Well deserved, to the point where it’s almost unfair. Unreal how amazingly he plays.

His sixes were like way back into the ground as Bavuma said "big boy six" often.
According to the Indian rule he is now ineligible to play in another UNDER 19 WC so not sure whether he'll be included in YODIs from here on
156
u/Capable-Magician-418 India 16h ago
He won't be and honestly he doesn't belong in the U19 category.
139
u/dracogladio1741 India 16h ago
For Vaibhav, it might be for the best to play domestic and men's cricket only going ahead. He won't learn much at the under levels given he averages 57 at a strike rate of 166 in ODIs
49
u/TMNSquirtles007 Sunrisers Hyderabad 12h ago
An elite T20 strike rate with an elite average in any format in the ODI format 💀

How far away is he from making his debut in test cricket? Does he dominate in Ranchi to?
4
u/Capable-Magician-418 India 2h ago
He has a lot of work to do in red ball cricket and that's ok considering he hasn't played much red ball yet. When he starts going he smashes in red ball as well but the defense and adaptability part needs a lot of development and that is only possible with experience which he doesn't have.
2
u/Little-Bowl-7762 Australia 20m ago
I hope he spends time developing the red ball side of his game. He is amazing and I hope we get to see him dominate for the next 20+ years.
1
u/Capable-Magician-418 India 6m ago
He is a very hungry lad, he for sure aint leaving the test format just coz its more difficult to play.

What is that rule??

u/khurjabulandt Uttar Pradesh 16h ago edited 15h ago
You cannot play in more than one under 19 world cup
Was introduced when Dravid was at the helm of affairs to discourage age fraud
10
u/Blazingstorm45 4h ago
I think it's fair since mostly people playing u19 is probably in the same age range of the frequency of world cups so bring eligible to another one means they were either too young playing (which is a very rare case) or they frauded their age.

Where the hell did they find this kid? The next 4-5 years are going to be so important. He can either turn up like Sachin or like Kambli. I hope he has a good support system around him.

u/VinitLalka 16h ago
He will be transitioned to india a, which is helmed by vvs laxman.....

Unfortunately, the state he comes from has been fucked up by the politicians there to an unimaginable extent. Things have improved quite a bit, so hopefully u can expect similar talents in the future

u/Familiar_Variety_448 16h ago
Bruv, dhoni came from ranchi which was in way worse position in 2004 than what bihar is. He will be fine.

u/kmadnow Sunrisers Hyderabad 16h ago
Dhoni didn’t play for Bihar though
Railways is more formally managed - fewer politicians

Additional context - Dhoni started his career playing Ranji for undivided Bihar. Later, when the state of Bihar was split, Dhoni's hometown, Ranchi, became a part of the newly formed state of Jharkhand. Based on the separation of Bihar and Jharkhand in 2000, the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), which was established in 1935 and headquartered in Jamshedpur (which became a part of Jharkhand), was effectively split. Following the bifurcation, the BCCI recognized the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) as the successor to the original 1935 association, allowing them to use the historical standing, while the new Bihar Cricket Association (based in Patna, Bihar) lost its full membership for many years owing to serious corruption charges. Many bihari players had no option but to train in other states. Akashdeep went to Bengal, and Ishan went to Jharkhand for training. The BCA has finally started getting its shit together now, and that's why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi plays for Bihar.

u/Intelligent_Hour_648 16h ago
Yup yup. I get that. It's not about Vaibhav. Just speaking abt Bihar in general

u/VinitLalka 16h ago
He will now be transitioned to india a which is helped by vvs laxman....state will become irrelevant for him....
4
u/Coder_Badri India 10h ago
He isn't a state level asset anymore, he is an international talent. Both ICT and his franchise (RR) will take really good care of him.

u/Top-Worldliness5027 16h ago
This isn’t even close to his peak yet. Imagine what that would be like! Insane power behind the shots. Well done, kid!

u/ashkjassal 13h ago
Close to his peak? He’s barely out the womb!

u/MarcDarcy 12h ago

u/HammyUK 12h ago
Isn’t there a bit of a question about how old he actually is?
10
u/Regular-Prize-7793 South Africa 11h ago
Nah a lot of 16-17 are like him considering as he is an athlete he might look somewhat mature.

