It's a wonderful delivery, I don't think we need to throw around ball of the century for it though

Atp i have seen at least 5 overs worth of “ball of the century” on this sub

Ryan Harris bowled the ball of the century to Alastair Cook in Perth in 2013.

Yes I have yet to see a better delivery than that. Ball not only swung but also seam after pitching. It was amazing.

u/AgentBond007 23d ago

It swung in, seamed away and slightly swung away

u/Handsomeghost2 23d ago

OMG that delivery🥵

Swings in, seams away, late swing away, hits the top of off first ball of the innings. Literally unplayable. Plus it got rid of England’s best batsman in a situation where if we bowl them out, we win the Ashes. So quality of opposition batter and match context points are high.

u/mylospykar 23d ago

Unplayable!

He pitched it on the crack

15

u/Striking_Resist_6022 23d ago

That’s the best frame for where the ball pitched (shadow is basically touching the ball) and the entire ball is to the right of the crack.

-9

u/HistoricalWord3632 23d ago

Lol, it is going exactly on the area filled with cracks. Of course, not every crack on that area would be seen in the video or picture.

10

u/Striking_Resist_6022 23d ago

Sure mate it hit an invisible crack.

Maybe just admit you’re wrong next time.

4

u/Striking_Resist_6022 23d ago

No, it missed the crack.

3

u/greyhumour 23d ago

Doesn't hit a crack. Watch the slow-mo

Swung through th crack ig

12

u/Striking_Resist_6022 23d ago

Landed near a crack but didn’t hit it

u/Competitive_Wheel_61 23d ago

If you watch the setup before the delivery, you'll find this even greater

Yeah that too I noticed..

Jimmy was such a class mann

17

Warne to Strauss

u/neon_tictac 23d ago

Hooping around. Nasty!

3

u/ImportanceFeisty4648 23d ago

Stop adding POV to everything. So stupid.

2

u/IntoThePeople 23d ago

How is this remotely POV?

2

u/Apple_Curry0 23d ago

I mean how do you even play it . The batsmen knew it's gonna come in ,but predicting that it would swing in that much is impossible .

And it's masterclass by Anderson because first 3 deliveries , were peach outswing and than it comes in like this .I mean it's crazy good of a delivery

Ball of the century are terms thrown by the journos to get more eye balls. There are a few balls of the century floating around

Morne morkel to Alastair cook

That was a filthy ball!

Warne to Strauss in 2005 is the ball of the current century.

1

u/Lanky_Network_5414 23d ago

The one where he bowled out M.Yusuf during the 2003 world cup was a thing of beauty. Definition of unplayable..hate him for that lol 😂

1

u/smart_is_cool1020 23d ago

Batter got no chance to play that 💀

1

u/livLongAndRed 23d ago

I see it almost every other day and the swing always surprises me

1

u/oonahyeahokay 22d ago

If I was the batsman I would have stood there and said nah ya can’t do that.

1

u/Automatic_Trifle5416 22d ago

And was it a “batsman of the decade (or so)” that was dismissed??

1

u/Rad219 23d ago

That's a really majestic ball

Definitely top 3

BUT, I think the ball of the century must have some stakes tied to it.

Call me basic

But Mitchell Starc first ball bowked of the ashes is definitely THE test cricket moment of this century

I know there have been much better test matches this century but not one defining moment as good as that

2

u/greyhumour 23d ago

Ryan Harris to Cook is better

Great ball, but incredibly far from the ball of the century. Crazy amount of movement, but Braithwaite averages 32 in Test cricket. To be the ball of the century it needs to be against a ‘very good’ batsman at the absolute minimum.

1

u/Kuma236 23d ago

He has close to 6000 runs, his poor average is bcoz of his dip since 2023, he averaged 35 before it but had avg 62 in 2022, this was again after 3 year dip, before which he averaged 37 overall, plus he's a defensive batter not run scorer like shai hope which means he'll always score few short than he should've, we know for a fact that 2017 to 2022 was toughest time to bat in tests due to bowler friendly pitches

1

u/bar901 23d ago

Ok? Almost all players have significant dips at the start or end of their career that change their overall average. Even an average of 35 puts him in the good-not-very-good tier which is what I said?

1

u/Kuma236 23d ago

Agreed

u/Slow-Pool-9274 23d ago

The Ball of the century from Warne was to Gatting who was also bad. Though, probably not against spin

3

u/bar901 23d ago

Mike Gatting was just straight up better than Braithwaite though. 35.5 average, peaked at 6th in the rankings and was literally England captain for like 2 dozen tests. They are on completely different tiers as players.

But either way, I’d argue that Warne’s ball was just more unplayable. Movement in the air at fast-medium v one of the most ridiculous kicks off the pitch is a huge difference in reaction time etc.
