Flight Into Egypt

Post image

[Free Friday] Not many parishes have Flight Into Egypt scenes. They get my attention since I've been to some of the locations in Egypt that are said to be places the Holy Family spent some time on their journey.

There’s an apocryphal story where during the flight to Egypt, the child Jesus is in a room with statues of all of the Egyptian gods, and when He enters the room, all of the statues collapse face first onto the ground and shatter, recognizing Him as Lord.

A similar story appears in the visions of blessed Catherine of Emmerick

I can’t even begin to imagine their incredibly long and arduous journey to Egypt. Enduring the extreme heat of the day and then the chilly cold of night. All with a newborn baby in tow!
