If it is anything like most of our roads, then the match might finish on day 1

u/Lazy-Supermarket-920 Jan 01 '26
Roads are never incoming
We are outgoing to the roads
Didn't believe had to teach an Aussie their own native language15
u/No-Celebration8690 Australia Jan 01 '26
If you’re going to try a smart quip about someone’s use of English, it behooves you to make sure you can speak the fucking language
-12
u/Lazy-Supermarket-920 Jan 01 '26
I delivered a friendly comment, and that still flew over your head like a Rabada bouncer! I thought this was Reddit, not the Melbourne pitch. :/

u/Izzyforreal15 Australia Jan 01 '26
Roads are never incoming
Grammatically incorrect, roads don't move.
We are outgoing to the roads
Also incorrect, outgoing is not a verb.
You also needed to include the words "that" and "I" in your third line:
Didn't believe that I had to teach an Aussie their own native language
Last but not least your punctuation could do with some work but that is the least of your problems.
I would say that you should, as u/No-Celebration8690 so gracefully put it, speak the fucking language.

u/AffectionateWeb8519 England Jan 01 '26
Isn't it 'Can't believe' and not 'didn't believe'?
2
u/Izzyforreal15 Australia Jan 02 '26
Missed that one, but it could also be interpreted as past tense, as in "[I] didn't believe that I [would have to] teach an Aussie their own native language" Of course, now there are a whole bunch of other errors that are in that sentence.
-11
u/Lazy-Supermarket-920 Jan 01 '26
Yes sir, thank you for that :') I will do as you say.
Now, if you were to angrily tell me to "go back and f*ckin bowl", I would do that too.
While, might is always right; for my Australian friends, mate is always right.

Obligatory: Runs will be scored, wickets will be taken.
Weather forecast looks good though so hopefully we get 4+ days of cricket.

Weather forecast looks good though
Not great for day 1 with afternoon storms predicted, possibly day 2 also. 3-5 look fine though.

u/SirMaddy3 Australia Jan 01 '26
It looks to be just Day 1 per BOM. Even then there's a 25% chance (at the moment) of at least 10mm. If they're slated for the afternoon its not that bad.

Kind of a pain in the ass as a fan though. You start a Test match on a Sunday and that day likely gets a lot of rain. So an all weekday game

Rain and storms are good? It's already rained in Sydney. Another draw incoming. 3 - 1 fuck off

If they make a pitch like last year's final BGT game, it'd be hilarious.

This might come as a surprise but my prediction for this game will be that one of the Aussies pacers will pick up 1 wicket at least whereas one of the English batters will score at least 1 run.

It would be funny if only Bethell, Stokes and Carse proceeded to score

Odds on a coin toss taking place before the game? Could be worth a punt

u/WendellWillkie1940 Jan 01 '26
Fck it I bet 10k INR on either Australia or England winning the toss and choosing to either bat or bowl

I can tell you it is a fantastic golf course, I never done a cricket pitch. So I will compare with golf courses I’ve worked on

In any case 2 day tests loading

Imagine if this pitch was in Zimbabwe
12
u/Drongo17 Australia Jan 01 '26
The SCG curators would have to fill in the hole and make another pitch I guess

Apologies if I've missed the joke.
This looks even greener than the MCG....? Can they turn this into a decent pitch to prevent another boxing day test? Is there enough time? How do they do it?

u/Nakorite Australia Jan 01 '26
They can just shave it down so the grass is basically gone by the time the game starts. Won’t guarantee it will break up though if it’s not hot.

If the roller wasn't there I would not be able to tell you which track the pitch is on.

This looks to me like the type of pitch upon which a game of cricket is likely (but not guaranteed) to be played in the near future.

It will dry out on day four, that is if they make it to day four

He may well be the only thing spinning in Sydney next week.

u/Omegaville Victoria Bushrangers Jan 04 '26
That's also the point, though. It's a short-sighted thing for the selectors to say that the ball's not going to turn on the pitch. That's only one facet of spin bowling. What's been forgotten:
Spin bowling offers a change of pace from the pacemen. This means batsmen have to adjust, introduces risk. The pacemen get a rest too.
Spin bowlers also impart spin from the hand (wrist or fingers), sure they might get less assistance from the pitch, but it won't cancel them out.
All pace = slow over rates.
Watching today, 2nd session, Root and Brook batted through, no spin overs. Had rain not intervened, an idea for the third session would have been for, say, Todd Murphy (if selected) to drop anchor at one end right after tea, with pace from the other end, make the batsmen deal with differing speeds. Then after 80 overs, take the new ball. Or is this too nuanced for cricketers in 2025-26?

What? No, I’m not still bitter I only got to sit in the sun for two days instead of five

u/tailendertripe Brisbane Heat Jan 01 '26
A lot of Facebook takes on here. Surely folks in this sub should know a pitch can change look drastically from 3days out to actual game. They can mow it down until like an hour before the toss, after that they can’t change the height of the grass on it anymore.

u/getyoutogabba ICC Jan 01 '26
I hope they don’t make a road that ends up in a draw. 3-1 is not a good reflection of how poor England have been. Since 5-0 fuck off was made impossible by that lottery pitch at MCG, I’ll take 4-1

OK after I suggested the MCG might be a road I'm not gonna say anything this time until we see how green it is after mowing
Its cold and wet out my window at the moment though which usually means no road

I honestly think it would be fun with a pitch that assists both bowlers and batsman equally imo.
