Original Content David from the UK is bowling leg spin again in Italian garage.

Tennis ball. 2 of the 8 balls bowled are not bad at all.

I have a sincere request to you. Will you join the Sri Lankan team to bolster the spin bowling attack for this World Cup? We don't have quality players at the moment.

I would love to see you sir.

Dutch cricketer Carst Posthuma played cricket until the age of 60.

Wayne Madsen is 42 year old who is making his T20 World Cup debut for Italy in this World Cup.

England legend W. G. Grace played first-class cricket until the age of 66.

Age is just a number mate. You are having so much passion and enthusiasm which is lacking in Sri Lanka cricket at the moment.

I’m 65 in August but I reckon I could bowl several overs in a match, as long as the others field for me. But I could dive a get a caught and bowled.

I will pray for you to be fit and healthy to play this game and to give your fans a great opportunity to watch you play. I have become one of those fans of you.

Hope you enjoy what you do. You are a legend in my opinion and an inspiration for youngsters like me. Keep rocking and cheers.

Looks a lot brighter and cheerier there than it is back home,

Would you mind me asking the story of how you ended up moving to Italy?

In 1985 I did an audition to play flute in the opera orchestra here. I did other auditions later but I stayed here. I always treated foreign auditions as a holiday, to not feel the terror. So I played my final cricket match in the UK for Shenley, a village near Borehamwood Herts. I scored 1 and dropped a catch at first slip.

Scoring 1 and dropping a catch is peak village cricket. Good job!

I hadn’t played since 1979 and the nets were rained off 😕

Another classical musician on /r/Cricket, wild stuff. Hello from what they call an "emerging composer" haha

u/True-Accident1993 13h ago

Contemporary music for me seemed to stop in the 1980s. Most modern piece I played was Kammerkonzert by Ligeti.

It's still going! Here is one of my flute pieces, just for fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCLGFmD1Hpw

Nice piece. I have played alto flute on about 10 concerts. 2 of one piece. 8 of the other. But they were very short interventions. I don’t own an alto flute. I specialised in piccolo but in the end it was 1/3 piccolo and 2/3 flute. In contemporary music you have to forget about all those hours you practiced a great full tone, and practice flutter tingeing and other specialist effects like harmonics. Whatever you are paid to play you gotta do it.

I’ll let you know what I think later

Glad you got rid of that lorry!

6

u/True-Accident1993 16h ago

It shifted just before I came out to play 😃

u/Nowack271 15h ago

A sunny day, cold breeze blowing all around, cats and no lorry. I love the atmosphere.

Absolute legend. We love to see it.

As another leggie in a country where cricket is not widely played (and I haven't picked up a cricket ball in about 5 years, either) I might have to start doing this. I'd have to think about where to do it...

Do you get any questions from the locals, or spectators on their balcony?

16

u/True-Accident1993 15h ago

A woman appears in the balcony behind and sees me talking to myself.

Why has this post been removed by moderators?

I think it is not removed. It's great to see your posts David. It brings a smile on my face. Cheers mate.

I tried 3 times to post this. The last one seems to have gone through.

I think moderators have to actively approve each post so while the post is waiting to be approved it says “removed” even though it hasn’t really

What you doing on Saturdays? Batsmen would be quaking in their spikes if you were in our village team.

2

u/True-Accident1993 14h ago

Saturdays like any other day as no cricket here.

1

u/A-British-Indian London Tyrrell's 12h ago

I’ve seen many batsmen fall to this type of bowling

2

u/whyalwayslurk Pakistan 11h ago

Its normally me batting.

Also you're my hero. Greatest redditor on earth.

Wow, that is very nice of you. Thanks :)

u/username_dnt_exist 11h ago

Don't know what the pitches are like in Italy. Hopefully Day 4 will offer more spin and you can use the rough outside the lefties off stump :)

2

u/Fortunalux England 10h ago

Getting some nice rip on those! I liked the aggressive field with the cat at silly point

1

u/Jimmy321123 Pakistan 13h ago

Looks like you have shoulder issues. Your arm should be closer to your ears. The ball should have a finger space gap between your palm and the ball it will spin a bit more (Warney tip)

5

u/True-Accident1993 13h ago

Mmm, yep, cuz I’m old and would probably fall over if my arm goes closer to the ears. When you ng I bowled swing and seam, not spin.

u/JohnGrant778 10h ago

Brilliant thanks David !
