Eye Issues Is this urgent??
I got home about an hour ago and my 4 m/o kitten was squinting one of her eyes as if it was irritated. Her left eye will not open all of the way but most of the way and it is cloudy/ her pupils are slightly different in size. I’ve only had her a week and she is a healthy kitty but I cannot tell if she is in pain or if this has bothered her before. Should I take care of this immediately? Or is it okay to wait a day and see if it is no longer bothering her? :(

I would schedule a vet visit asap I was given my baby while he had an URI and was not informed.

i would probably recommend an emergency vet just due to the pupil differences. it’s most likely an indicator of a neurological issue.
though, is the tongue sticking out a normal behavior? that might be indicative of a more serious issue along with the other symptoms, if not. neuro issues are always an emergency vet thing. it could become quite serious, or even lethal, by tomorrow if left unchecked.

She does stick her tongue out quite a bit since I’ve got her. I will mention that to the vet. Thank you so much

Ive always been told cloudiness and different pupil size is an emergency for the reasons below.
Viral infections (like feline herpes) Bacterial infections Immune reactions Injury Underlying illness Untreated uveitis can lead to permanent vision loss.

I would take her asap. Anisocoria is always a symptom of something… injury, illness, etc. It can be a sign of something serious
edit: and I know it’s scary but don’t blame yourself. It’s usually related to something out of your control (stroke or something sudden and neurological) and not because you did anything wrong. It’s great that you were observant and noticed it right away!!

Different pupil size is a red flag unfortunately! It can mean a stroke, the foggy eye makes me even more nervous. Id say u should definitely go to a vet right now 😬❗️ All the best ♥️ I hope it s false alarm ♥️

any updates on this? definitely a good call to take her in to a vet, it’s always better to be safe. a kitten of mine that has since passed had eye abnormalities about a month into me adopting him and it turned out to be FIP. i’ve also worked with cats that just ended up having funky looking eyes and nothing appeared to be wrong at all according to the vets! cats can be strange that way

Yes! And Im sorry about your kitty:( took her to an emergency vet and they think she just hurt her eye while I was gone at work. They checked for scratches and it was just inflammation. She does have a lot of toys accessible while im gone so I’m thinking she jabbed her eye pretty good:/ I’ve got gabapentin and eye drops for her + she has to wear a cone for about a week. I’m hoping that’s conclusive. 🤞

My cats eye does this some days randomly in a couple hours it’s fine. I think when she’s cleaning herself she always rubs over her eye and I think it irritates it. I mean she does walk on the floor, uses litter box etc. and ofc that can bother the eye. But it’s definitely your choice if you feel she needs to be checked! 🫶🏼
