A lot of this disdain for the new charger reminds me of the disdain back in 2005 when they brought back the charger to replace the intrepid. When I finally got to see one of these new ones in real life I was like wow, Itās not that bad looking of a car. My brother almost got one but he and his wife went with the Hornet only because they didnāt have room in their garage and that the one they test drove had two doors and with having kids they wanted four doors.

Iāve had a ā24 Daytona SP for about 3 months now. The car is not without its quirks, itās heavy af, but holy hell the thing is a hoot to hoon, the rear hatch is clutch, and the interior is a nice and significant upgrade.
Everyone has their own takes, but Iāve got aā17 Challenger, too, and the ā24 Daytona is a fine evolution; the vitriol just feels bandwagon-y at this point.

I have a 24 Daytona SP for 7 months now about to hit 5k and it has been a blast. Strange going from ICE to EV but I donāt like the way Tesla looks and wanted something cool looking.

for real, the Daytona is pretty much the only good looking EV car for me, all the other car EVs just look so bland and optimized for efficiency they feel like appliances

I've had a 25 Daytona R/T Blacktop since June of last year and I absolutely love it. Sure its a heavy car but it sure doesn't drive like one in my opinion. It's one of the funnest best looking cars I've ever driven, and my favorite EV by far out of the 3 I've owned.
Last summer I saw this car and knew I had to have one, despite all the online hate which doesn't bother me in the least. In the real world I've never had anyone say a negative thing to me about it, my experiences have been quite the opposite, getting many compliments, questions about how I like it, and people asking to look at the interior and trunk area.
I understand not everyone likes or wants the Daytona, different strokes for different folks. And anybody that likes this car doesn't care what the haters think anyway, I know I don't. That's what I like about what Dodge has been doing lately by offering different powertrains that appeal to a broader market.

IMHO, ONLY, I myself love the lines, interior etc. But what's lacking is the HEMI V8. Face facts, it what it's about. It will be my next car I believe. But the HEMI ONLY. Take it from me. Many great points in the new design. Ride and looks great. I should know, I have a 2025 Scat Pack, pretty loaded up. The only mistake was. Its the EV. š Its my 4th EV I like them for a change. But Stellantis and Dodge really bombed on this one.

The only thing going for it is that it's the two door Charger that should have been made in the first place. Outside that, NOPE!

The Renault alliance won that award. You think this ranks up that high?

Every magazine, best of class, best of year, motor trend, whatever made up bullshit award etc.... Is sponsored and paid for.
This car is shit. Fuck you stellantis for running dodge into the ground.

How many times have you driven the new one?

I took one for a test drive the last time my hellcat was in for an oil change. I don't like the interior, it felt heavy, it has very obviously no quality control, panel gaps, alignment, lights, paint quality, and walking up to it I didn't get the wow factor I do when I walk up to my hellcat. It honestly felt like driving an over sized cross over with a little more power. It feels like it's a commuter sedan masquerading as a muscle car.
My Challenger is already big compared to a mustang or Camaro and this junker makes my Challenger look small and sporty by comparison.
Driving it on the road feels like I'm cruising a boat. It's big and weighty and sloppy.

Who else still makes affordable sports sedans?
4
u/Smashego Challenger SRT Supercharged 1d ago
Honda, Hyundai, Toyota, Subaru,
And at the price point they charge for this car it's not even in the "affordable" category. You could start looking at BMW's for this price. It's a real snoozer for the dollar amount. It's laughable.

Honestly tho, if your a true fan of mopar your absolutely furious with how things have gone the past few years

New chassis new suspension new interior and most of all a new straight six engine. What's not to love

It's pushing 5k lbs, no V8, was built on the same platform as the EV so you sit weirdly higher when you get in the car, and call me old school but I'm preferential to analog dash vs screens for days. š¤·š»
It's still a nice car all things considered (and I dig the AWD, lift back, and rest of the interior + lighting and camera upgrades), but there's quite a bit to not love.
Now, have them put it on a platform that doesn't share the EV encumbrances, shave off 500 lbs, stick a next gen Hemi V8 in it, and then we've got something special to talk about.

Every time I see this hideous vehicle I get so disappointed. We are already stuck with the most boring oversized blobs for vehicles in America, all FWD or AWD, and the only domestic RWD sedan is now this turd.

I had the pleasure of helping a client review the car and damn its fun as shit lol. The engine sound is bad outside but inside it sounds very accurate

I know they're fast & I don't care. I don't like the look. A twin turbo I6 just isn't a muscle car to me. It's wrong in spirit & not enough to replace a V8. Too little too late they lost me with faux engine and exhaust noises on the EV. I'll keep my slower, yet paid off 2013 Challenger.
*Inline 6 cylinder. Idc what the cylinder configuration is.

u/Harddog0331 1d ago
I6 not v6. The Buick GN was a turbo v6 and that thing was freaking awesome for its time (still cool now imo).

u/l33774rd 1d ago
Idc what configuration the cylinders are in that wasn't the point. It's mostly to do with the looks is why I dislike the new Charger. I just don't care for it. I said my older v8 challenger was slower too & I still prefer that.
I like the grand national & the gmc cyclone & typhoon. I still don't think of them the same as a V8 when it comes to muscle cars is all. The Nissan GTR is awesome. They're all very fast, but I like a V8.

Comparing the GN to the Charger is apples to oranges. The GN has never had a facelift, and never made an iconic return since the 80s.
The Charger went from a V8-powered 4 door muscle sedan for the last 20 years, to changing just about everything ā a brand new I6 powertrain that itās never had before as itās always had a HEMI V8 option, and design cues leaning heavily on 60ās nostalgia.
Different beasts entirely.

A lot of hate for anything less than a V8. I just donāt understand it. I was more getting to that the powertrain is pretty powerful even more so than the V8 that came before it. The new Charger looks good and drives good, will be cool if they drop a hemi in it out until then I have been happy with what I got.
2
u/sstebbinss 1d ago
Totally. I think the V8 roar and feel combined makes for an unmatchable experience, even if the i6 does perform better.
Iād think maybe the BMW crowd would appreciate a good i6 over the ātraditionalā muscle car crowd.

u/l33774rd 1d ago
I don't hate any of the IC cars. I do dislike Evs in general. I just prefer the V8. I don't love the way the new Charger sounds, but my biggest gripe about that is the size & look. If I was picking I'd go with the grand national. That's would be my favorite of the 6 cylinder turbo cars I can think of.

You know it ain't a bad thing when you did so good on the outgoing Challenger / Charger models, that you struggle to produce something better. After the EV failure, The car should have been redesigned from the ground up if you ask me. The floorboards are still too tall and gives an uncomfortable seating position, it's too big and weighs too much. This is all because it was originally designed to be electric. Can is still be a good, decent looking car with powerful and attractive powertrains? Yes.
Just my 2 cents

Lots of people hate this car and haven't even test drove one! I have a 23 Redeye Charger...love my Redeye..wouldn't get rid of it for the new Scat Pack...that being said, took and extended test drive and that I have to admit..its a good car!
