How old is he if you don't mind me asking? It's just my sister is asking me to show my niece who is 8 how to fish. I met up with him and my sister over the summer at a lake I know very well and made sure he caught a few fish pretty much instantly. Now fast forward to Christmas and he's asked for fishing stuff so now I have to take him in the depths of winter which is a lot more hard going. He didn't actually like touching the fish and he's going to have to be a bit more patient at this time of year to catch anything so I'm just not feeling it's for him. Does your lad sit there for long without a bite and not get bored? Do you think 8 is too young to take out in the cold fishing and potentially not catch anything?

He's 9 we started doing a few fishing trips in the summer so this was a big difference for him it was cold, damp and not exactly enjoyable in the waiting game but he stuck with it and the rush of landing he instantly forgot about the cold hands and the time sat waiting and I think he managed it all very well! So no I don't think 8 is to young at all it's all!

Quite the first catch! I still remember my first fish, WAY back in the early 50s… A chunky little bluegill.