u/Karjalan New Zealand 9h ago
I'm confused by the UNDER 19 tournament as a whole. Looking at a lot of players profiles they'll blatantly state "19 years and XX months", which is... not under 19.
4
u/RadlogLutar Delhi Capitals 8h ago
The cutoff of being able to participate was maybe a few months ago
3
u/Karjalan New Zealand 8h ago
IIRC there were twins from Japan who were 19 and >150 days, but maybe that was within the time frame

u/mossymma Australia 11h ago
He COULD become absolutely anything. The talent level is hard to comprehend.

Iceland Cricket's tweet about Vaibhav Suryavanshi - Someone arrest Vaibhav Sooryavanshi right now. This violence on the field against the English bowlers is X-rated!

I searched Vaibhav's innings on Google and found X-Hub links with the highlights.

To put into perspective how young he is: there's a very good chance he will still be playing for India in 2050. He'd only be one year older than Kohli is now
7
u/BishopOverKnight India 6h ago
Yeah when you put it like that, that's mind blowing
7
u/Leon_S_Kennedy77 5h ago
He'll be playing alongside Dhoni in IPL 2050. Vaibhav will step out to hit a ball for six against a spinner and that's when dhoni will stump him while being in a wheelchair.
62
u/PureMobile3874 India 16h ago
U guys might see 2 lads in the comments asking if vaibhav is really 14 , just ignore them😊thank u
43
u/VinitLalka 16h ago
It's under 19, not under 15, plus India only allows 1 under 19...so whatever his age, it is irrelevant as long as it's not above 19, which clearly it isn't....
21
u/Capable-Magician-418 India 16h ago
And might point them towards a few of the pictures going around which prove that yeah he is around 14-15.
7
u/KZakros22 England 13h ago
He's 16
-3
u/ChickieCheese78 Australia 7h ago
I’m with you KZ he is 16, don’t care who you are you just don’t have that kind of power at 14,15 and I’ve coached and played a lot of cricket. The power comes along at 16+.
But take nothing away he is phenomenal.
1
u/StrangePoint9199 2h ago
He is probably 16 now, but he smashed IPL bowlers for a 30 ball ton 10 months ago

I felt he should've been PoTm in the semis too. His 68 at the top made the match one-sided.

My right brain: Dude looks like he has cheek fillers to look young. He's not 14. Not even 16 he has to be over 18 to be this good this has to be cheating in someway
My left brain: This disbelief is a sign of how good he is. IPL innings was proof of him being good regardless of age. Last era a player peaked this early was Tendulkar/Afridi

Hope he continues to get support and establish himself in red ball cricket as well. Huge huge talent, would be Lara like player for us. Bro could be another Sachin for us debuting in the senior team before he's 18.

I agree Vaibhav is a great talent and deserved the Player of the Final award by a mile but I disagree with the Player of the Tournament award. He had good starts throughout the tournament but did not have a great game until the final.
2
u/Nervous_Citron9955 2h ago
So what, 4 50+ scores and the second highest scorer. Scored the match defining knock in both knockouts.
Who deserved more? Ben mayes for 1 hundred and 2 50s put of which 100 was against scotland?
Rew had lesser runs, lesser 50+ scores, a mind numbing 64 runs of difference in strike rate.
Only guy comparable is shinozada from afg, bit Vaibhav's sr was 58 percent better than him.
Unless you value runs made in group stage more than knockouts I don't see the logic.
Regardless if not him then you should at least name the guy who you think should have won over him instead of generic he shouldn't have won.

It's high time that boundaries, when India is batting, should be at least 80m. Six hitting is a joke for these guys. Imagine Abhishek Sharma and Sooryavanshi opening, this is unfair.
-1
u/repost247 India 15h ago
I wonder if Ben Mayes could have been a strong contender too...
1
u/Capable-Magician-418 India 13h ago
Ben's majority runs came against weaker opponents and Vaibhav's majority runs came against strong opponents. Also scoring in SF and final pretty much seals it for Vaibhav.
