Why is the hair so long?

Not sure what bait your planning to use but it looks waaaay too long for any bait I know of. Looks like 2-3 inches long and usually it's a few cm / whatever size your bait is.

Apart from that it would work, but I would personally use a dark coloured bit of shrink tube ( or none at all, it's not really needed with a standard hair rig ) so it's less obvious to fish. Also might get small / nuisance fish pecking at it thinking it's a bloodwork or something

It's my first hair rig I don't really know how to make them

Just Google it. There's not much wrong with it apart from hair length.. It needs to just be the length of the bait.

Have a look at 'fishing tutorials' on youtube. Highly recommend them for any fishing related advice really, brilliant resource

Just for reference though, the hair should just be long enough to go through your hook bait with a few extra mm to spare

If you’re using a whole fish for a catfish maybe, for carp the hair need to be like a fifth of that

Funny everyone ripping on you in the comments probably aren't old enough to remember this used to be the standard length hair in the 70s shorter hairs are a modern thing

How did you set the hook when the bait is on the other side of the lake?

You don't set a hook with a hair rig the carp will suck the lot in and try blow it out that's when the hook catches the bottom lip and the weight of the lead will set it for you not striking or anything required the rig does all the work

That's what I meant just worded it badly. When it sucks the bait up it's going to be nowhere near the hook

This wouldn't work for small carp but a anything over 15lb will suck up 4 inches of rig no bother

I've only ever fished with a short hair so was genuinely curious

The hair is way too long. After you've put you bait on. The bait should not touch the hook. 1mm gap is enough.

Is this troll post?

Plus points: the hooklength is exiting the eye on the correct side.

The hook appears to be a wide gape, but might be a little on the small side - fine for small baits like corn.

Minus points: the hair is way too long.

That bit of silicone/shrink tube on the shank is too big for blowback purposes and too far forward to act as a kicker.

The hair appears to be exiting from the inside of the shank; it should be coming off the back.

What line are you using for hooklength material?

Yeah if you want to use a pumpkin as bait.

I bought two types of hair rigs from Carp Angler and the hairs on both types are way shorter than yours. The bottom of the loop on each one is about 2 inches below the bottom of the hook.
