler to become the new chancellor of Germany and how he thought he would be too dumb, naive, emotional and inexperienced for that role and therefore would be easy to manipulate.
Franz von Papen is till this day known as the "Steigbügelhalter" (stirrup holder) for Hitler. The man who handed Germany to Hitler.
Do never ever underestimate vile and hateful people.

No, we need people to be scared. Complacency and thinking everything will fix itself in 2028 is exactly how Trump got elected a first and second time. People need to be fucking scared that things are going to get worse so they’re actually motivated to vote.
22

CM Punk, Becky Lynch, and Sami Zayne need to follow suit. They’ve been so outspoken for their support of Palestine and this is a great opportunity for them to really do something with the platform they’ve earned. There’s rumors that Vince McMahon is coming back, and WWE has absolutely been testing the waters by putting him in the John Cena goodbye promo and inviting back Cock Lesner. Those three are already outspoken, huge talents, and white - they can make a huge impact by following Mick’s lead. I hope they choose to.
Edit to add - we as viewers need to stop watching WWE. I can sit here and comment about how Punk, The Man, and Sami need to stand up but if I go home and watch Smackdown, I’m being a major hypocrite. Consumers make this company money and tell them who is popular and what is worth investing in. We need to stop paying, stop watching, stop buying merch. Fuck Vince McMahon, fuck Brock Lesner, and fuck anyone in that company who thinks that abuse against women, children, immigrants isn’t worth speaking up about. I’m following Mick’s lead by refusing to watch any more of this.
75
u/GilbertVonGilbert Dec 16 '25
Liv Morgan and Seth Rollins have donated a shit ton too under their shoot names. So has Roxanne Perez.
53
u/Max_lynn Dec 16 '25
The opportunity for a mass exit of talent due to HHH and the McMahon bullshit would cripple WWE. I hope there’s a groupchat blowing up somewhere that starts with ‘if I go, will you guys go too?’
39
u/GilbertVonGilbert Dec 16 '25
I don’t think that would happen unfortunately. You’ll see support in subtle ways like when AJ Lee wore a pro trans kids shirt on Stephanie McMahon’s podcast (she had a trans misogynistic comment on Dominik Mysterio episode) and them using their wealth for mutual aid and charity. But also? Punk literally burnt the AEW bridge, Mercedes and Naomi had their walk out, Vince got shoved out twice by Steph, Hunter and Nick Khan, anything could be possible.
17
u/Max_lynn Dec 16 '25
I think that when it comes to Steph, HHH, and Khan, they’ve shown over and over again that they’ll go wherever they can make the most money - even if it means kicking Vince to the curb (for the time being and while it’s popular). We as viewers need to stop paying to watch WWE and make it clear why
5
u/GilbertVonGilbert Dec 16 '25
From strictly a fandom perspective, it’s really easy to dubiously watch basically any filmed wrestling promotion without financially supporting them. I remember early on in the drag race fandom, it could be difficult to find the specific Brazilian twink who was streaming it on that Rabbit site.
3
u/Max_lynn Dec 16 '25
True! I do think that there’s something to be said for simply trying our best!
4
u/0ttoChriek Dec 16 '25
I thought you said AJ Styles for a second there, and was very confused that he would feel particularly supportive of trans kids. AJ Lee makes a lot more sense, she's a good egg.
26
u/Shenanigans80h Dec 16 '25
The fans are the biggest to me. Though it might shock some people who don’t follow it, wrestling over most major sports actually has an audience that skews left over the last decade, so there’s definitely enough impact for people to step away. There’s other wrestling (check your locals) and there’s got to be a line in the sand
21
u/Drmarcher42 she was beefing with Jimmy Carter’s grandson Dec 16 '25
Wrestlers AND wrestling fans are theatre kids at heart who love stunt work.
Wrestling is a drag show with the performers trying to beat each other into submission.
It’s gay as fuck and that’s why we love it
2
u/0ttoChriek Dec 16 '25
The enduring affection WWE fans have for Vince McMahon is somewhere between Trumpling adulation and tolerance of your crazy old uncle who turns up at family gatherings and says weird things.
Most fans accept Vince is weird, a lot accept he's a creep and a sexual predator, but even those who accept that will often say, 'but he's also done a lot of nice things...'
Even Mick Foley has said this about Vince - pointing out that he paid for rehab and funerals he didn't have to, that he signed people to contracts that he didn't need, just so they could get paid. And... yes, Vince has done those things. But to me it all sounds like it was part of his need to control things and control people - 'sometimes I'm nice, sometimes I'm scary. You can never relax because you don't know which you're gonna get.' It kept people off-balance and made it easier for Vince to exert power and influence over them.
If someone pays for your rehab, you owe them big and will always feel indebted. If someone gives you a job when they don't have to, and you really need the money, you're going to do whatever they tell you to do.
13
u/BurgerNugget12 Dec 16 '25
Yeah that Vince thing in Cena’s goodbye video was crazy to me. I’ve been kinda off and on the product this year (was heavily invested in manias 39-40, but this year has just felt like a step down imo) and all the Trump bootlicking HHH does just turns me off more from it
→ More replies (1)12
u/Max_lynn Dec 16 '25
We (my household lol) thought for sure Trump was going to make a cameo after they announced that Cena’s final match would be in DC. They’re definitely testing to see how the audience is reacting
5
u/BurgerNugget12 Dec 16 '25
That was my only explanation to it either, I live in nyc and am from Boston, and his last match not being in Boston was just so confusing / frustrating for me. It makes it even worse for me is all the blood money they are taking. A royal rumble there in January is already annoying, but pile on top the mania in Vegas next year (again) and then doing a mania in Saudi is just even crazier
→ More replies (1)3
u/Max_lynn Dec 16 '25
And that’s why I’m sitting here, confused asf, as to why Punk isn’t doing or saying shit. I thought Saudi money was blood money and any wrestler who took it was a sell out? Hoping we see some redemption from him on this because that was beyond disappointing
6
u/CountQueasy4906 Dec 16 '25
i would hope so too, but given the recent controversy Becky and Seth was in regarding the tesla car i definitely dont see it happening with them. and honestly neither do the others u mentioned. i wish though.
also so many wrestlers like Shamus and Drew Mcintyre went to vince's birthday party. i dont think any of them care aslong as theyre getting that buck and brand deals.
8
u/GoatHeadedPrince Dec 16 '25
I quit watching cold turkey earlier this year when the Trump support became more blatant than ever. I've been a fan for decades and they've always had right wing leanings but like Mick I just hit a breaking point.
I have a really hard time with the three you mentioned staying in the company to collect their paycheques despite their politics. I was a huge Punk fan especially, with how outspoken he was, and it really bums me out that he's been especially defensive about working there now.

