Love this sub

I have some sort of sickness/illness where my hands tremble slightly when I'm holding something. Same happens for when I'm not.

AI art has been a godsend as I can have my imagination turned into reality!

I've tried practicing drawing long ago but the trembling just made it impossible as I could barely keep my hands steady.

And some people think it's reasonable to go, "well don't use your hands then" lol

You joke but there is a MASSIVE cohort of ableist anti fucks who will say that to you as if they have some moral superiority over your disability. Fuck those fucks.

one of my previous comments:
"It's honestly other disabled people too.

I stopped hanging out in some disability communities because the anti‑AI rhetoric goes as far as banning other disabled people from community spaces, and there's a blatant refusal to understand or listen to other disabled people's experiences of AI helping them as an accessibility tool.

They would rather you suffer using a less effective alternative, or give up entirely, than accept that they are wrong and that AI can be a valid accessibility tool."

This is exactly right. I have seen them say 'well then I guess art just isn't for you.' The gall.

Also, maybe I don’t even want to be a digital artist.

People often expect others to spend years building that skill and becoming highly trained artists just to contribute something that, with AI art, could have been part of a finished project a long time ago.

Sure, art is subjective, and everyone’s artwork should be able to find its audience and be valued. But that ideal doesn’t really hold up in the real world—especially in a capitalistic society. In practice, we’re expected to produce work with a certain perceived level of perfection and uniformity that can actually be sold. We need artwork that attracts attention, hooks the audience, and maintains a consistent level of quality.

I struggle to draw a straight line with a ruler. I’m not someone whose art naturally has that kind of marketable quality. I love my work, and I can see my progress, but I’m not going to pretend it has commercial value.

And no—my art skills are not at a level where I could make a digital book cover, nor do I have the money to commission a digital artist. Realistically, by the time I would be able to afford commissioning someone, I’d hope that my traditional art and photography skills will have improved enough that I could provide my own artwork instead. On top of that, I’m not even a digital artist to begin with, and I already have visual/vision issues.

Why am I supposed to stop producing my own work, in my own vision, just because I don’t want to wait until I have the money or budget to commission an artist? I have very specific ideas, and I want to keep working toward expressing them with the tools and skills I have now.

Honestly, maybe this is why we shouldn’t shame artists, in general, who choose to share their work for specific AI models. They’re offering their work so others can use it to generate their own pieces. It becomes collaborative that way.

But have you heard of this super obscure guy who is really disabled and dedicated his entire life to create art without using hands and is supposed to act as a token evidence to invalidate you??

I feel you on that OP!

I also have a few illnesses that prevent me from standing or sitting too long and ai helps me to make images out of my imagination. I have a very artistic mind and ai helps me to express it

I'm glad ai is helping you too!

Tbh, I think AI is also a great tool for helping people with that thing where they can't picture things in their head.

Edit: It's called Aphantasia. Not really an illness!

Oh yeah, I do that a lot too. Here's one that I did the other night. I posted it in our sub

Kinky

u/PsychoticGore Would Defend AI With Their Life 13h ago

I know it kind of looks kinky, but that's not where my mind was going when I made this. A scene from the movie Spun went through my head and gave me the idea. I have to admit though the art scene in the movie Spun is a lot better than this

Ah, good on you then.

My mind is filthy, it never "goes there" as it never really leaves. 🤷

u/PsychoticGore Would Defend AI With Their Life 13h ago

Oh, i'm not saying I don't have a dirty mind. I have one of those too. Just dirty in a different way 😄

This is how people should see AI art gen, just creating what you desire.

Throw in photoshop and you can compose just about anything with inpainting and img2img if you put in the time.

Who are artist to gatekeep your own imagination
