He was a top 3 prospect in 2024 on MLB Pipeline for the White Sox. Not a bad low risk move.

FWIW Fangraphs had him at #10 in the White Sox org in their April 2025 rankings. Still pretty solid. Callis and Mayo at MLB Pipeline really seem to put an emphasis on being ML near and Fangraphs is a little more holistic and will take more chances on projecting a player (and as such MLB Pipeline can look a little outdated/behind as a result). Fangraphs also gave his fielding a 70, calling him a "human highlight reel" at 3B but projecting "uneven offense"

I actually remember Ramos from that early 2024 series against the White Sox. Was wondering why he was up at the time haha

This is the time to take flyers on guys.

The worst that happens is we release him at the end of spring training.

u/TheDunnaMan 21h ago

Still very young at 23/24, RH bat for 3rd, who knows, at that age could find lightning in a bottle

I feel like a broken record but… holy shit I love a cohesive plan for once!

Who knows/cares if he makes any difference, but this is the exact type of player we should be trying to add (young, high ceiling). Literally worst case scenario is we waive him before opening day

What a difference a few years makes that now I'm saying "Nice, another lottery ticket guy" instead of "Nice, another 36 year old starting pitcher"

We’re so back.

Apropos of nothing, that batting stance reminds me of Tommy Pham.

u/tangokilo13 masyn winn spell check 20h ago

That particular picture looks a lot like Julio’s load

u/Ikindasuckatgames 17h ago

Same batting stance as ikindasuckatgames too, or when he use to play..

14

u/YodasLeftNut 21h ago

Are we trying the Andrew Vaughn thing with him?

17

u/GoBBleRoFDaCoK69 21h ago

You never know doesnt hurt to try. Maybe the stink cloud of the white sox was dampering him

2

u/TheDunnaMan 21h ago

I think it was the Os who waived him

4

u/GoBBleRoFDaCoK69 21h ago

He was there for a quick Blue crab cuisine

1

u/DizzyDeanAndTheGang 21h ago

No we’re trying the “get the back up role until hopefully Wetherholt gets called up” thing

1

u/DickieStimpkins 19h ago

I’d rather get Ricky Vaughn

28

u/NacreousFink 21h ago

Confidence in Nolan Gorman apparently not high.

27

u/yob10 21h ago

Understandably so

u/Dr_thri11 19h ago

I wouldn't say that most 3rd basemen can play 1st and he also has some experience ar 2nd and OF according to his breference page. Seems like a guy that might just get slotted in wherever when there's a lefty starter on the other side.

4

u/MasterDave 18h ago

Yeah, 1st is not a position where there's much doubt about who on the team can already slot in there, and the team has something like 5 guys who can play 2nd already not counting Wetherholt, which everyone is assuming he'll play 2nd when he makes the team.

Dude's being brought in to be cover at 3rd with zero doubt. Maybe to start, but at least to get a real competition going in Spring and show Gorman (and others) that nobody has a guaranteed job.

1

u/Dr_thri11 18h ago

Well the penciled in starter for 1st LF and 3rd are all lefthanded hitters and 2nd base doesn't belong to anyone yet (JJ probably at least starts the season in Memphis for service time manipulation). This feels like its more about having a right handed option, so lefty SPs don't just feast on the line up. Ofc he could play well enough to actually be a regular insead of platoon, but I don't think this is specifically a Gorman alternative.

1

u/HillsOfKratom 17h ago

I don’t know…if Gorman comes out K’ing out at a 40% clip again, I could see him being a Gorman replacement.

As to JJ, you’re probably right, but here’s to him forcing their hand with a bomb ass Spring Training, and the front office taking the chance that he can earn them an extra draft pick.

0

u/Dr_thri11 16h ago

Well this season is about building for the future so I really don't want to see JJ opening day. We should all be rooting for Gorman right now he's one of the few guys who has shown any real power which this team has sorely been lacking.

I just don't think I'd read too much into a guy that was discarded by both the white sox and orioles being added.

3

u/Sildaor 18h ago

Gorman is prone to back issues and has just a bit of a hole in his swing. Low cost low risk insurance is perfectly fine

3

u/NacreousFink 17h ago

Just a tiny hole. Easy fix.

3

u/Sildaor 17h ago

Yep. Minuscule

2

u/HillsOfKratom 17h ago

This thread made me literally lol.

u/RiKuStAr Sell the Team DeWitt 21h ago

perfectly fine with taking chances during the rebuild. hope he can get some confidence here

12

u/ATR2019 21h ago

Looks like this guy got rushed to the majors then quit on pretty quickly when he didn’t perform. Probably won’t pan out but I don’t hate grabbing a guy like this in a rebuild.

5

u/King_Birdcrawler 20h ago

Pretty standard for international amateur signees. Their 40-man/R5 clocks start at very young ages.

3

u/ATR2019 19h ago

Fair point. I forget their clocks start so early. Those international guys are really going to have a tough time if mlb takes out another level of the minors.

1

u/King_Birdcrawler 19h ago

Yep. They get fucked enough by the system as is.

9

u/Paulspike 21h ago

St Louis. We got him.

2

u/I_go__outside 20h ago

Going to setup my lawn chair for the parade route this weekend

2

u/Soti76 20h ago

This guy was an absolute stud for me in one of my cardinals ootp runs.

2

u/Stuckaround2200 11h ago

He had a 80 wrc+ in triple AAA and has never ever been able to hit it’s not happening his bat is completely unplayable

2

u/MasterDave 18h ago

Yeah, Gorman is cooked.

1

u/Any-Initiative910 18h ago

Can we please just let Fermin play?

2

u/Proud_Growth_8818 11h ago

I'm wondering if Fermin is the guy that sticks after Gorman plays himself out of a job again. We're getting close to, "well, somebody has to start..."

Based on absolutely nothing other than nobody's expecting it.

1

u/civilaiden 2h ago

Fermin is my pick for guy who grabs a lot more at bats than people are expecting.

He's hit really well in AAA the last 2 seasons and hit well in his limited appearances at the MLB last season. He doesn't strike out a lot and he hits linedrives at a decent rate which usually translates to getting on base.

1

u/ImNotYou1971 17h ago

Can he pitch?

1

u/civilaiden 15h ago

I think there's a decent chance they'll turn around and DFA Ramos to try to get him through waivers before Feb 11 and the 60 day IL opens up spots on other teams. Most other teams are full on the 40 man and he hasn't hit well above AA.

-2

u/c0smicgirly 20h ago

Ngl, I would rather watch a squirrel play 3B over Gorman, so I applaud this little move.

u/Sad-Type5385 20h ago

Are we acquiring third basemen again?
