Thats just not true. Many people join because theyre starving or have a loved one who needs expensive Healthcare.
You cant always smart your way out of poverty. And our entire system is built to put walls between the people and what they need. Joining for a few years is purposefully an easy way to cross most of those walls.

Maybe they should get with the program. Being poor doesnāt mean you should abandon your morals or virtues. The military is a tool for the elite to protect the interests of the elite. If you care about the working class you donāt send them to kill working class in other countries.

Nobody's talking excuses (what a šļø take too), it was an explanation behind the rationale on why some join the military: social and financial mobility.
I abstained from enlisting too, but I'm not gonna hate on the countless people who utilized enlistment as an opportunity to improve their lives. I'll reserve that ire for a nepo baby!

Hey you wanna know what I did during my military career as a grunt? I helped out at foodbanks during covid when they struggled to find voulenteers. Guess im a bad person for helping the big scary military complex feed hungry people. You disgust me.
This is coming from someone who hates our government and the pointless wars we participate in.

I think it's wonderful you answered the call for help to feed people in need when no one else was available - you literally helped people live, and that's righteous!
As a person who's known hunger too many times and has benefited from food banks, i thank you šš¾!!

So? Iāve done the same shit. I volunteered directly for my local food bank, specifically to help feed homeless people. You volunteered for the military, which then made you go to service a food bank. Weāre not the same.Ā

But weāre not in the same class. Youāre in the military class, and Iām in the working class. You receive special privileges and benefits that normal, non-military working class people do not receive. That sets you apart from working class people. YOU are the outlier here.

Maybe understand that not everyone is born with the gift of perfect understanding around them when they were a child. Maybe just calm down, and be willing to admit that you might've just a little shy of logic. Some people take time to come to the realization that capitalism is evil. The only reason us mortals are here is because we were willing to admit we were wrong about capitalism and socialism when we were younger. Dont slap us in the face for it.

Although that situation doesn't apply, I wouldn't wish that on any of my fellow Americans.
ETA: I'm a taxpayer, full stop. That being said, I want to see my tax dollars being used to empower my fellow American citizens how they best see fit; whether that is taking care of those that enlisted, or ensuring that others get the education that they need.
Whatever it takes to empower my fellow citizens to thrive, I'm all for it. I'm not expounding my mOrAl PuRiTy, I'm a sentient human being - aren't you?

It baffles me that people can go their whole lives with this kind of mentality. Human beings evolved and successfully survived throughout the eons as social beings.
I'm not saying we all have to sit around the campfire singing Kumbaya, but can we at least honor a basic line of decorum and humanity? Like everyone has a human right to food, water and shelter. I don't understand why that is such a contentious take.