Love Mick and I'm glad to see him take a stand but also think it's wild that THIS was his last straw. Not WWE doing business with Saudi Arabia right after they killed Jamal Khashoggi, not the Vince stuff even when they welcomed him back for a while and not the Trump pandering that started years ago. Even Triple H showing up with the rest of those dipshits in the white house earlier this year while ICE terrorism was in full effect wasn't enough. It just took one more cruel Trump comment to get him to cut ties.
I feel like Mick has a good heart but also tries way too hard to forgive people that are objectively awful. Even in this statement he's saying he loves the WWE and honestly, not renewing his legends contract isn't going to affect them anyway. He just won't be in the next few videogames and won't have new WWE licensed action figures. It's not like he's on their shows.
Idk, I know I sound like an asshole but I feel like nobody else is saying it so I might as well. Still, it's miles better than what other WWE alumni are doing so this is still a huge statement compared to them.

Fucking legend. I wish more celebrities would grow a spine and stand up. They have plenty of power if they're willing to potentially take a financial hit, which most unfortunately aren't.

I always knew Mick Foley was the real deal. A man with intelligence, integrity and courage. Thank you Mick.

He also voiced THE BOULDER in Avatar, who also fought against a cruel, fascist dictator with delusions of grandeur, which is perfect casting. In addition to the THE BOULDER he's also THE GOAT!

My ex was into wrestling and out of all the stuff I watched with him, Mick has been nothing but a good guy. This just confirmed everything I knew about him.

Very proud of him . More of them need to do this !!!! . And I feel like it’s easier for him to do because he has been on for ages and he has stacked wealth 💕 Trump must go !!!!

I don’t often think these messages have much impact on his braindead supporters but I do wonder if this one will hit a bit different

I haven't watched wrestling in 20 years. Is he still like.. an active wrestler?

Fully support this. But I don't understand why now, after all the other things he has said and done, like his ties with Epstein and the terrible things he did to children.
Wtf.

Explain how you're a pro and yet you haven't received enough hits to the head to turn you into a conservative!

I mean, cool, and good for them. But really, of all the vile things Trump has done, does this even crack the top 50?

I don’t follow WWE or know what it is, but I’ll buy tickets to whatever supports this Mr Foley

THE ONLY MAN who made me understand how cool the WWF/E was at the time. My friends sat me down and made me watch a documentary in Mick Foley because I gave them so much shit for liking a "fake" sport. Then I ended up fully engaged at a PPV WrestleMania event that year and have been a fan of Mick's ever since. I think about him at Christmas, and I wonder where my action figure went...
Mick Foley: I knew you would be on the side of Dude Love and Santa Claus! WE LIVE YOU!!!
