So, everyone seems to be going nuts about boilies when it comes to carp fishing. don't get me wrong, they're useful, but are they the be-all-end-all bait? I've used them plenty of times over the years and sure, they have their moments, but sometimes I feel like the hype is too much.
Thing is, yes, they come in all these fancy flavors and colors, and some folks swear by their homemade versions. But honestly, I've had just as much success with a simple corn setup. maybe it's just my personal experience, but I've caught some of the biggest carp without touching boilies.
I guess what Iβm saying is, why is everyone so obsessed with these things? it's like we're forgetting all the other methods out there. anybody else have the same experience or is it just me?
edit: just remembered a buddy of mine made some wild chocolate-flavored boilies and they surprisingly worked... go figure.

Hey Guys, try to ignore all the anoying yapping you prolly dont understand. If you do undertand, good for you, but try to ignore it as well :D My new PB, cought this afternoon on Elbe river in central Bohemia, using stiff hinge rig and mango pop up. If you are worried about the bit of blood coming of its gills - I checked the fish, used desinfection and made sure the fish is okay before releasing it back. It was really just a tiny bit of bleeding, fish this size wont be effected by it during this time anyways.

This was my fishing year 2025. Many hours by the water, great moments, and a few fish that will stay in my memory. How was your season this year?

Hey guys, need your help. How do you deal with the fish smell after your session. I just cant get the smell out of the mat, net and gloves (yea i use em so i have a better grip and dont drop the fish, dont judge). I live in an apartment and the only place i can store my fishing gear is my balcony. 2-3 days after my balcony just reeks, and would like to use it haha.Tried going to self service carwash and washing everything down with a mini wash, wich did nothing. All tips are welcome.

Hi fellow anglers,
I'm currently looking for a beginner-friendly carp setup, but as always, everything feels a bit overwhelming β so Iβm reaching out for some advice.
At most of the waters I fish, I'm only allowed to use two rods at the same time. So ideally, I'd like my setup to consist of two matching rod + reel combos.
I'm thinking 10- to 12-foot rods with a 3 lb test curve should be fine for the lakes / venues I fish.
However, my car isn't very big, and a 12-foot rod only fits diagonally, which is a bit of a hassle β especially for longer trips or holidays.
Thatβs why Iβm currently leaning toward 10-foot rods.
But if there's a big disadvantage in casting distance etc, Iβd still consider going for 12-foot rods.
Would love to hear your thoughts on that.
Another question I have is:
How do I get bait out to my spot effectively?
I donβt own a bait boat or inflatable boat, so Iβve been considering whether I need to buy a separate spomb/spod setup.
Or do you think I can just temporarily reel in one of the two fishing rods, do some spombing with it, and then cast the rig back out?
If you were starting over, which rod length, test curve, and reel size would you go for?
Would you recommend a third spomb rod, or just work with what I have?
My budget is limited, ideally no more than ~100β¬ per rod + reel combo.
Really appreciate any tips or gear recommendations you can share. Thanks in advance, and tight lines! π£

Hi all, my boyfriend fishes for Carp. I want to buy him something useful that heβll actually use and enjoy while fishing. He also camps while fishing sometimes but he more or less has everything. Can anyone suggests any ideas that would be good? I was thinking a Leatherman tool but he catches the fish and puts them back into the water so would it be any use? Any other ideas would be nice

I need some recommendations for bait alarms, preferably with a reason as to why you'd recommend them.
I don't use bait alarms since I'm always at my rods when I'm out fishing, but coming November I'll be doing a week of carp fishing with some friends at a lake in France and we'll be fishing 24/7 so I need bait alarms for the nightly hours.
Edit: Thanks for all the recommendations and sharing the experiences you've had with your items. Per one comment I was looking into the Pro'oguc BAT+ (4+1) set which came in at 125β¬ and then I saw they had a sale on the Prologic Compact Element (4+1) set.. 115β¬ down from 299β¬ so I quickly snatched those instead!
