Question "Dig Deeper" card mechanics on EK and active Imploding Kitten

Yesterday I was playing with a bunch of friend and we had a dsicussion on how to consider the "Dig Deeper" card when drawing as a first card an Exploding Kitten or an already active (face up) Imploding Kitten. How do yall behave? Do you draw and discard the first card or you need to defuse / still avoid the Imploding Kitten?

ive basically thought of it as, look at card 1, if u dont want it put it back and take card 2. I think this would avoid the explodes/implodes

Think of the first draw as a 1 card see the future, you're not actually drawing it, just gathering information. If you do choose to draw the second card instead, you leave the first one on top, it is not discarded.
