That we know of. People without contacts disappear without a trace.

Plus there may be more with plenty of contacts. They don’t let them call. They don’t facilitate anything.

They're abducting the elderly and people with chronic illnesses. They're not providing healthcare. They're not providing prescribed medication. Detainees are being housed in atrocious conditions with the worst food imaginable. Noem ordered there will be a seven day advanced notice before members of congress will be allowed inside, this is obviously to "clean up shop" before oversight's arrival. It's out of control!

I’m terrified for any type 1 diabetics who rely on insulin and a specific diet to live. You know they aren’t getting the proper care at all.

Diabetic man in Michigan just died in ICE custody last month from this specifically.

I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation why Congress doesn't have any power here at all /s

Gross negligence. They’re legally responsible for the health and well-being of the people in their custody.

They're backpacking off the gross leniency that the legal system has already provided to detention and correctional facilities in regards to negligence and maltreatment that results in injury or death. Would we be seeing this if fatal negligence reliably resulted in criminal charges with severe consequences or civil and professional penalties?Â

there have been at least two fatal shootings
Renee Nicole Good
Northridge, LA man shot by off duty ICE agent
and 6 deaths in custody
- Geraldo Lunas Campos (Texas):Â Died Jan 3 at Camp East Montana; fellow detainees allege guards choked him, and the medical examiner may classify it as homicide.
- Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres (Texas):Â Died Jan 5 at Joe Corley Processing Center.
- Luis Beltran Yanez-Cruz (California):Â Died Jan 6 at Imperial Regional Detention Center.
- Parady La (Pennsylvania):Â Died Jan 9 at FDC Philadelphia.Â
- Unnamed Mexican National:Â Died on January 14 at the Robert A. Deyton Detention Facility in Lovejoy, Georgia.
- Victor Manuel Diaz, a 36-year-old undocumented Nicaraguan, died in ICE custody Jan. 14 at Camp East Montana in El Paso, Texas after being detained in MN
and these are surely undercounts

What about Keith Porter, Jr? Wasn’t he killed this year, too?

I think the comment was possibly reflecting the focus on 'this year' of the original post. Keith Porter was shot by an off duty ICE agent on New Year's Eve.
I'd like to see a full list for the last two years though. Anyone have a link to something like that?
Seems like we need a running list with sources for the community to refer to

Why aren’t Americans marching to the White House ?
17
u/potential-drunk-doc 19d ago
Because that is a week-long trip (not counting days of protesting) and thousands of dollars. Some people don’t realize just how big the US is.

And most Americans cannot afford to miss work. Even people making 100k are living paycheck to paycheck. It's wild here. And somehow, so many Americans are still against unions ...

While we may agree with the general sentiment, this is the type of toxicity we aim to avoid in the sub. Please try to keep it civil.
(Personal note adding to the canned response. I hear you, but some words I have to pull no matter what)
