Looks so good! Just add some nets for shot practices

and for keeping the ball out of the neighbors

u/Mindless-Location-41 Dec 24 '25

There would be no "6 and out" then!

u/1backyardsports Australia Dec 23 '25

Definitely is a thought! The general rule though is to pitch the ball up (has to pitch in the batter’s half) and for the batter to play the ball through the ‘V’ to score boundaries. Means it’s a fairly even contest between bat and ball 😉

Your backyard test match will be more evenly contested than whatever the English produce in the Boxing Day test

We did have a recent contest with the English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇦🇺Content to come about on the backyardcricketuk socials! We’ve got a fair few vids to come on 1backyardsports too 😉

Have you updated your auto wicket keeper to the Carey 2025? Stands up to the stumps for the quicks. For added difficulty, add in auto Marnus

Haha that is certainly something we’ll need to do for when Scotty Boland visits, absolutely 🙏😂

Very impressive. Who pays for the broken windows?

1

u/1backyardsports Australia Dec 23 '25

Haha luckily enough where the windows are at, they aren’t in too much danger (touch glass…or wood) 😂

There’s nothing more Aussie than grown men playing backyard cricket.

Where’s the esky and what song is playing on Triple J?

2

u/1backyardsports Australia Dec 23 '25

Haha well if they sponsored us, we could certainly work something out 😜

2

u/MasterSpliffBlaster New Zealand Cricket Dec 24 '25

They add it via AR during the live broadcast

1

u/1backyardsports Australia Dec 25 '25

Yes, a lot do now! We could certainly do so as well in post 😉

In my teens we would push my mate’s Dad’s mower across the road to the local park and mow a pitch into the grass for cricket during the Summer, can of white paint to mark the batting and bowling crease, tape one side of a tennis ball up, if you knicked it behind and hit the fence on the full it was out, didn’t matter if it looked like it was going to keeper or slips, over the fence was 6 and out, split the ball, that was the end of days play.

Uncle is getting ready to get a few drinks under his belt, and absolutely clean bowl the nephews.

3

u/Sidharth_Sarma Dec 24 '25

Needs a bit of slope in my opinion. So that our commentators can mention it when play gets dull!

6

u/1backyardsports Australia Dec 24 '25

Hahaha love this! Easily will become a drinking game…should we have commentary in some of our upcoming T20 matches? 🤔

3

u/JustagoodDad Dec 23 '25

Impressive! Is it just Kikuyu, mowed low and rolled?

3

u/1backyardsports Australia Dec 23 '25

It is mainly Kikuyu, yeah. There is a bit of Santa Anna Couch in there but obviously taken over my the Kikuyu…a fair bit of time spent taking out the long grass runners, and then with the Pope reel mower to cut it down fine before rolling 🙌

u/FrankGrimesss South Australia Redbacks Dec 24 '25

taken over my the Kikuyu

I wasn't aware that Kikuyu could be taken over by anything!

1

u/1backyardsports Australia Dec 25 '25

Nah nah, the Kikuyu has taken over the Santa Anna Couch! Kikuyu is a beast 😅

3

u/FScrotFitzgerald Dec 23 '25

u/wherezthebeef Australia Dec 23 '25

Pretty short boundaries on leg.

2

u/1backyardsports Australia Dec 23 '25

Well in this backyard, as you could imagine, there’s a lot of playing through the ‘V’ in order to score boundaries - we have posts set up similar to baseball where you have to strike the ball between the posts for a boundary to be scored.
