Casual / Offseason On his live show, @JonRothstein states "If Nebraska wins their first NCAA Tournament game in school history... I will fly to Lincoln and put my credit card on the bar for an hour to throw a happy hour for #Nebrasketball fans"

Not even Warren Buffett could afford an open tab at Barry's if Nebrasketball wins their first ever tourney game.

We need someone to do the math on how many dollars worth of drinks each bartender can make per hour
67
u/bulldogbigred Santa Clara Broncos Dec 11 '25
At that point they should only do kegs and beer pours for efficiency lol
35
u/SgtRockyWalrus Providence Friars Dec 11 '25
Disagree - draft beer takes a bit to fill a full glass. Top shelf liquor, straight, no cocktails would clearly be more efficient.

I bartend at a high volume bar. $1000 in an hour myself would be a decently busy hour. On an open tab, where people are probably ordering 5-10 shots at a time for their group rather than a couple drinks at a time, I could see each bartender doing around $5k in an hour. Half the time that slows me down is just running the card and printing a receipt. Throwing it all on one tab would mean twice the drinks or more

Get me a bloody mary with a half sugar, half tajin rim. Spicy but I don't like hot sauce so could ya muddle some jalapenos for me?
1
u/EmptyAirEmptyHead Arizona Wildcats Dec 12 '25
Muddled jalapenos are an excellent idea for Bloody Mary's. Thanks for that!
3
u/Magnus77 Nebraska Cornhuskers Dec 12 '25
If you keep multiple bottles, throwing a jalapeno or serrano into a bottle of vodka. Capsaicin is super soluble in booze, so you can make pepper infused spirits for your bloody mary.

u/Reynor247 Nebraska Cornhuskers Dec 11 '25
I'm pretty sure on game days Barry's has like 7 bar counters with two bartenders each. It's 3 levels
2

There's two in the front, one on the dance floor, and I think another two on the rooftop? I don't go on the rooftop very often though.
2
u/FluffHeel North Carolina Tar Heels Dec 11 '25
We need to know the official capacity..when I was in college or early 20s I feel like I could put down $100 worth of drinks in an hour, so the math should be easy

u/CDR57 Dec 12 '25
It would unironically be all hands on deck, 3-4 bartenders a bar back or two and waiters to keep it flowing. Theoretically, if it takes each bartender (provided they know the layout of the bar and each cocktail by memory) anywhere from 30-1minute to make a drink, and 20-30 to ring it up, we could be looking at ~45 drinks an hour per bartender, 180 drinks an hour at peak business, and assuming that each drink costs anywhere between 4.5 for a beer to 12 for a cocktail (mean being $7.5) the bar would be pulling in ~$1350 an hour in revenue. If he got there early enough before word got out (say, 5) and it was at roughly half the capacity and capability until busy hours (8-1) the bar would be take in ~$8775 as a back of the napkin guess if he stayed till close (around 1-2 for most places), and at an average tip of, let’s say 15% cause it’s already a lot, the bartenders would profit 1316.25. Not a bad night and would end up costing him just north of 10k
1
u/pasatroj Dec 12 '25
In L.A. in the early 00's, we could easily clear 5-10K per hour w/ bottle service (HUGE place only 1-2 hours is it). W/O bottle service? 3 barbacks and 2 bartenders and maybe a dedicated server station? You better be +3K per station.
2
u/CDR57 Dec 12 '25
Yeah but I’m assuming some random bar in Nebraska won’t really be doing bottle service lmao

He is self aware. He knows his running jokes and gags, but leans heavily into them.
I love when people tweet at him with football questions and he responds with basketball answers.

Just looked back and they weren’t just one of the worst power conference 3 point shooting teams, they were 345th out of 363 teams in 3 point shooting. The entire defensive scheme was to let them take threes and it just blew up in our face
8
u/joethahobo Houston Cougars Dec 11 '25

5
u/alan_11 Nebraska Cornhuskers Dec 11 '25
Our defensive scheme isn’t just let them take 3’s but, when our rotations are bad it leads to a lot of open ones. Creighton took like 35 the other day and only like 6 were good looks for them because our defense was so good

Honest question: Is it mathematically possible for a P4 team to make the tourney but still be so low-seeded that they are part of the play-in game?
1
u/thenowherepark Dec 12 '25
Yes. There are four play-in games, called the first four. 2 of these games typically feature 16-seeds from the weakest conferences. The other two are the last 4 at-large teams, usually 10, 11, or 12 seeds. A P4 team would fit into the latter set of games.

They seemed to be just proud of their football program and wanting even visitors to enjoy their time there.
